My first cat had the name Thomasina. She was a grey calico cat. She died when i was in 5th gade i think. Honestly this movie would make me cry when i was a child because i missed my kitty. We had her when she was a kitten and i think i was 4 years old. She died because we think someone left poison outside and she ate it. It really broke my heart.

I saw this movie on a Sunday night while watching "The Wonderful World of Disney". This movie, along with "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh", is the main reasons I watched The Prisoner years later.

This is such an endearing film. My favorite role that Patrick did. He was perfect for it.

I have only ever seen this film once (but I'm buying it on DVD), and it was a few years ago, when I was around 10 yrs old, it was on tv really early in the morning about 7am and it was like some strange sort of message to me from God lol (and I'm in no way religious) because a week earlier my favourite cat had died and his name was Thomas, and we'd called him that because at first we thought he was a girl and then realised he was a 'Tom cat' so .. But yeah it felt to me like God's way of telling me "he's ok" haha, sounds stupid I know but.. Yea

Elle Emme Nothing stupid about it. The shamans of traditional cultures know that God/the Universe gives us subtle signs all the time. We just need to be sensitive enough to perceive and understand the signs.

You have a keen intuition Elle and your namesake itself shines bright. Be sure to embrace the Optimal Thread Model as it is yours to command. There is a Oxygen Transport Membrane in the 'Vai' of existence and also within 'AI' or Artificial Intelligence where a mighty hand such as yours scribes the Orthographic - Transcription Module as you have done here with your thoughtful and caring message. Let the annotation Tangential Velocity be your counterpart in such matters.

6 years later Chantelle. It’s not silly. There are signs. I’ve received many. Sometimes they were so unbelievable I just knew that there is something else -- invisible - all around us. Don’t ignore a sign.

Just like Thomasina only in reverse. She was to have been Thomas only she turned to be female.
This book and movie are older than you, older than your cat, but yes, letting you see this movie could possibly have been a way of letting you see "he's in God's care". They all are. ❤💙💜
I'm not religious either but "His eye is on the sparrow" means something to me and that is what I answered when an older woman I knew online years ago (goodness, I think that must be before you were born too!) asked me do I think He watches over our cats. The old song/hymn that says, "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me."
Someone's watching over your Thomas too, somewhere. He's okay. Thank you for your post.

One of the earliest memories I have is seeing Thomasina at the window in the rain. I couldn't have been older than 5, but I was heartbroken and that scene has always stayed with me. To this day, I cannot watch sad animal movies. I'd rather have my arm slammed in a car door.

@@reginaiam4428 I’m the same way. I saw Bambi as a kid and while I was probably too young to really understand what was happening, there is no way I would ever watch Bambi as an adult.
The Thomasina movie was sad for a short while near the end, but Thomasina was brought inside, dried off, and reunited with the little girl so it had a happy ending. But yeah, I can’t watch movies where animals die. Even the animated ones. For that reason, I have never watched nor will I ever watch The Lion King.

I remember seeing this movie as a small child in the early 60's. Enjoyed it then, but had forgotten about it until I found these clips. Brought back some wonderful memories. Think I'll buy the DVD, as I have always enjoyed the clean wholesome movies such as this that Walt Disney was famous for. Also, Thomasina reminds me of a dear pet Cat I lost a few years ago, which I still miss very much.

A great family & cat film!!! We just watched our old VHS last night!

Fantastic animator & cartoonist, Ub Iwerks, was responsible for the very cool special effects. His work makes that cat heaven scene a masterpiece!
Sadly, I just discovered that Matthew Garber who plays "Geordie" died in England at age 21 from hepatitis which he contracted in India. He & Karen Dotrice (Mary) also appeared together in Disney's "Mary Poppins" & "The Gnome Mobile."

Actually there is no reason/proof to say that all orange tabbies are males. My neighbors have one and she is most definitely a she since she has had kittens. In fact to be more truthful, according to most veterinarians Tortoise cats are always female, why? because the color combinations only come from the two chromosomes that make a female a female instead of a male :) and orange is usually one of the colors...

  • @Rahthoma
    @Rahthoma 17 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Actually, Orange Tabbies are exclusively male, which means that Thomasina is suffering from some gender identity confusion!

That cat looks male to me. You can tell by the shape of the face. Isn't that why they named it Thomasina though, because they didn't know its gender? It's been awhile since I've seen this.

I want to see this, just because it has Susan Hampshire in it. Because she's the sigular most cute actress in the history of period drama.
Though, I keep thinking of Patrick McGoohan being in "The Prisoner" so it'll be a little odd watcing him in a Disney film!

  • @Bluefairy513

Not exclusively. They are rare which would explain why a VET would think a cat to be male and his daughter named the cat Thomas. I suppose he got around to making time for his daughter's pet one day and discovered the error, hence the name Thomasina. Very rare for an orange tabby to be female but not as rare as a male calico. Male calicos DO exist but are the rarest of all . I think because they die in childbirth. But don't hold me to that. LOL

80% of orange cats are male, not 100%. One of my cat's kittens many years ago was an orange female tabby. Also, one of my clients cats was an orange tabby girl. On another interesting note, if you have a litter of orange cats of mixed gender, usually, the darker orange cats will be male, the lighter orange female.
