  • Network DVD's first ever Blu-ray title is a special-features laden THE PRISONER THE COMPLETE SERIES (PG) starring Patrick McGoohan. Available to buy as a 6-disc limited edition box set now, RRP £59.99, it is the first Blu-ray version of the series anywhere in the world.
The only home entertainment edition of the series to be officially endorsed by McGoohan himself and based on the version of the standard definition DVD which won Best TV DVD at the Home Entertainment Awards in 2008, THE PRISONER THE COMPLETE SERIES BLU-RAY is thought-provoking, revelatory and just plain cool. McGoohan's iconic series is as fresh and dynamic now as it was when first unleashed upon an unsuspecting world in 1967. Containing all seventeen episodes the wealth of special features include:
•Dont Knock Yourself Out a feature-length documentary which is the most comprehensive look at the production of The Prisoner, told by those involved in its creation
•Restored original edit of Arrival with an optional music-only soundtrack featuring Wilfred Josephs complete and abandoned score
•Production Crew audio commentaries on seven episodes
    •Trailers for all episodes
•Archive textless material, including the title sequence with clean themes by Ron Grainer, Wilfred Josephs and Robert Farnon
    •Commercial Break Bumpers
•Behind-the-Scenes footage including much previously unseen
    •Script and Production Documentation PDFs
    •Image Galleries with Music Suites
•Exclusive book on the making of the series by TV historian Andrew Pixley
•5.1 sound mixes on all episodes
    PLUS MUCH MORE!
With its distinctive theme tune by Ron Grainer, special guest appearances from the cream of British stage and screen including Leo McKern, George Baker, Peter Bowles, Donald Sinden, and Anton Rodgers, THE PRISONER THE COMPLETE SERIES BLU-RAY is THE definitive release of the series and a must-have for all fans of high quality dramas.

Got this Blu-ray set a few years ago, and the image quality is truly outstanding! And it shows what we've been missing with The Prisoner all these years. Most people who only remember watching this show on crappy analog broadcast 525-line 19 inch TVs, will be in for a real surprise. You can actually see the weave texture on McGoohan's suit.

R.I.P Peter Wyngarde (who played no. 2 in this episode). He died last month on January 15, 2018.

The series is currently being re-run on ITV4 in the UK (for those who didn't know).
I wonder why, when Rachel Herbert took over from Eric Portman as the new No. 2 at the end of 'Free For All', she didn't appear as No. 2 in the following episode.

I always thought Peter Wyngarde (Number 2) looks like Leonard Nimoy. Fun fact: They used Leonard Nimoy's voice actor for Peter Wyngarde in the German dub. A fitting choice and no let's NOT have a discussion about dubbing.

The prisoner was a multi-faceted concept; a fusion of otherwise disperate concepts. With such a broad cenceptual spectrum as its basis, it's little wonder that the prisoner TV series caused so much public confusion.

_____He's always got that look on his face like he knows that people are messin' with him. Whatever crackpot madness that Number 1 has planned, The Prisoner is all like, "Okay, I'll go along with this nonsense." No matter how hard they try at their mind-screw antics, he always comes out on top. Me, I'd probably end up takin' a chainsaw to everybody on the island.

@IThinkMyNamesTooLong To demonstrate the confusion, one of the prisoner's unspoken messages was in a multi-episode reference to the village's location. And that came out in the Channel Four programme Six-Into-One...The Prisoner File, which I saw in 1984 (I also have that on DVD). The village was in different places, whenever Number Six tried to escape from it. The Village could be anywhere in the world, controlled by any, or by every, government.

Yes. I figured it was a cooperative venture of several "powers." They cooperate behind the scenes to keep US paying for constant war... with our earnings and our lives.

@why760nitro It was not cut short, on the contrary it was a bit longer than intended. McGoohan only wanted 7 episodes, but they had to make 17 in order to sell it to CBS in the US. It was not meant to be a long series a la The Avengers or even Danger Man, but just a short mini series.

Is it just me or does the "ex-count" in the chair behind at 0:50 disappear in a continuity error around 0:59 and not appear again until the wide shot at 2:42?

@IThinkMyNamesTooLong I can say that the series was confusing, because I didn't get it. I only got it decades later by repeated viewing, and by other informed, insider commentaries on it. That includes commentary by Patrick McGoohan himself. I was only 11-years-old when the series was first aired, so it helps to have the DVD set. To me, the series seemed quite haphazard at times, because so many concepts were incorporated into its short run.

the opening is the vienna game, but many of the moves are nonsense(knight to knight's bishop three???, you have to specify queen's bishop or king's bishop), I'm sure there's some allegorical meaning to it.
