Before the Police, before Primus, before any bass-oriented groove, there was Chic. Mr. Edwards and Mr. Rogers and crew created rhythms that made even the whitest of white move their heads forward to back in a smooth, rhythmic fashion. The body just naturally moves to the feel of this song unless you get in its way - if this happens, take a deep breath, relax, and listen some more.
During the blizzard of 1978, the school was open but there was no class. We could hang out or catch up with work. The principal had a beautiful beat box radio the size of a suitcase. He turned on the PA system. He made an announcement. The long version of this came on. It blasted throughout the hallways and classrooms. Teachers. Security. Janitors. Students. You should have seen the hallways. He was a nice principal in a great time of music.
I'm 62 years young and watch this video so often. I loved CHIC as a teen and love them as much now. Brought so much joy to the world with their happy sound. Disco truly was the best era.
What I’d give to go back in time and see Chic with Bernard!! Love’d them in the 70’s but they never came to my city of Ottawa. All are biased when it comes to music of our teens and early 20’s but in no way is the rap of the 2000-2020 comparable to this timeless tune and all the discography of Chic!
it has been the right feel in the 80s and still is for me today. smells like groove spirit, mr. edwards and mr rodgers. god bless you and @bernard , will never forget your great bass tunes, rip.
buenos tiempos de la musica disco 77,78,79 imaginemos como seria en la actualidad si hubiera ese tipo de bandas tipo chic fuera fenomenal acudir a esos concierto pagarias lo que sea,con tal de estar cerca de tus favoritos
Strange thing about life. Bernie Edwards lived a short life, but this bass line ( & others too) has inspired so many of his contemporaries ( Queen, David Bowie, The Sugarhill Gang) and still continues to influence bass players all over the world. Bernie Lives !!
No theft involved. These guys wrote the riff, guys ... Rapper's Delight grabs the riff & cycles it. That's rap, using just the principal hooks & none of the filler. "Don't bore us get to the Chorus" is one way to look at it. Both great songs in totally different ways.
I'm with you My brother or sister, check this out a bass player, and believe in playing the track that made a hit in first place, keep out The feels and hits.and bring the original joint if you have the musians that understands that.
Indeed Nate! Bernard was THE guy on bass. There was none better. Many came close and they were supreme in their craft, but all compare a bit less to Bernard's tone and style.
Nate Riggins I’ve been playing bass since about 1985 and he not only had an influence on me, but also many famous bassists - Paul Turner (Jamiroquai) and John Taylor (Duran Duran) just to name two.
Poor Bernard died later that night. About 3 hours after show ended he was found dead in his hotel room. He had gotten sick before the show with pneumonia and fever but chose to push on. He gave it all for one more show. I have to choke back tears every time I watch this.
If Bernard Edwards wasn’t your favorite bass player, he was your favorite bass player’s favorite bass player.
Very true statement my friend. 💯
Still one of the best sounding bass lines in the history of the bass world 🌎
RIP Bernard Edwards....one of his last performances.....the best bass!!!
As far as I know, this was actually the very last performance. Only a few hours afterwards he passed away. What a loss!
It was a good Band, my parents good and best music, and I love"it.. Yeah ✌️ 🎸🎶🎶💃🇲🇽
Rest and peace.. Bernard Edwars..
It was his last. He died the next day. RIP Bernard Edwards.

He sounds like a total dude, and that image you paint of the whole school getting down is just marvellous 😀
Cool story but, are You sure you got the year right? Chic’s Good Times wasn’t released until the summer of “79”. That’s what I think you meant to say.
I'm 62 years young and watch this video so often. I loved CHIC as a teen and love them as much now. Brought so much joy to the world with their happy sound. Disco truly was the best era.
RIP Mr. Bernard Edwards. The Epitome of the Expression "The Show Must Go On". This Gentleman of Funk, Innovators seem to leave us soo Early... :{

Here I am 59 and still jamming to this.
I'm 57 and feelin' it too - looking forward to dragging my walking frame out onto the floor in my 90s when this drops at a wedding or the like.
@@raelmozo6118 back then truly were the Good Times in my life. Justin Bieber wouldn't qualify as a roadie for a bad like this.
The inspiration for Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust"....
Oh, how I loved Chic!! I grew up with 70’s disco! Absolutely the best live and love music!!
Jill Jones is smokin' hot in this (and Le Freak)...I have never gotten over her! Ever
So many DJ's owe them so much. Damn they sounded good live! This took me right back to high school.

Chic è alchimia musicale e scenica perfetta.Strumentisti, coristi, corpo di ballo, mix di grandi professionisti.
As sick as he was, he still played flawlessly... R.I.P Bernard. R.I.P Tony Thompson..

Oh my god How could you not dance to this iconic tune from Nile and Bernard ❤️
Back in the late seventies I danced to their music. My favorite? I want your love.
The CD version of this concert might be their best album. Its a great live album and never mentioned
I'm back in high school when I listen to this. Who would have thought 35 years later I would still be jamming to it?

In case anyone doesn't know, the girl in yellow is the blonde that came out on Prince's 1999, and Automatic videos. She also came out on Purple Rain.

Edwards had influence on anyone who played bass at the time. You couldn't help it, he influenced you.
