Damn .... that bassline is a masterpiece. The one and only Bernard Edwards ♥ And what about musicians? A super group: drums - Omar Hakim percussions - Gerardo Velez keyboards - Philippe Saisse keyboards - Richard Hilton trumpet - Mac Gollehon sax - Bill Holloman background vocals - Christopher Max background vocals - Jill Jones lead vocals - Sylver Logan Sharp and, of course, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards
Imposible not to swing with this incredible performance. Pity that Bernard died in his room hotel the same night. Best bass player ever existed. Him and Nile were an absolutely stunning duo.
John Taylor, the bass player for Duran Duran gave an AWESOME TRIBUTE to Bernard. He stated "If it wasn't for MR BERNARD EDWARDS teaching how to REALLY PLAY THE BASS, Duran Duran would have NEVER scored the hits that we did. He gave me one of his SIGNATURE BASSES that I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE THIS UNEXPECTED GIFT FROM THE GREATEST BASS PLAYER IN MY MIND AND HEART! John Taylor has my ULTIMATE RESPECT for that!!!!!
Can't imagine how many times SS had sung this song, since 79, but here it seems so fresh! The energy is incredibly infectious! Of course, sad that this was Bernard Edwards last performance, but if the last thing I were doing in my life was this - this show, then I couldn't ask for a better way to leave this earth. RIP
It is hard for me to watch this video because before Mr. Edwards died you wouldn’t have known he was sick because he’s never act sick or anything. He never had any complaints. But knowing I will never see him again really hurts. I never liked saying long good-Byes so I’m just going to close with see you later. I love you Mr. Bernard no matter where you are. I just need you to know that.
I can only watch this amazing performance with great sadness, knowing that perhaps the greatest slap/funk bass player of all time would be dead just a few hours later. Just listen to Bernard's solo @ 3.25, then consider how sick he was when he played it. Always the best, right to the end.
Only Bernard Edward could make you shake your hips with a bass ! Greatest groovemachine man ever ! RIP Bernard Edward ! Even God dance on your bassline !
Nile Rodgers is, by far, THEE greatest and most pure rhythm guitarist in the world and it shows. In order to become that great, one must be a student of music and study with passion. In addition to Nile's natural timing and other gifts, he was a student and I think it shows most around minute 3:30 when Bernard goes into his bass solo and Nile is standing behind him watching with admiration and love and passion as Bernard thumps those funky notes. Just watch Nile's face and body language and you'll understand what I mean. Bernard Edwards was one of the world's premier bassists and musicians and Nile has often went on record acknowledging Bernard as his best friend and mentor. So, even that late into their careers and with Nile being THEE Nile Rodgers of many hits, he was still humble enough and smart enough to appreciate the greatness of the legendary Bernard Edwards. Yes, Morris Day and the Time were "Cool" and had that whole swagger, but we must remember that long before Morris and his guys showed up, Nile and Bernard, Tony, Lucy and Alfa were "Chic". Rest In Funky Heavy Bernard.
The Greatness of Bernard Edwards who died few hours later the show (He was very ill at the time) is in this performance!! R.i.P. Funk Disco Bass Master!!
We are family, I've got my grandson with me, 🎶well here for the week babysitting my lovable, cheeky, funny grandson on Valentines Day but that's OK, he is my little valentine and I love him to bits so this is for him, wish me luck 😂❤️
Just knowing that Bernard Edwards was actually dying while playing bass during this concert is a testament to to his legacy as one of the greatest groove master players of all time. RIP my bass player hero and brother.
kathy had gone to produce her single career, Bernard Edwards, died later the night of this show, but his even providing the excellence of this show, is a tribute to his personal dedication to his art. Iconic work of music. peace, DaKwala
This song was played at both my sister's weddings both are in their late 20's I’m 18 and we know the words by heart even my nanna who is a strong 89 Italian grandma.
Yeah y'all....The GREATEST BASS PLAYER OF THE MODERN MUSIC ERA passed away hours after THIS performance. Rest IN HEAVEN MR EDWARDS! YOU GAVE IT ALL TILL THE VERY END!!!!!! NOW THAT'S A TRUE LEGEND!!!!!!!!
I've heard millions of Bassist play this song and other chic songs but no one can duplicate Bernards tone on the Bass guitar. The minute you hear him play you know it is him. That's a God given tone you are hearing. Each musician has his own. And let's not forget Nile Rodgers on Guitar the king of the chicken Scratch sound One of the greatest guitarist in the world!!! I miss Bernard too.Can you imagine the kind of riffs he would be amazing us with today?
@MrMarmarius. Yes, Bernard was ill, but that is why he was one of the greatest bassists ever.He was a true professional. The show must go on and he wasn't going to let his fans down. He's what music is all about. A true GIANT. Rest In Peace, Brother Bernard Edwards. We miss you, man.
Essa música marcou uma época, comprei um vinil mix, com essa música é outra que não lembro o nome. Ouvia essa música quase sempre, música de uma época ou música atemporal.
I guess that many of us here, experienced pneumonia once in life. Since that you are reading this I also guess that you survived to pneumonia but I am sure you still remember how dead you felt with super high fever, weakness also to stand up to go and pee or eat anything or hold a cell phone. Imagine that with worst symptoms u could have died too. Now consider the conditions of the bass player here, playing flawlessly brilliant, died of pneumonia just few hours after this gig. What a talented musician
I listened to this music in my truck but this scene is the best one can listen to. For whom is the most intense pleasure, for them or for us??? What a wonderful sharing! Huge thoughts for those who are no longer here.
We Are Fa--mi--lyyyyyy................. wowwwwwwwwwwww my cheeks are still hurting I was smiling so hard........ awwwwwwwwwwww hold on a sec and let me finish singing with Sister Sledge....... And what about musicians? A super group:

percussions - Gerardo Velez
keyboards - Philippe Saisse
keyboards - Richard Hilton
trumpet - Mac Gollehon
sax - Bill Holloman
background vocals - Christopher Max
background vocals - Jill Jones
lead vocals - Sylver Logan Sharp
and, of course, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards
Sadly tha last time that fabulous bassline got played just the right way.
R.I.P Bernard. What a legend
Indeed !!!!👍👍
Agree. RIP - Rest in Power - Bernard!
Imposible not to swing with this incredible performance. Pity that Bernard died in his room hotel the same night. Best bass player ever existed. Him and Nile were an absolutely stunning duo.
Recrded at Tokyo's Budokan on April 17, 1996, that was to be the last performance by fellow Chic member Bernard Edwards who died the following day.

And it was clear he wasnt himself..seemed to struggle and not smile like usual. He is THE reason I am a bass player..

Live long, young man.
Actually, it wasn't "long before". The Time, Prince and Chic hit it big about the same time.
Nice words.

The older I get the more I miss the bass of Bernard.
With more missing comes more appreciation.
Truth told, that's where appreciation comes from.
If you get tired of missing Bernard,
then go get tired of James Jamerson.
