I've tried with a thin layer, with thicker layer, with extra lube, with half assed attempt with wire balancing, but the tick still prevailed. I even did it with holee mod, and had no success. I don't think any mod can get rid of ticking for 7u wires if the wire is just shit.
@@igieswainebragt If you see any of 3ildcats videos I learned from just copying him! but you can just put the stab wire on anything flat and just gently hit the wire in the bent areas to try and get it as straight as possible. It takes a little time but the results are almost always worth it if ur wires are a lil curved
Do you have any experience with 7u wires? If so, does wire balancing eliminate ticking? Because I've tried everything from the holee mod to wire balancing and I just can't get my 7u wires to stop ticking.
I've built a few keyboards and here are some of my experiences: 1) you can apply MULTIPLE layers of holeemod. it doesn't have to be only one layer. personally, I feel two layers of holee mod is the max limit. anything above that you'll find the wire get's stuck and the stab won't come up 2) most of the rattling stabs I've encountered are caused by bent wire. after straighten out the wire I was able to completely get rid of the rattles. The methods introduced in the video won't work if your wire is greatly bent. (by greatly I mean 1 - 2mm off of the surface) 3) Sometimes stab rattles can solely be eliminated by adding excessive amount of lube. (by excessive I mean more than normal but not over lubed). 4) lastly, modify stabs takes time and patience. When I was building my space 65, I spent 3 hours on straightening out a SINGLE stab wire... and yes, do use cushioning between the pliers otherwise it will chip the surface of the stab wires, This gets worse with holeemod since the chipped part doesn't glide smoothly anymore and it gets stuck on the bandit... '
I completely agree with the dude from the comments who said that we should somehow improve the design of stabilizers, or just a completely new invention of stabilizers. This is such a hemorrhoid, why not make a conditional holee mod from the factory with a thin layer of silicone?? Why is no manufacturer doing anything to fix this huge problem

Really interesting way to fix the age-old problem of ticking! Wish I found this before I committed to wire balancing everything. The video was really well-thought out and explained very thoroughly, although I felt like it would've been nice if you had explained what putting the cotton/band-aid under the wire was supposed to do (around the 1:50 mark) - I assume it balances the wire in the sense where both sides are now essentially "raised"? Overall I think it's a solid mod especially for people who are just getting into the hobby or like you said, don't want to deal with wire balancing or spend more $$$ but also for people already in the hobby who just want extra assurance that their stabs won't make any unnecessary noises. Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the idea is that the bandage adds a cushion before either side of the wire can hit the plastic and create the "tick." Balancing wires is probably a better long-term solution, but I wanted something that would work quickly and without a lot of careful tuning.
Thank you so much for this video! I can't emphasize enough how much I hate tuning stabilizers. I tried out the holee mod, thinking it would fix all my problems (which it did), but I ended up doing it only on my spacebar because it's so damn difficult to do. The results were good, but nothing amazing. After finding this video, I paired your mod with the shrink wrap mod and my problems were instantly gone. It yielded the exact same results as the holee mod with less trouble. Really can't thank you enough.
IMO holee mod is garbage. After a week or even less, keys starts to stuck because of softened glue. Plumbers mod was rescue for me, 6 months and still silent and thocky~
Great video. A lot of people don’t realize that overtime, lube (especially 205g0) will slowly start to move down and collect under wire which will eventually leave nothing to dampen the wire slamming into the top of the housing and ticking which is why the holee or epsi mod are 100% worth it the trouble imo.

Hey Great video it gave me an idea that I actually tried, instead of placing the band-aid under the stabilizer bar just put it directly on the bar ( without the cotton, just the sticky part) its easier and it makes sure the bar is never going metal to metal so no ticking. ofc you need to cut the bandaid to size so it doesnt cover the part where the bar connects with the stabilizers but it sounds great.
I just want to say the intro sounded too good to be to true-- even started disassembling my board before the vid was over! I legit tried every mod (like you mention) that came up in a search. But, my goodness, thank you so much for this. This mod, with lubing and holee mod, has eradicated my spacebar ticking (I've been suffering for like 8+ months)! It isn't a surefire fix though, as my enter key still has some minor ticking, but that's probably due to some other reason. My spacebar troubles are gone
I've noticed my PE modded boards that have foam going under the spacebar wire have no tick at all. I'm assuming it does the same thing as the band-aid in this case. My 67lite space-bar ticks real bad but I got the PE foam coming for it that should fix it, ill update whether it works or not.
ive actually tried all this method but for me, the easiest way was to insert small piece of deskey film leftover in one side of the stem inside the keycap. its really simples and effective. once i want to sell the keycaps, I just take it out with tweezers and its done
The other thing that I find helps (and has helped other people) is to hold up the stab with a toothpick when attaching the key. Then press down on the other side of the stab rather than pressing in the middle over the switch. This seems to help it balance and not "tick" when you touch the keycap. This is particularly effective for the spacebar, that tends to suffer it the worst.
For the past few weeks I've been trying to fix my rattling space bar noise but nothing worked. So I figured out since I can't do a 3ildcat styled metal bar stabilizing, I decided to give this tutorial a shot. Although both Hamaji Neo and this tutorial didn't helped much, the methods reduced the noise by at least 60%. Finally what worked for me was to shaft a lot of little pieces of band aids underneath the housing of both stabilizers, and it finally cured my keyboard cancer. Although it reduced the thocckiness of the spacebar, but darn I'm so happy now that I don't have to live with life-triggering OCD. Big thanks to you and Hamaji for the tutorial! (Update: Few days later, the issue resurfaced. And guess what? Turns out it was an unknown issue with my switches. I feel like killing myself even though the issue is finally resolved.)
So far this fix has worked for Akko screw-in stabs and the ticking is no more on my spacebar! I noticed that the holee mod was looked down on by a lot of people and even I was thinking that my spacebar would get all mushy and inconsistent. I guess I used a thin enough bandaid because I am not getting any of those issues! Hopefully your fix lasts for a long time, thank you so much!!!
First of all, I wanted to say thanks for the great video! I did this on my spacebar stab and it removed all the rattle. However, I have some questions. Did this mod also cause a reduction in volume and/or a slightly softer feeling? My spacebar is not mushy by any means, but it certainly feels dampened, and I feel like the same could be said about my spacebar. It's a retooled black switch, and before the mods it was louder compared to how it is now. Regardless, this is still a great video and really helpful for eliminating rattle!
Performing the Holee mod with fabric bandaids can absolutely cause a mushy or dampened feeling. Breaking the stabs in can help, but what I did is use a thinner plastic rather than fabric for my mod. I don't think it affects the feel much at all for me, but YMMV.

I've been using it for a few hours and I've also found that it isn't as big a difference as I once thought it was, and if there is any difference I'd say that it's negligible if it means these stabs don't rattle again or as frequently. I literally did the cotton ball mod inside the stab that i've watched a video long time ago about it on my new low profile keyboard that was making me crazy but it looks like i added to much cotton inside cuz now my spacebar is a little harder to press but at last that stupid ticking sound is gone 😂 😂
I bought a pack of Command Poster Strips (the white padded looking ones) and did this. I like it a little more than the bandaids because they Adhesive is on both sides, The padding is the perfect height, and one strip can can be used on every stabilizer on the board.
I was building a new board with Durock stabs and it was still rattling even with holee mod, I'm going to try this right now since I'm still assembling it and I really don't want to take off my stabs to re-tune.

Why aren't keyboard companies doing this themselves or improving their engineering to eliminate these things? I don't mind working on my things but nowadays companies usually pick up these things and "fix/change" their production to address these things for the customer. I think it could probably be that not enough people are asking for it. I have fallen in love with these custom keyboard video in the past few weeks and will eventually get into custom keyboards myself. Gotta get em' thoccs! :)

My stabs are clip ons, so I couldn't do it with the stabs installed, the holee mod made my spacebar get stuck and not bounce back up. I tried only wrapping bandaid around the wire and it worked, but it made my spacebar super mushy. I figured it must be because my bandaid was too thick, so I removed it and replaced with washi tape (I didn't have anything else on hand, except duck tape and I wasn't gonna use something so heavy duty) and it worked. The spacebar is still clacky, but at least it doesn't rattle and it doesn't tick anymore. The ticking was really driving me crazy. This is my first mechanical keyboard and it was prebuilt.
Cool trick/faster way to do this is to just use the PE foam mod, but don't cut out space for the wires (but still cut out space for the stab housings). The PE foam will effectively act the same way as the bandaid in this video and fill the gap between the PCB and the wire of the stabilizer.
As someone who is literally about to tear their board apart and mod it completely for the first time I'm really glad this came to my recommendations. This is my first board and if it sounds as good as I'm hoping I think I'm going to be in trouble...
I will definitely try out the Mason mod the next time I fiddle around with my stabilizers. They have yet to be perfected. However, I would like to advise against using the Holee mod in some instances due to (in my experience) stabilizers becoming either too mushy or scratchy in sound. Obviously, bandaid varieties decide what a stabilizer will feel and sound like. I suppose the ones I've tried just haven't really worked that well.
When I first got into the hobby, I had picked up a Corsair K70 with the most disgusting stabilizers I'd known (until I got a Massdrop CTRL lolol). My solution at the time was to pinch off tiny tufts of loosely formed foam (bigger air pockets and less dense) and center that over the ends of each bar to cushion it from impacting any plastic. It made a world of difference and didn't change the feel as long as I didn't use too much. It stiffened the spacebar up a tad so it wouldn't wobble and smoothed out the downstroke, so I'm really surprised nothing that follows that same principal is a thing I've seen done by anyone else.
You talk about permanently solving the ticking... ... but it feels like you just put a band-aid on the problem. In all seriousness, thank you so much for making this video. My keyboard (ASUS Azoth) sound great to my ear, except for the spacebar. I used a tape mod to make it sound less hollow but it still ticks and it's driving me nuts. It's exactly as you say: one side must be unbalanced because only the left side of the spacebar ticks. I'll give your solution a try.
I've been around a while. Had many hobbies, interests, jobs, whatever. Keyboards and the assorted accessories is the goofiest area of products and people I've ever seen. Group buys? Sold outs? Silly seller sites. Silly keycaps. Bad design/engineering. I just wanted a good keyboard with brightly lit letters.
Thanks for this, the pad under the spacebar didn't actually stop my ticking but made me go back and look at my spacebar. The actual cause was that the stab screws weren't tight enough, just an ever so slight amount of slack caused some real bad ticking
So i have duok v2 stabs, and i have holee modded mine, lubed them, bandade them (under wire and under the housing) and the ticking still happens, its has become less noticeable after leaving some screws to balance it out , but I still get a very slight ticking noise, that won't go, so unless I got some wire balancing I need to do, can't for the life of me understand why it continues to do this. Edit: Turn out it was a warped spacebar
Tbh the plumbers mod solved my ticking probems. I apply the teflon tape on the wire where the stab clip and wire meet as well as the ends (i prefer this than holee mod as i think its more durable in the long run rather than a single strip of band aid. After applying the tape, i then apply molykote grease on the ends of the wire where the plumbers tape are. I wrap the teflon tape about 3-4 times on each wire end and 2-3 on the wire where it hits the clip. If it feels a little slugging, dont worry, spam it for 10 minutes and it is golden. This is what i have done for my wooting 60he and i have no rattles whatsoever.
Oh man, this is a godsent. I didn't know that it was ticking instead of rattle. I literally stopped using my keyboard because the ticking drives me nuts. I'm not sure if it's the first or second kind. I think it's the first. But I guess I'll have to open this thing up now anyway
Thank you for this video! I have this exact problem. After spending hours and hours modding, lubing, researching and spending close to $1,000 on different keyboard builds in search for a truly rattle and tick free space bar, I finally gave up. I holee modded every stab and lubed and still get small ticks and rattle on my space bar. I finally had the realization that I have spent 20+ hours working on this to get the same infuriating result. I realized I spend more time building keyboards than I do using my pc or gaming which is the whole reason I wanted to build a custom keyboard with lubed switches. I went back to my old stock G915 and Ducky one 2 mini and started gaming again. Life is now less stressful and I actually spend time using my pc instead of obsessing over some rattle in my keyboard. The reality is, you use headphones so you really don’t hear your keyboard anyway so just use a stock prebuilt board. It will save you thousands of dollars and hours of frustration.
adding some dialetric grease helped a ton and actually got rid of it, but kept comming back. Add more, came back, add more... oh crap now my stabs are slow. So now I'll have to take it all apart to remove and clean the stabs, so I hope to try this and see how it goes. I saw some negatives for the holee mod saying it can come loose easy so its not a good long term solution, so I would probably try the pipe thread tape instead.
I hate that I only saw this video after finding a real solution to it. About a month ago when I built my first mech, after making sure I haven't done anything horribly wrong, I was PISSED. I was so pissed at for the fact that most enthusiast see it as an non issue, to me it felt that this is a bar set too low for an niche enthusiast hobby. Worst part was nobody had a real solution to it, just lube it properly they said, watch Taehatype's tutorial they said. No matter how well lubed the stabs were, the ticks all comeback within DAYS. EVERY OTHER DAY I WAS TAKING APART MY KEYBOARD EVERY FEW DAYS AND CLEANING THE STABS AND RELUBING THEM.
I just want to say thank you x1000000000. You saved me from insanity. This worked for me. Ultimately it was the bandaid under the spacebar stabs that did it for me.
I have the exact same experience and I've got my own fix. Did tons of research and testing and finally found something that really worked on cherry screw in stabs, and will test on durock v2s very soon. Too bad I don't have experience in making videos for a tutorial;-;
I should add that this also doesn't make the key mushy at all, unlike all holee mod variants that actually mute the ticking, I found all of them at least muting the top out if not also the bottom out, to various degrees.
@@LukeMason In short, I used two types of very specific thin af transparent band aid strips, one on the bottom and one on the top of the inner stem hole, which were the exact thickness to fill in the gap and to prevent wire-to-stem ticking sound, but not to make the key feel mushy. I haven't really had the issue of wire-to-housing ticking, I simply inject a bunch of lube right under where the wire bends, which seemed to easily do the trick.
can i do the band aid cushion thing without having the stabilizers already installed and instead putting the band aid first then installing the stabilizers? I cant really open up my pcb from the plate due to tape mod, so i have to put the band aid cushion first then install stabilizers

i'm not sure what exactly fixed my keyboard's spacebar ticking, but it is fixed and sounds better now. I know i watched someone building a custom keyboard and i followed his turtorial and it worked. What he did was add tape/i used bandages on the stabilizer holes on the plate and making the stabilizers tight, which fixed my problem . . . I also used a different, much better brand of lube aswell but i am pretty sure that tape mod thingy fixed it.
Thanks for the video! Spacebar ticking was driving me insane, and I haven't found any posts or videos diving deep into the issue. I managed to fix my spacebar with wire balancing, but still it was quite hard to balance precisely, I just got lucky at some point with a good enough bend. But rest of my stabs were still ticking, so I decided to try your method + holee mod, and it did solve the issue for all the keys! The stabs do feel rather stiff though - I'll have to see if they become better after some break-in period.
Give this man a noble I was about to pay 20 bucks on new stabilizers or gonna return my new keyboard but it took me 1 hour of work and now it is sounding like a 200 buck keyboard 👍❤️
I didn't have enough fabric bandaid and dont know why I didn't go with the plastic ones but I gave double side tape a shot and it works. I left the top cover of course but my spacebar is rattle free now. Thank you!

Honestly I don't know why to this day they don't make stabs that don't rattle or tick. Adding a little bit of soft rubber would probably fix that ticking noise?

since i always do some wire balancing on my stabs, ive actually never ran into the ticking problem, but very well done video explaining the solution!

I Used a more fabric like bandaid it was more thick than the one you used in the video btw

I've noticed my PE modded boards that have foam going under the spacebar wire have no tick at all. I'm assuming it does the same thing as the band-aid in this case. My 67lite space-bar ticks real bad but I got the PE foam coming for it that should fix it, ill update whether it works or not.

ive actually tried all this method but for me, the easiest way was to insert small piece of deskey film leftover in one side of the stem inside the keycap. its really simples and effective. once i want to sell the keycaps, I just take it out with tweezers and its done
The other thing that I find helps (and has helped other people) is to hold up the stab with a toothpick when attaching the key. Then press down on the other side of the stab rather than pressing in the middle over the switch. This seems to help it balance and not "tick" when you touch the keycap. This is particularly effective for the spacebar, that tends to suffer it the worst.
For the past few weeks I've been trying to fix my rattling space bar noise but nothing worked. So I figured out since I can't do a 3ildcat styled metal bar stabilizing, I decided to give this tutorial a shot. Although both Hamaji Neo and this tutorial didn't helped much, the methods reduced the noise by at least 60%. Finally what worked for me was to shaft a lot of little pieces of band aids underneath the housing of both stabilizers, and it finally cured my keyboard cancer. Although it reduced the thocckiness of the spacebar, but darn I'm so happy now that I don't have to live with life-triggering OCD. Big thanks to you and Hamaji for the tutorial!
(Update: Few days later, the issue resurfaced. And guess what? Turns out it was an unknown issue with my switches. I feel like killing myself even though the issue is finally resolved.)

So far this fix has worked for Akko screw-in stabs and the ticking is no more on my spacebar!
I noticed that the holee mod was looked down on by a lot of people and even I was thinking that my spacebar would get all mushy and inconsistent. I guess I used a thin enough bandaid because I am not getting any of those issues! Hopefully your fix lasts for a long time, thank you so much!!!
First of all, I wanted to say thanks for the great video! I did this on my spacebar stab and it removed all the rattle. However, I have some questions. Did this mod also cause a reduction in volume and/or a slightly softer feeling? My spacebar is not mushy by any means, but it certainly feels dampened, and I feel like the same could be said about my spacebar. It's a retooled black switch, and before the mods it was louder compared to how it is now. Regardless, this is still a great video and really helpful for eliminating rattle!
Performing the Holee mod with fabric bandaids can absolutely cause a mushy or dampened feeling. Breaking the stabs in can help, but what I did is use a thinner plastic rather than fabric for my mod. I don't think it affects the feel much at all for me, but YMMV.

I've been using it for a few hours and I've also found that it isn't as big a difference as I once thought it was, and if there is any difference I'd say that it's negligible if it means these stabs don't rattle again or as frequently. I literally did the cotton ball mod inside the stab that i've watched a video long time ago about it on my new low profile keyboard that was making me crazy but it looks like i added to much cotton inside cuz now my spacebar is a little harder to press but at last that stupid ticking sound is gone 😂 😂
I bought a pack of Command Poster Strips (the white padded looking ones) and did this. I like it a little more than the bandaids because they Adhesive is on both sides, The padding is the perfect height, and one strip can can be used on every stabilizer on the board.

I was building a new board with Durock stabs and it was still rattling even with holee mod, I'm going to try this right now since I'm still assembling it and I really don't want to take off my stabs to re-tune.

Why aren't keyboard companies doing this themselves or improving their engineering to eliminate these things?
I don't mind working on my things but nowadays companies usually pick up these things and "fix/change" their production to address these things for the customer. I think it could probably be that not enough people are asking for it.
I have fallen in love with these custom keyboard video in the past few weeks and will eventually get into custom keyboards myself.

My stabs are clip ons, so I couldn't do it with the stabs installed, the holee mod made my spacebar get stuck and not bounce back up. I tried only wrapping bandaid around the wire and it worked, but it made my spacebar super mushy. I figured it must be because my bandaid was too thick, so I removed it and replaced with washi tape (I didn't have anything else on hand, except duck tape and I wasn't gonna use something so heavy duty) and it worked. The spacebar is still clacky, but at least it doesn't rattle and it doesn't tick anymore. The ticking was really driving me crazy. This is my first mechanical keyboard and it was prebuilt.

Cool trick/faster way to do this is to just use the PE foam mod, but don't cut out space for the wires (but still cut out space for the stab housings).
The PE foam will effectively act the same way as the bandaid in this video and fill the gap between the PCB and the wire of the stabilizer.
As someone who is literally about to tear their board apart and mod it completely for the first time I'm really glad this came to my recommendations. This is my first board and if it sounds as good as I'm hoping I think I'm going to be in trouble...
I will definitely try out the Mason mod the next time I fiddle around with my stabilizers. They have yet to be perfected. However, I would like to advise against using the Holee mod in some instances due to (in my experience) stabilizers becoming either too mushy or scratchy in sound.
Obviously, bandaid varieties decide what a stabilizer will feel and sound like. I suppose the ones I've tried just haven't really worked that well.

When I first got into the hobby, I had picked up a Corsair K70 with the most disgusting stabilizers I'd known (until I got a Massdrop CTRL lolol). My solution at the time was to pinch off tiny tufts of loosely formed foam (bigger air pockets and less dense) and center that over the ends of each bar to cushion it from impacting any plastic. It made a world of difference and didn't change the feel as long as I didn't use too much. It stiffened the spacebar up a tad so it wouldn't wobble and smoothed out the downstroke, so I'm really surprised nothing that follows that same principal is a thing I've seen done by anyone else.
You talk about permanently solving the ticking...
... but it feels like you just put a band-aid on the problem.
In all seriousness, thank you so much for making this video. My keyboard (ASUS Azoth) sound great to my ear, except for the spacebar. I used a tape mod to make it sound less hollow but it still ticks and it's driving me nuts. It's exactly as you say: one side must be unbalanced because only the left side of the spacebar ticks. I'll give your solution a try.
I've been around a while. Had many hobbies, interests, jobs, whatever. Keyboards and the assorted accessories is the goofiest area of products and people I've ever seen. Group buys? Sold outs? Silly seller sites. Silly keycaps. Bad design/engineering. I just wanted a good keyboard with brightly lit letters.
Balancing the wires actually didn't help out. Holee mod ends up being too mushy. Your fix alone actually did the job. Thumb up!
Thanks for this, the pad under the spacebar didn't actually stop my ticking but made me go back and look at my spacebar. The actual cause was that the stab screws weren't tight enough, just an ever so slight amount of slack caused some real bad ticking
So i have duok v2 stabs, and i have holee modded mine, lubed them, bandade them (under wire and under the housing) and the ticking still happens, its has become less noticeable after leaving some screws to balance it out , but I still get a very slight ticking noise, that won't go, so unless I got some wire balancing I need to do, can't for the life of me understand why it continues to do this.

Tbh the plumbers mod solved my ticking probems. I apply the teflon tape on the wire where the stab clip and wire meet as well as the ends (i prefer this than holee mod as i think its more durable in the long run rather than a single strip of band aid. After applying the tape, i then apply molykote grease on the ends of the wire where the plumbers tape are. I wrap the teflon tape about 3-4 times on each wire end and 2-3 on the wire where it hits the clip. If it feels a little slugging, dont worry, spam it for 10 minutes and it is golden. This is what i have done for my wooting 60he and i have no rattles whatsoever.
Oh man, this is a godsent. I didn't know that it was ticking instead of rattle. I literally stopped using my keyboard because the ticking drives me nuts. I'm not sure if it's the first or second kind. I think it's the first. But I guess I'll have to open this thing up now anyway

Thank you for this video! I have this exact problem. After spending hours and hours modding, lubing, researching and spending close to $1,000 on different keyboard builds in search for a truly rattle and tick free space bar, I finally gave up. I holee modded every stab and lubed and still get small ticks and rattle on my space bar. I finally had the realization that I have spent 20+ hours working on this to get the same infuriating result. I realized I spend more time building keyboards than I do using my pc or gaming which is the whole reason I wanted to build a custom keyboard with lubed switches. I went back to my old stock G915 and Ducky one 2 mini and started gaming again. Life is now less stressful and I actually spend time using my pc instead of obsessing over some rattle in my keyboard. The reality is, you use headphones so you really don’t hear your keyboard anyway so just use a stock prebuilt board. It will save you thousands of dollars and hours of frustration.

adding some dialetric grease helped a ton and actually got rid of it, but kept comming back. Add more, came back, add more... oh crap now my stabs are slow.
So now I'll have to take it all apart to remove and clean the stabs, so I hope to try this and see how it goes. I saw some negatives for the holee mod saying it can come loose easy so its not a good long term solution, so I would probably try the pipe thread tape instead.

I hate that I only saw this video after finding a real solution to it. About a month ago when I built my first mech, after making sure I haven't done anything horribly wrong, I was PISSED. I was so pissed at for the fact that most enthusiast see it as an non issue, to me it felt that this is a bar set too low for an niche enthusiast hobby. Worst part was nobody had a real solution to it, just lube it properly they said, watch Taehatype's tutorial they said. No matter how well lubed the stabs were, the ticks all comeback within DAYS. EVERY OTHER DAY I WAS TAKING APART MY KEYBOARD EVERY FEW DAYS AND CLEANING THE STABS AND RELUBING THEM.

I have the exact same experience and I've got my own fix. Did tons of research and testing and finally found something that really worked on cherry screw in stabs, and will test on durock v2s very soon. Too bad I don't have experience in making videos for a tutorial;-;
I should add that this also doesn't make the key mushy at all, unlike all holee mod variants that actually mute the ticking, I found all of them at least muting the top out if not also the bottom out, to various degrees.

@@LukeMason In short, I used two types of very specific thin af transparent band aid strips, one on the bottom and one on the top of the inner stem hole, which were the exact thickness to fill in the gap and to prevent wire-to-stem ticking sound, but not to make the key feel mushy. I haven't really had the issue of wire-to-housing ticking, I simply inject a bunch of lube right under where the wire bends, which seemed to easily do the trick.
can i do the band aid cushion thing without having the stabilizers already installed and instead putting the band aid first then installing the stabilizers? I cant really open up my pcb from the plate due to tape mod, so i have to put the band aid cushion first then install stabilizers
As long as there's no interference and the stabs aren't being screwed in on top of the bandaid, it sounds like that should be fine.

Also check if the housings fit tight and snugly on their plate sockets. If they don't, they may rattle like hell. That was my case.

i'm not sure what exactly fixed my keyboard's spacebar ticking, but it is fixed and sounds better now. I know i watched someone building a custom keyboard and i followed his turtorial and it worked. What he did was add tape/i used bandages on the stabilizer holes on the plate and making the stabilizers tight, which fixed my problem . . . I also used a different, much better brand of lube aswell but i am pretty sure that tape mod thingy fixed it.

Thanks for the video! Spacebar ticking was driving me insane, and I haven't found any posts or videos diving deep into the issue. I managed to fix my spacebar with wire balancing, but still it was quite hard to balance precisely, I just got lucky at some point with a good enough bend. But rest of my stabs were still ticking, so I decided to try your method + holee mod, and it did solve the issue for all the keys! The stabs do feel rather stiff though - I'll have to see if they become better after some break-in period.
