    The idea of just painting the main 3 colors and then going back later to work on details really makes painting that army I've been putting off for months more palatable.

    Another tip for those afraid to use the sharp edge of their xacto knife to trim the mold lines (or have accidentally chunked it for lack of delicate hands): flip it around and use the back edge. Works great as a mold line remover.

      To each their own! I have so many minis that if i ever want to see them on the table i need to paint some of them quickly. Plus, speed painting the first few coats motivates me to paint HQ models at a higher level

    5:33 I'm very much in agreement here. I will nearly always lay down all my (boring) base colours first just because the results following the washes and highlights are far more rewarding. Great job on getting these guys painted up, I really need more motivation to build and paint up some armies.

      Thanks Pete! Some evenings i like to take a previously basecoated mini and start highlighting it up to a high level, its much easier to get into than starting from scratch

    I appreciate you mentioning the table top quality milestone, I often get stressed out about painting because I feel like I need to be putting on 8 different colors before I can start playing with my minis. But getting the main 3 honestly does look just as good when I’m playing and just looking at them from a distance

    Random fact. During WW2, radium was painted onto the numbers on aircraft dials so they would glow in the dark. Sadly, many of the ladies working on these would lick the brush just like you do and got radiation sickness. Always makes me cringe when people lick their brush now. (Edited)

    • @EricsHobbyWorkshop
      @EricsHobbyWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I honestly don’t usually do that. In that shot i am not even actually painting, its just b-roll that i recorded for a segment in someone elses video. The brush was a clean one i have never used with splayed tip - i felt like i needed to put a point on it so you guys wouldnt notice i was just pretending to paint. Then the autofocus pulled focus on something in the background so the only usable b-roll i had is that short clip of me licking the brush which i think i used more than once in this video lol. Now i must live in infamy as a brush licker even though I’m not even one ususally

    • @markzambelli
      @markzambelli 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Barrie, not to be picky but it wasn't Uranium that was used... it was Radium and its use in paint goes back further than WW2. I've dug out a link for your perusal if you're interested en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium_Girls .
      I know exactly what you mean when you mention seeing others pulling a nice needle point on their brushes using their lips... I also cringe (and even more so today what with acrylic paint being plastic and containing so much that shouldn't be in anyones bodies en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylic_paint ).
      As Dennis Leary once said when he mentioned treating his body as a temple, "That's why I leave my boots on the outside!"
