  • This week brings us the concluding part of 'The Trial' by Franz Kafka. Despite all he has been through, K. is still no closer to knowing what he has been put on trial for, or if his efforts to defend himself have been effective. How will all this possibly reach a resolution...?

What a Kafkaesque story! His style is completely unique such a subtle feeling of dread and helplessness in face of unkown bureocracy - brilliant and terrible

i haven't quite gotten to the end yet (i'm at 49:00 it just finished the "prison chaplain"'s discourse on the story of the man trying to gain entrance into the law), but it seems to me that the unknown bureaucracy is only dangerous because of one's own vanity of "respectableness" and "position", and indeed is empowered totally through these imaginary social constructs as "society". basically, josef k constructed his own downfall by paying attention to all the shite?...lol, he shoulda gone to the country, like his uncle suggested!

...which turns out to almost be the end! 🤣 he died just as he lived, a pedantic fool, unable to perceive reality due to his own stupid willful blindness...eternally convinced of his perfect intelligent vision.

Oh man! I remember when you started this channel with part 1 of war of the worlds. I've just stumbled back onto this channel and I'm excited to see lots of books including Kafka! I'm very excited to give several of these a listen!

It’s almost as if the trial had set a timer deciding how long K had left to live. And K spent the entirety of that time trying to avoid death. Without any progress or success in achieving this, he was put to death knowing as much as he did in the beginning of this novel. He was killed before he could finish solving his story. Perhaps this could allude to Kafkas life as well, in as much as this story was never complete due to his death.
