This video gave me the chills. I can vividly remember sitting inside this car when I was 4 or 5. Our family used to drive this from Manila to Baguio. Kudos to you Sir for restoring this beautiful piece of machinery.
I have been a fan of 80s cars, unfortunuately we dont have the capacity to have one. Trully a fan of lancer, corolla, galant and others. At the age of 43, this is basically a part of my passion and my heart to love cars like these.. Again love cars like these, hoping that its not too late for me to experience the 70s and 80s era..
It's never too late. Mine is not a Mitsu buy a 99 Civic non vtec. My family is really contemplating that I should get a new car, but I opted getting this one. Not because of the F*Boy effect, but because of the fun building your own dream car. Seeing it transform from a crappy car to a head turning machine is worth it. Though I still have a lot of things to do with it, still it's a work in progress.
Thanks for sharing Sir. Good memories.
Now that's inspiring. It's not how fast or fuel efficient your car is. It's about all the work you put into it. That's why people tinkering old cars appreciate a car like this even more. Thank you sir.
This is your young fan from Sri Lanka. I know about this car very well, it never goes out of style. It sad most car companies don't bring out such great machines anymore. May be they're running out of ideas. Thank you very much for uploading this prescious video on youtube.
kahit sino at kahit saan makakita ng ganyan old school may hilig oh wala still they will admire it. lalo na vintage at well preserve sir. your very lucky . hirap kase dito mag trabaho sa pinas kahit kayod kalabaw Ka pa.
This is the best filipino restored lancer box type I've ever watch please sir continue so in love when it comes to 80's model car because of it style and uniqueness astonishing love it and of course your message to it i love it mabuhay kayo sir 👊👊
Thanks for this Sir, I plan to restore my Grand Father's boxtype, he passed away before I was born. My dad drove this when I was little kid but had too many issues and he didn't have time to fix it, at the moment its sitting in our garage in Philippines doing nothing. I want to restore the car and show it to my Parents, especially my Grand Mother who has not seen it run for a long time. It would be cool too if my Son (3 months young) will be able to drive it in the future when we visit the Philippines! :) Thanks for this as it inspired me a lot!
Eric, I'd like to thank you for this uploading this video. It was both informative & entertaining. It also brought back a lot of memories. My father had a 1981 1.6 liter Mitsubishi Lancer & I had the opportunity to borrow & drive it during my high school days through the end of my university days. At 85 PS (stock), it had its fair share of winning (& losing). By today's standards, it's not very fast nor does it corner well but if I have the opportunity to drive it again, I would at the drop of the hat. Again, thank you.
I had a 1987 Mitsubishi Lancer SL and the only problem I had was changing the fuel pump several times until a mechanic suggested to install a electric fuel pump which cost me only 350 pesos..and since then had no other issues at all. Great car for all generations.
Im new sir im 25 years old maybe too young to appreciate old school cars but, i have a 1987 Lancer from my Dad its a little rusty yes and im an ordinary employee in the Philippines, i restore it little by little.. all stock still not power steering but im enjoying it.. i hope my car will be same as beautiful like yours... Sir youre my inspiration now your car is also my inspiration i salute you sir with all of my heart. Giving me this fuel to continue what i want and what i can do to restore mine :)
always keep it stock as much as possible, thats the only to keep this car to run for life, there's abundant of PHDM Lancer surplus parts out there its matter of timing and budget to get it...be patient...
+Peter Finegan There's a section on the MLR forum dedicated to Ex owners Peter, handy for spares and advice if you ever need any mate. I've done a few videos on mine, and if you need anything from the Repair manual photocopying let me know via a comment!.
Like what you said "the smell of old interior"... im in the process of restoring our pink 1985 SL. It was not easy really but i know after a year it will be worth the wait. Thanks sir for the inspiration!
Greetings from another Lancer owner in the UK. I've been to the Philippines several times and saw so many Lancers there, but they have the 1.6 engine and not the 2.0 turbo option. I agree though, yours is really nice, keep the Retro Lancer dream alive!
I admire your passion towards what you are doing. I also own a japan spec lancer however, with a different engine.. Mine is a A172A 3 speed automatic tranny with a 4g12 engine. good work and nice video Sir hats off!
I love these old Box Type Lancer's. Simple, clean lines, Exactly how cars should be. Not fucking rounded off bullshit like we get today! I wish they would've sold these here in the US, especially the 1800 GSR Intercooled Turbo model. They would've sold like crazy! They just don't make 'em like this anymore, it's a shame.
Mopar Man This is a 1983 car. You can import them to the US without any restriction as a 25 year old car. Just use an importer to save you from the hassle of doing the paperworks.
growing up in the 90's my dad owned one of these ex turbos I could remember like it was just yesterday, teenagers then wants to buy my dad's ex turbo because he took care of it as if its new, his ex turbo was converted from rhd since it was import from japan
darating ang panahon na mag kakapera ako para makabuo o makabili ng sasakyan nayan na mitsubishi lancer boxtype. tama ka nga sir its unique design. yan pinapangarap kong sasakyan kahit 80's pa iyan....

I like it when you described the "distinct smell of the engine and the interior" I wish I can have mine back again...
I just watched Ramon Bautista's lancer boxtype 87. Then this. It inspires me to know what is my real passion in life.
Best car for vapor wave, retro wave and future funk music
