Wow, just wow. A contemporary of this car, like the mentioned Ruf Yellowbird, was the factory sanctioned, twin turbo, Callaway Corvette. _Both_ seem absolutely tame by comparison.
These were phenomenal vehicles! It was also known as the Koenig Competition Evolution. I remember seeing one in the late 80's at an exotic dealership in LA that had belonged to Mike Tyson. On each seat back/headrest, it was embroidered with a pair of boxing gloves and "M. Tyson". If I remember correctly, that one was dark blue and it might have been a convertible.
One of my all-time dream cars! In many ways, it looks like the F40’s big brother. I really wish these body kits could be made again using lighter materials.
I remember reading a story on these cars in a magazine from the late 80s. The test driver was told by Willy, it would go 328kph (204mph). They took it out onto the autobahn early in the morning, and after warming up the engine and gearbox, floored the gas to V max. According to the writer, it went 328kph !
if you ask me between the yellowbird and this koenig, its a "this is brilliant, but i LIKE this" situation. thats how porsche vs ferrari has always been. excitement and passion that makes you feel like a movie star, super hero, and god all at once. whereas the porsche is "ya, id daily that no problem, its fine"
"Fast, Faster, and Fastest" was the cover of an issue of a car mag 35 years ago with this car, the Corvette Callaway Sledgehammer (the fastest at 250+ mph), and either an AMG Hammer or modified 959 Porsche. I'd love to find that magazine or article again!

I really like the story flow of this style of video. I think this gives a bit of the flavor of the time intensive videos with voice over but with alot less editing time.
Let’s be real - this never made 1000hp. Koenig avoided the scrutiny of contemporary German magazine road tests like the plague (as opposed to e.g. RUF), the one time they tested a turbocharged 328 it broke down. I‘d give this 500, maybe 600 at best.
I don't think I have ever seen a video that I could actually see the turbo's kick in, and the very rapid speed change as clear as this one. I understand how it works, but usually it is hard to tell on video.
very nice, i like how you "talk story" thanks so much.. i looked up your venom runway video and i like how you drive, thanks again. I've felt those feelings and you express them very well..
I have the FUJIMI plastic model of this beast. Only the air scoops at the back seem to have been added to the original NACA air intakes for oil cooling, along with apparently new ones that caused you issues to get access to the refill cap. What a monster. If I was given the choice between a Chiron and this, I would take this one. Radical and unique. FUJIMI also sold in parallel the Koenig sibling, the Countach. Another test perhaps?
I was so into 288 GTO , F40 , dream cars compared to a 328 , even a dream F355. This was unobtainium like finding hens teeth in a big old rocking horse shit . Good / bad/ indifferent it was sooo much car , what could possibly be wrong to a 12 yo me 😂😂😂
0:58 When fueling is 2 mans job:):) But look on that engine!!! True art. Also love those wheels. You need love old school turbo cars and why this car is not in video games??? Soo unique!
I cant imagine how hard that car is to drive. A normal 80s ferrari thats stock is already annoying to drive bc of the how stiff the clutches are and heavy steering
Koenig was THE Ferrari tuner back in the day and I spent some time at his shop and the things they were doing were way ahead of any aftermarket back then. He was making a billet 5 liter 4 cylinder to make 2000hp when I was there many years ago. Haltech was across the street from his shop.
This car is badass ! Of all the tuner car's from the 80's this Konig Competition EVO was the first in the 1000 hp club I believe. Long before the Bugatti Veyron was a thing ....Also , those top speed claims seem conservative ( 215 mph with 1000 hp ) when an Aventador svj records ( 218 mph with 770 hp ) with similar aero...........Legend !

Read about this car in Road & Track Exotic Cars magazine waaaaaay back when.
Was legendary then, love that you got it on video - legend lives on
OH. WOW. Damn , I never thought I'd see one driven out in the wild. Thanks for getting the vid posted. Still have the R&T mag
I don't think I have ever seen a video that I could actually see the turbo's kick in, and the very rapid speed change as clear as this one. I understand how it works, but usually it is hard to tell on video.
NACA duct leading into giant protruding ram-air scoop? (6:05) Would be interesting to hear an aerodynamics expert comment on that.
very nice, i like how you "talk story" thanks so much.. i looked up your venom runway video and i like how you drive, thanks again. I've felt those feelings and you express them very well..
I thought this was a kit car at first as I have never heard of this insane Koenig creation prior to this video. Learned something today! Thanks!
Such a rad car. I saw one in the flesh in Japan outside a hotel I was staying at way back... probably early 2000s. Got a snap of it somewhere
Always loved that Koenig, I remember reading about it back in the days in Dupont registry when I was a kid and it blew me away!!
This thing is dope but the Koenig F50 twin turbo is even cooler. The F50 has got to be one of the best sounding cars out there.
ok
I had 1 on my wall as a kid , a uk car mag did a feature an I was sooo sold 😊😊😊
I was so into 288 GTO , F40 , dream cars compared to a 328 , even a dream F355.
This was unobtainium like finding hens teeth in a big old rocking horse shit .
Good / bad/ indifferent it was sooo much car , what could possibly be wrong to a 12 yo me 😂😂😂
0:58 When fueling is 2 mans job:):)
But look on that engine!!!
True art.
Also love those wheels.
You need love old school turbo cars and why this car is not in video games???
Soo unique!
A tuner F40, but a Testa, I would love to drive it, a little bit of 80s jank is welcome. 🔥🔥
When I was a kid, I had a huge (framed) poster of this car..
this has been my ultimate dream car for the last decade! what a time for me to be stuck at work with a phone with a broken speaker!
I cant imagine how hard that car is to drive. A normal 80s ferrari thats stock is already annoying to drive bc of the how stiff the clutches are and heavy steering
My childhood dream. Deeply batshit. Thanks Matt !
Fun fact the Designer for Koenig was no other than the Porsche tuner Strosek
Koenig was THE Ferrari tuner back in the day and I spent some time at his shop and the things they were doing were way ahead of any aftermarket back then. He was making a billet 5 liter 4 cylinder to make 2000hp when I was there many years ago. Haltech was across the street from his shop.
is koenig now go debunk? i never heard of em in recent years, only before 2000?
I love a fast and somewhat sketchy car but 200 plus in that thing is terrifying
This is literally the first time ever i've seen an ad on a TH-cam video that made me instantly go buy one
1980s mad boost is so crazy and addictive 🤪
This car is badass ! Of all the tuner car's from the 80's this Konig Competition EVO was the first in the 1000 hp club I believe. Long before the Bugatti Veyron was a thing ....Also , those top speed claims seem conservative ( 215 mph with 1000 hp ) when an Aventador svj records ( 218 mph with 770 hp ) with similar aero...........Legend !
I was waiting for a review like this for many many years thank you
I wonder how it would do on the Wangan?
This made me pucker up just watching. That is a wild machine
I remember reading about this and all of their other bat shit crazy cars decades ago. But life never seen a video off one like this! Thanks so much. Crazy bonkers machine.
