This is one of Steve Mcqueen's own personal cars which he bought during his time working on BULLITT. Steve absolutely loved his NART spyder until it was totalled only a couple days after purchase. So when there weren't any more available he bought the hard top version.
This is one of his lesser known cars, but don't let that detract from the fact that this is still, to this day, one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
The gavel came down on this car for $10,000,000. Sold by Vern Schuppan to an undisclosed buyer this car is guaranteed to survive the generations and keep the McQueen legend alive.
Auctioned off by RM Auctions in Monterey on August 16th 2014.
    more details here: bit.ly/McQueenFerrari
Fun fact: one of the previous owners of this car had the roof cut off and the car painted yellow. The Ferrari factory in Italy brought it back to its original condition, as when McQueen owned it.

I almost fell out of my seat when I saw your video about Steve McQueen's car. I was the towtruck driver that responded to McQueen's accident on the Pacific Coast Hwy on that Sunday afternoon, when an elderly woman rear-ended him, shoving his car into the car in front of him. I had to dolly tow the car because all four tires were rubbing from the damage caused by the accident. McQueen had me tow it to a gas station on Sunset Blvd. He was really pissed. He told me it was the first time he had driven the car and had no insurance on it. I was eighteen years old and have been telling people for many years about that day and now I have proof that I was telling the truth. It should have been in early 1968.

Fantastic tribute. What a legend. Both the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 and the Man - Steve Mcqueen.
LOVED the music and imagery in this piece. Major thumbs up to all involved and thanks for posting.

Great editing and camera work throughout. It's refreshing to see someone who knows how to bring the cars to life. The work you've done on the Jurassic Park RV suits it as well. More run and gun but it fits. Thank you for not only the cars but for the stories as well.

Matt Maran Motoring, there were two identical '68 390 GT Mustangs in the Bullitt movie. One the stunt car and the other the driver show car that still exists today was it was when the movie was completed. It sold at auction for $3.47 million and will remain unrestored.

The most beautiful car i have ever seen, that colour is spectacular really shows off that beautiful pininfarina styling. Well worth the $10.175 it sold for.

The first "modern" Ferrari. I love the 50s and 60s F1 and sports cars Ferrari made to me they are the real cars everything after is a continuation of the fairytale. I was lucky enough to have been driven in a 250 TDF and 275 single cam a 512 and driven a 308gt4 a few times till my my dying day I love Ferrari. Motto Bella regazi Forza Ferrari.

I met Steve's relative in Corsicana Tx when I was young we went to his house when the man opened the door
I almost feinted because he was a double image of Steve I mean looked exactly like him only older...
He was so cool also and I was just a kid who was with his Mom at a funeral there. I think they took me there so
that my memory was not of something kinda scary for a child you know... I knew the lady who passed also Ruby Senor
she sang opera and was very kind to my Mother in life... I have this dictionary and when you look up cool Steve McQueen's picture is next too it... I grew up in Houston and knew someone that worked at Forrestals Ferrari and right out of high school got to ride in some of the most rare ones in the world.. I sat in George Harrisons P3 which had steering wheel in center with two seats either side the one on the anthology video.! also John Meechum had a huge private collection full race 512 bb and full race daytona which I got to ride home in.... a one of a kind Ferrari which was light silver blue with dark blue interior with matching luggage the owner told us to drive it but if we wrecked it that he would kill us.. On the way out too the meet that 512 full race boxer roared by us at about 170 on the freeway and scared us out of our skins highway patrol was chasing that one and never caught him.. came looking at the place we were going too and we had hidden that car off in a building and they could not find it...! :) I bet that made McQueen smile... Part of the getaway was filmed in San Marcos Tx at the river near the old ice factory..

I came to the sunshine state in 1976. Before coming I saw an advertisement for a mid- to late '60s 275 GTB. I remember very accurately how I felt about the shape and aura of this motorcar. It was listed for $12,500.... But at that time and age in my life it just as well may have been $125,000 in early '70s dollars. Suffice it to say that I had to pass. But had I known what the prices would be in the future, I would have somehow made it mine. It's still as beautiful as I remember it, but infinitely more dollars to possess. Long live the 275GTB!

My grandfather had one of these (San Jose). I think he bought in '70 or '71. I was lucky enough to drive it in 1982 for about one hour, and spent many more hours in it on the weekends. He also had a '73 or '74 365.

It's amazing to me that his Ferrari 275 GTB/4 restored by Ferrari in Italy, sold for only $10 million dollars (with commission) while his tiny little Rolex watch, Daytona model sold for $18 million dollars, a watch that he had given away to an associate, he hardly ever even wore it, It was engraved however. What the F***!!!!

While these films are nice enough, I can't for the life of me understand why it is that the people making the movie drown out the sound of the engine with music. On cars like these, the only music needed is the sound of that engine racing up and down through the gears...

Abdulrhman Bahashwan the whole point is the story of the legend not the car. The car is a way to tell his story. You want to know about a 275 just go to Petrolicious. We're about human stories here at tA. Cars are a way to learn about each other through a shared passion.
