I remember when the 66 came out. Yes, the side trim was for 66 and older. As for the door handles, in this country, (United States), we got those door handles in 1960, or at least similar looking ones. 1967 did introduce the round push buttons, but I have seen 67s with square push buttons. The flip-out windows were an option, not standard equipment. In this country, we didn't get the 4-way turn indicator until 67. The 67 had those same trim strips on the inside door panels. We in this country didn't get the dash-mounted ignition switch until the 68 cars.
Hi James, good to hear the differences between the country’s at that time period, information here tends to say that America got the new advancements first and then we eventually got them, thanks for your input James, it helps everyone on here. Best wishes buddy.🤙🍻☘️

Question: There is wiring coming from the front trunk area down to the front firewall, then to the outside of the car. Where does that wiring go from there?
Hi maldon, sorry about the delay the wire loom runs from the front down along the side of the car it goes to the regulator also the battery wires and then ends up in the engine bay, coil carb ,etc.hope this helps.👌
Here in the US 65 are the seats are one year only...they're then first seats with the shinny seat back and last year of the white seat frames. 66 was the first year of the black seat frames
Hi Joe A couple of editions Red and white heater knobs one year only Grey bumper irons Interior seat covers weave in middle plain sides And I think your door handles maybe 67 66 were round button Cheers mark
Here in the USA, my 66 beetle had a chrome enblem on the engine bonnet that read "1300". In 67, the engine bonnet had a bump-out at the license plate light. And I think there was a "Volkswagen" chrome emblem where mine had the "1300". I believe the 67 was also increased to 1,500cc as well as being 12V.
As far as I’m aware joe but I’m open to correction is In Europe Sloping headlights and 12 volt system carried on into 67 model for a time, also 67 model had no knob on the ashtray and some kept the ignition on the dash unless they had a steering lock fitted. 67 also had a locking engine lid and some came with 1200 engines. As with these being crossover models they came with all or some of these features so the only true identifiers are the chassis number.
@@Joesrustbuckets 67 in the us got 12v and upright headlights plus the 1500 engine but Europe was a different kettle of fish, it like they were running off all the old parts and changing over the machinery from one to the other if you get my drift
All euro bugs had sloping headlights. It was just US that got the new headlights. Australia had pre 65 style bugs as model year 67. The years 65 to 67 had alot of changes.
Hey mate, you should specify your location all your info. It’s great I owned a ‘66. You cannot make a general statement about a ‘66 due to the fact that they differ in England, Mexico and Brazil, I assuming you are in Australia your model matches with the ones in USA 🇺🇸 ( my location). I do have an extra turn signal lever but shipping will be really expensive! 😆
Hey Monchy, I would have thought the shamrock glass was a give away, I don't think the Hazard flashing switch came on 66, i would have thought that came much later on, Cheers buddy.
My Australian 1966 is a 1300 Deluxe with wide 5 wheels and clothes hanger bumpers. It is white with a red interior and black carpet. It also has red sash-only seatbelts, The only thing not original is the current motor as the original one lost its oil pressure after 50 years and needs an overhaul.
@@Joesrustbuckets great channel. My sister has a 62 beetle de Lux wth exactly those door handles except she has like a soap dish back part that tucks into that oval behind the handle
@@Joesrustbuckets the door skin is pressed into a convex oval into which a stainless or chromed metal piece fits. I'll put a picture up and send u the link
Late model 66 beetles got the 67 style door handles with round door locks. My late model 66 has the seam on the handle and is stainless steel.
I noticed you are missing the “unique” knob for the hazard lights, is “one year only! Is a knob the flashes when turned on. It’s really cool!
It was not required in Europe at the time...
Some great info I didn’t know, great stuff Joe👍🏽👌🏼

Thanks for the detailed tour Joe! The adjustable braces are great. Kind of like a waist belt. If you get a heavy load you can stretch out a bit! =)
Great stuff thanks

I like that thicker side chrome trim, looks nice! You definitely have some work ahead of you. I know you’ll get it done.

Lol I forgot as well rear section of headliner is not real perforated it’s printed weird I know
Am following for the Restoration.. since I have a RHD as well.. which I'm planning to restore
Now if you are in Australia 67 was still 6v 5 stud pattern wheels , wide trim fits all. Up to 67
Wide5s here too 🤙
my american market '66 has round buttons on the exterior handles but the seam is identical to the one you have there.

True, you can quickly tell you have '66 with the 1300 emblem, my dad had two 66's in the day.

Great info Joe! The 66 is in pretty good shape minus a little of this and that. Definitely in better shape than the Sickxty I’ve been working on 🤣
you can buy all the reproduction parts you need from several sources !!!!!
