    I am 70 yrs young and every time I get my hair cut it is an extremely bad haircut,Then it takes me months to grow it out. Some of my friends agree with me salons do not want old people in their salons.I do not have the courage to cut my own hair. Rosie I wish I lived near you. You would be the person I go to for a haircut. Thank you for this tutorial.

      search for a person with own business. we have salon studios example( solo salon) they have rooms where owners can rent space for salon services.

      Same here. Turning 66. Sit in the salon chair up to 4 hours for a simple square blunt cut-no texturizing-no layers plus no toner partial highlights.
      Lack of consistency, terrible results and cost=going to Salon only once a year.

    Your explanation is amazing! I have super long hair with several different curl patterns and I need a trim in the worst way. I can’t stand the “v” or oval look in the back, but haven’t been able to find a good DIY blunt tutorial until now. I’m looking forward to trying this - thank you!

    Thank you so much for this! I have been doing a 'V' or 'U' Cut on myself for around 10 years, but PCOS has made my hair look very fine and stragly in the last few years. A blunt cut looks so much better and makes my hair appear way more thick and full than my previous style.

    Yes girl thank you. I been cutting my own hair in a v and U shape for a while but am growing it out so I want it square with no layers. I just haven't done this in a while and I was kicking myself when you showed how you do this because that's how I cut other people's hair. Thanks for the video. 😊❤

    Interesting about looking up to cut it blunt. My husband trims my elbow length hair, and he lets my hair down in 1/2” increments to trim each layer. For the front, he has me turn my head to each side to match it to the back. So it is one length, not longer in the front. I like my ends blunt as well, as layers would leave straggly pieces sticking out of my braids.

      I am very happy with the great results I get every time, my best friend watched him trim my hair one afternoon, asked him a few questions about the technique, as as he finished with my haircut, she said I am next and him him trim about an inch and a half off her midback length hair. She was happy with the results, and she stops by to visit to see me and get her hair trimmed. She likes his work and that she is getting a free haircut.

    I tried it , it looks simple but it's really tricky. You need to be very carefull, and take really small amount hairs at once , also whenever we cut we shall measure it with our hair on the other sides,. I thought I messed up but at last it all came together, but in the process my hair got really shorter than I intended it to be.

    I tried this. It works if you just want a straight cut without caring about thinning the last 2 inches. For me i ended up with noticeable thinner ends than the top. Like how a round painting brush hair feels like. It's a straight cut but not a blunt cut to maintain volume. If you have thin hair you need someone to trim a block blunt cut for you at the back.

    I used to have thick hair until menopause, so I can no longer afford to have layers and I hate the v and u shapes. The only thing that works for me is the blunt straight across cut.
    My hair has always been fragile too, so it doesn’t reach much length before it gets stringy, and that’s what happened. I really didn’t want to lose the length, but the stringies were bugging me, so following this video, I ended up with 5” of hair on the floor 😢, but finally the hair is even and healthier looking.
    The neck can get a bit stiff, but the results are worth it.
    I agree with someone else here who has trouble trusting beauticians.
    My last haircut was in March, and I was staying at a shelter, and we had visits and transportation to and from the beauty school subsidized. The student had me tilt my head down nearly for the entire cut, and it came out looking great, the bluntest cut, and when I returned to the shelter, some jealous young lady said, “Oh, look, it’s Barbie” as I walked by at supper time.
    So while that cut was free, I couldn’t duplicate it myself.
    Now I have somewhere to live and everything is better, but it was time.
    Gotta dye my gray roots next, but another day, because I’m tired.

    • @sophiacromwell8017
      @sophiacromwell8017 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh… yes, I understand how menopause & grey hair can make hair-management very troublesome!! I tend to let mine grow, but it’s turning grey (course) and wavy/curly (sometimes “frizzy”) now - it never looked this“ragged” when it was straight (instead, it was just “flat”). I’m nervous about trying this DIY Hair cut - but how hard can it be, right?! LOL!! ;)
      I hope that you can enjoy the new cut and keep it up going forward in your life - when you feel good about your hair, it seems like “life feels better”. ❤

    • @diatribe5
      @diatribe5 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My hair was straight, flat and boring ( but held what few sets I was given) until I was 12, and then split ends, greasies, dandruff, kinks and serious frizz took over and that never changed…so consider yourself more fortunate that your hair woes began later in life.
      Anyway, this was the second time I’ve used this video and started at the nape hairs, which always get short or just don’t grow, so that’s why, in my efforts to get the see through effect out of the ends, I lost 5” inches of length from the longest parts.
      Next time the strings get to be too much, I will start cutting from the section just about 1”-3” above the nape hairs so I don’t have to sacrifice so much length each time.

    I'm confused. when you turned and tilted your head your fingers didn't move so how is the cut changing?

    • @hairhome7613
      @hairhome7613  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey!! Sorry I missed your comment but thanks for asking. The tilting of the head is what shifts the weight line (the ends of the hair) To see what I’m talking about, pretend you’re cutting you bangs, bring the hair forward brush straight and hold your hair where you intend to “cut” (scissor finger style) now tilt your head ear to shoulder towards the right. You should feel the hair sliding from one side of the bangs. Now bring your head back to center and voilà “side bangs” you should have the hair on the left side of the bang longer than the right. This is what’s happening on the ends of the hair when you look to the side and look up. Alternatively you look down to create a V shape. This is why stylists typically ask you hold your head a certain way for the entirety of a cut or at least part of it. Let me know if that made sense 👍🏽😊

    💯 if you don’t have a lot of hair or want healthier hair cut it straight also if you are using bleach! If you have layers your hair looks extremely damaged cut it straight!! What i like about straight square blunt hairstyles is that when you curl the front it doesn’t make the curl higher then the back … Also if you are a little chubby it hides the side of your back and if you have it long better because it even covers your chubby arms. People who I don’t recommend is if you have short hair and have a square back with no waist DON’T DO IT but if you have it long yes, but not short

    What about side parts???

      You can cut with the side part :) but there will always be a little bit of asymmetry when cutting with a side part depending on how your hairline grows. To disguise this don’t go for too sharp of a square shape on the heavier side.

    If I normally wear a side part, would I want to keep a side part while doing this haircut or should I part it in the middle? If parted in the middle, wouldn’t it look weird after when I switch it back to a side part?

      Yes you could keep the side part if you would like a more symmetrical look but you may still have a slight variation in the length on the heavy side. If that happens just don’t look up as much when trimming the sections from the ear forward. Side parts are tricky haha and no it wouldn’t look funny when you switch it back. If you wear both parts always choose the middle for cutting

    i hope someone sees this before i end up doing it tonight... lol.. so i have long hair that ends at my waist/butt. i want it at least 4 inches shorter , maybe 5. i always used to cut my hair back then but it would always come out as a V shape. and i've been wanting a straight across blunt just like this video. i have fine hair but i also get told i have a lot of it? lol whatever that means? soooo with that being said, since i have fine hair, could i do this just with all of my hair down? or do i have to section it? bc i do have one little section of ONE layer (at my armpit) and i don't want it that short 😅 i know it wouldn't be a complete straight across bc of that little layer but i at least want the rest to be.. if that's possible?
    anyways lol so yeah would i have to section it? i'm scared to section it wrong and mess it up. i tried the other night and only snipped off not even half an inch and just stopped bc i was so nervous 🥲 any advice or input would be appreciated! sorry for the novel lol

    So I just attempted this, and something I didn’t realize is making sure your fingers holding the hair taut are parallel with the floor 😭
