My bf used this video to cut all my dead ombre off and my hair looks amazing! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! Now I can live out the rest of this quarantine with some dignity.
I like the fact that you're sharing tips with the general public.. I've always felt like competing instead of sharing holds us back in business and in life
I just wanted to come back and thank you for this tutorial. I made my mom watch it and cut my hair after. I had really bad dead ends and I love how my hair looks like now. You have the best tutorial on TH-cam and it’s so easy to follow. You’re a great teacher ❤️
you're an amazing teacher. the cut was fairly simple to follow. while my precision was not as good as yours, the haircut still turned out super good! my mum's so happy!! thank you ✨
You're a star for doing these videos. I do not think it takes away from stylists at all, because I see what the difficulties are and where the routine of doing it daily is needed, so I appreciate my stylist much more after this!
Have you ever considered teaching? I saved this video to watch today after we did zero elevations and this was super helpful for me. I feel like it was a great compliment to my education and I understand it even more now!
Honestly, this is a fantastic video! I’ve used this as a tutorial to cut my wife’s hair (i’m a dude) multiple times over the past few years. Simple and easy!
You are a great teacher. I am a beginner and trying to learn to cut and style hair. Your teaching style is perfect for people like me. I think you need to do more hair cutting and styling videos because you keep it simple, quick and easy.
Oh man I love the fact that you are so humble , not a lot of people think about others in situations like these. Even though I only do nails I love watching your videos ♥️
Okay the wife has been wanting me to cur her hair but I have been super cautious about it. We watched your video today and I think I can do this! Ordered supplies and we are goin to give it a go. You are really a great teacher thanks!
This is a great tutorial. Very similar to the technique that my husband (not a licensed stylist) uses to cut my hair. He has me sit on the stool, he capes me and combs out my hair. He cuts my hair dry, but he has cut hair wet as well. He does the sectioning exactly like you did, except he pins up the hair on the sides rather than leave it down. He starts in the back and lets my thick hair down in 1/2” increments to trim the first layer and successive layer with my head tilted forward. He sits on a chair so that the area he is cutting is eye level for him. When he gets up to where my hair in back is at the same level as the sides, he will have me turn my head to the side, and he will trim the bottom section to match the back. He then checks the evenness holding both sides under my chin. It takes him about twenty minutes to trim my elbow length hair using this process. My best friend visited to watch him give me a haircut as she wanted to see his process, she was impressed, she complimented his work and then said, “I’m next!” She likes the job he does on her hair, so she has continued to have him trim her hair. She also likes that she is getting free haircuts. He invested in a good quality pair of Japanese steel hair shears, hair clips, wide tooth and sectioning combs as well as a nylon hair cape. I would not have let him near my hair the first time if he pulled out a pair of kitchen shears.
You’re videos have motivated me so much. Hair is my passion, I recently started Cosmo, but been following you for a while, just came across you haircuts and I tank you so much for them and all the rest of your videos. And congrats on your merch. Love it.
Amazing! As easy as I thought it would be! Going to have my granddaughter cut my locks! THANK YOU! I’ve had my shots but Texans are stubborn! Only about 1/3 have had theirs! So, I still stay home! 🌹
Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you! I just did this on myself following your instructions to the letter, it looks awesome! The hairdresser always cuts the front too short so it's great to have a blunt a-line with the exact length I like. I'm so happy although almost had a breakdown trying to get even, smaller partings! You rock, thank you so much x
been looking for blunt hair cutting tutorials (to share with my sister lol) and yours will always be one of the most informative and most non-stylist/beginner friendly ones.
Beautiful job. Seeing that you are an expert my hair. My is thinning really bad being diabetic meds etc. What’s your advice. And I am thinking about getting a wig what kind should be ok for 66 years old slim and short 111 lbs. What do you think.?? Thank you
Thank you, I had to cut daughters long, extremely thick knotted hair which had been neglected by dad and followed yr instructions.......not a bad job!!
Hey Sam! I just wanted to let you know that a friend of mine helped me cut my hair by following your exact tutorial step by step! I am very happy with the result:) We did one mistake and one alteration though: - The mistake: while following your tutorial closely, we somehow missed out on that I didn't need to keep my chin down after the lower half of my back section was cut. So the upper half of my back section is a liiittle longer than it needs to be, but that is something that can be remedied with another quick haircut session, I think. (And since I have quite wavy/curly hair, it's not a super obvious mistake.) - Alternation: Instead of cutting the two front/side sections in a straight perfectly horizontal line, I wanted my hair in a lob-style, so she cut the hair of the side/front parts diagonally instead of straight, which resulted in the hair being a bit longer in the front than in the back, which I wanted. We also checked that the transitions from back to front were seamless. So thank you very much for that video! Your explanations made me confident that we could pull this off without it looking too weird and choppy! I've been wanting to get rid of my ridiculously long heavy hair for a while. This was the perfect video. Thank you!:)
Thank you so much for all of your help. But I have a question. The mannequin doesn’t have shoulders so how do we maneuver around shoulders to keep it all the same length?
Thank you!!! I've been meaning to cut the Koolaid out of my daughter's hair and we just can't afford the salon right now. Thank you so much. I am so excited to do this and to feel confident in doing it as well.
My sister cut my hair some days back and it turned out perfectly! We watched a few other vids but it was definitely this one that helped the most!! Thank you so much!! ❤️
I really want to cut my sisters hair, it has to be low maintenance and easy to clean because it is so thick and she needs direct support for her hygiene, which is usually my mum or myself. Thank you so much for helping us, she wants long hair, it’s pretty, ❤ but we were very worried we would have to shave it. I think I can cut it at a bob with these instructions so when we wash it it’s nice and easy to rinse out shampoo/conditioner.
thank u so much for teaching me how to do blunt cut im doing that on thursday and im nervous, and i watch your videos and i love them! and also im a cosmetologist student!!!! thank thank u so much!!!!!!!!!
I'm doing an apprenticeship, don't have much learning other than myself and I'm struggling extremely bad! If you find any helpful videos please let me know also!!
would love to see this cut on a person. shoulders make such a difference when pulling down the sides to cut, would love to see how you work around that :) thank you.
So I took matter into my own hands and chopped my hair but I noticed the front parts are longer can I just cut them straight across one size or will that mess my hair up more than it already is ? 😰
Sam, this is a killer video! My Bluegrass recording artist wife and backup singer to Dolly Parton (Claire Lynch) wants me to give her a blunt cut so she can do some upcoming Zoom appearances. I bought some decent sheers (within my price range) and will continue to review your video before assailing my wife's "do". I'm somewhat nervous, because Claire used to attend a top hairstylist to the Country music world when we still had a house in Nashville. I wonder, seeing as you are so capable and are such a great teacher (I'm a retired Special Education Specialist) whether you might have some videos that help both genders with haircuts for each other in this lockdown malaise ? Personally, I'm transitioning toward a Jack Nicholson look, as the result of balding, and would like tips on how to thin the fat growth over my ears to match the skinny growth now happening--or not happening-- on top. I have had pony tails in the past (full head of hair in the '60s and early '70s) but now, age 69, I want something more elegant and age-appropriate. Any tips ? And can I tip you with some of my wife's music ? (Claire appears in the most recent Dolly biopic on Netflix about 11 minutes from the end, in case you want to see who I'm bragging on). Again, thanks for your amazing video. I have shared it with other house-bound ladies here in Canada who can't get out to "get it done" elsewhere. Rock on, Ma'am !
So I really wanna go to cosmetology school but my head is crooked and I have limited mobility with it so my head is kind of look lopsided. I’m worried this will make it harder for me to make straight lines with things such as hair and nails. Do you think this is something that could be worked through? I really don’t want to give up on my dream, but I’m worried I won’t be able to do it to the best ability.
I'm currently in school and have one more class left. I somewhat feel like I'm nowhere prepared for a career 😔. Did you feel the same way in cosmo school?
Brittany Ann how you feel it totally normal! You will gain more confidence with more experience. You’ve just got to do it! You will always encounter new challenges in this industry and you will never stop learning! That’s part of what makes it fun!
I felt that way too! & when I first got my license and started working, I really struggled. I even had days where I wanted to give up! But keep pushing through because even on bad days or experiences with tough clients, you’ll feel more comfortable and confident. It may take a couple weeks or even a couple months, but it gets better and you will gain confidence!
I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I’m not at all offended by these videos. I think it’s great! Thank you for this!
My bf used this video to cut all my dead ombre off and my hair looks amazing! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! Now I can live out the rest of this quarantine with some dignity.

So refreshing. We need more. I want to share my experiences and help people

I am licensed and needed a trim so I’m using this video to show my husband so he can cut my hair! Thank you!
I really needed this right now! My ends are a nightmare. Can you also please show us how to cut the front pieces so they frame the face?
Thank you for doing this! We definitely need little trims at least to get us by in this time!!

Stand behind them and have them turn their head toward you
@@styledbysamvay makes sense. Thank you!
@@styledbysamvay I was wondering the same thing! Thanks for the info.
Love the ingenuity with the stand 👌🏿
Thank you!!! I've been meaning to cut the Koolaid out of my daughter's hair and we just can't afford the salon right now. Thank you so much. I am so excited to do this and to feel confident in doing it as well.
Thanks Sam! I desperately needed a cut and my husband was able to pull this off with 0 issues!
Hey, thanks for the video! But what if we cut hair with the men's hair clippers (lol) and then fix the ends vertically with scissors?
My sister cut my hair some days back and it turned out perfectly! We watched a few other vids but it was definitely this one that helped the most!! Thank you so much!! ❤️
If the person getting a haircut is standing up do they still have to have their head tilted forward? Tysm great video! ❤️
Yes, you always want to have them tilt their head down while youre cutting, whether they’re sitting or standing!
Nidia Catalan yes absolutely! it helps you in the long run 💕 especially once you check your haircut when dry!
Thank you for sharing these 😁. I don’t plan on cutting my own hair but my husband does need a cut. By any chance will you be doing men’s cuts?
Yes! I'll have a men's haircutting tutorial coming later this week! :)
Sam Vay Awesome! Thank you so much! 😁
Excellent video! Very generous of you to share your knowledge this transparently!!
thank you so much for this omg
I’m new to hair dressing love these they help so much

Can you share a video of how to use a marcel curling iron?? Please ❤️❤️
I honestly don't even know where my marcel is right now :/ I never use it! But when I find it, I can!
thank u so much for teaching me how to do blunt cut im doing that on thursday and im nervous, and i watch your videos and i love them! and also im a cosmetologist student!!!! thank thank u so much!!!!!!!!!
Very cool! I'm trying to grow my hair. I want to highlight it but I don't know how to do that :(... I can't wait to go to a hairstylist.
Yes I would wait! Especially if you want to grow your hair, the last thing you want to do is attempt to highlight it yourself and risk damaging it!!
Can you do a series like this? I’m in school now and I’m really struggling with the basics, I’d love to learn more from you!
I'm doing an apprenticeship, don't have much learning other than myself and I'm struggling extremely bad! If you find any helpful videos please let me know also!!
This tutorial is amazing, I used it as a guide to do a cut and it turned out amazing - thank you!
this is a great beginner friendly tutorial! I'm gonna show my husband and let him trim me up 😬 wish me luck 😆
Can you please tell me are you using camera for video or mobile phone ? And which software is good for video editing 🙏
You are a great teacher
Excellent skill !
This let's you manage the ends for now. I can't wait until I can go back to the salon.
would love to see this cut on a person. shoulders make such a difference when pulling down the sides to cut, would love to see how you work around that :) thank you.
Thank you! I have a wig I want to cut. What lip color are you wearing? 😍🔥
So I took matter into my own hands and chopped my hair but I noticed the front parts are longer can I just cut them straight across one size or will that mess my hair up more than it already is ? 😰
What is the black smudge at the end of the video ? Just a design ?
How do you cut from the side when the length is longer and the shoulders now come into play?
Brilliant and very well explained ❤
God bless you for this girl 💜
I just cut about 8 inches off my daughters hair with this method and she LOVES it! Thank you!!
Thank you! I wish this tutorial was available Tuesday night LOL
This video is great.. Thank you for posting!
Your makeup always looks soooo good 😍
Thank you! :)
Your eye look is so pretty and simple! What eyeshadow did you use? ❤️
Thanks! I used the light orange shade from the Colourpop Orange You Glad palette in my crease and the lightest shade on my lid.
Just a week late Sam, a weeeek! 😭 💕
Thank you though, now I’ll just re-cut it shorter
Hahaahaha sorry!!!! Better late than never though ? :)
SUCCESS ! Thanks again, Sam.
You might wanna do a tutorial on bangs too bc you know that’s what we’ll be doing next 😭
Coming soon!! :)
Thanks! I like this way better than how they try to teach on Cima Milady lol they make it way too complicated
Will this technique work on super long hair. ? I want to take about 2 inches off my daughters hair, but her hair is so long she can almost sit on it.
Thank you so much, we will be in lockdown til end of November. It has been 3 months and still have 2 more to go.
Great vid,,, very informative!
Second time using this over lockdown, thanks again.
Great tutorial!
If it’s a blunt triangle it’s okay to stand with each section, right?
Thank you so much for your lovely tiching ❤
Loved this video! Thank you for sharing!
You’re a great teacher - thank you!
Thanks very informative about this cut
Great video!
Thanks for the tutorial
did i miss out how you cut the back bottom hair?
Thanks for this tutorial… I’m going to try this haircut on my mum now 💇♀️
Thank youuuuu ❤❤
you look sooooo pretty here! 😍😍

Yay! Best way to spend my evening. I love your scrunchie btw
Thank you :)
