That hair is apart of the mannequin, cosmetology schools/cosmetologist use them because they're easier to practice and demonstrate on then just wig that can move around and even come off of tugged too hard. Cutting a wig on your head is hard so it's easier for him to do it this way. That's why you see people style and cut wigs on a stand and not on their own heads.

The best method I’ve seen is probably the same as this but with six little pigtails spaced evenly across your head and no layers unless you’re going for that look. But take it from someone who has done a short cut on themselves several times, making the back even and straight like the front is really hard, the shorter you go the harder it is to see what you are doing even in a mirror and the harder it is to cut it haha

I think if you take your time no matter if it's thin or thick it will turn out better. I put more sections in with the hair ties (7 in fact) it helped me and mine isn't thick. But I also cut mine shorter and angled longer in front. Its better I think.
Maybe the tutorial wasn’t best for people with short hair, but I definitely think you didn’t give it the TLC it needed for a better result. Sections weren’t really even and he did say to do more sections if you have thicker hair. I love your videos but if you’re not gonna put in the full amount of effort to actually give it a fair shot i just think the passive aggressive shade at the end was a pretty unwarranted.

Also did something like a bang on the front but way longer than an actual bang, more like under the chin bangs, they get sorter when curly

I just did this tutorial for myself! Cut 8 inches into a shoulder-skimming bob (going in to cut about an inch and a half/two inches bc it's ever so slightly long for my desires). I sectioned 10 sections; I have relatively thick hair, but also, I just didn't want a single strand overdirected, lol. I was meticulous! And I didn't have to even out anything or make any corrections when I took the sectioning bands out! I can't recommend enough: do a fair few sections, especially in the back! In the back, each half of my hair was in 4 sections, and then I had one section on each front side in front of my shoulders.

I used this tutorial at the beginning of the month. I was really happy with the results. My regularly scheduled haircut appointment for early April was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pause. I have fine hair. I typically don't go any longer than 7 weeks in between cuts because my hair gets damaged so easily. I know to use the proper shears, and to point-cut vs cutting straight across the hair like one would cut paper. BUT I'm so glad I came across Brad's tutorial because I was going to try a tutorial that said to divide the hair into 2 sections. Um, no. That doesn't work - even on fine hair. Thanks for your demo. I think you did well!
As a hairstylist myself, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Brad, however you did a pretty good job with this. I can see a lot of problems that could come out of people doing this themselves.
he did say that you need more sections if you have thicker hair. he also said that it will be easier if there is someone to help you with the back sections - you even saw that your sections were not equal and did nothing to fix it. he is also working on someone with longer hair, where even if the wig was on him, he'd still be able to bring the back to the front and cut it without looking in the mirror, while your hair is much too short for that. and i'm not being shady, i'm just pointing out the things that you seem to have overlooked/omitted.
I tried Brad's tutorial on my hip length, fine and wavy hair. I'm quite conservative in my haircuts as you can imagine so this worked really well on longer hair. Because my hair is wavy cutting it dry and straight made it a little off but he was clear that this is for straight hair so I'm not mad at that. Frankly I love having this option, any reason to avoid the hairdresser :)

I don't understand why women with already long hair feel the need to cut it during isolation... like, you're not looking much different with the extra inch or two.
It's to keep the ends healthy. When you're killing your hair processing and heat styling, your ends break off easier, look worse, and ultimately your hair doesn't look like it's grown as much as someone with healthier hair. STORY TIME: So I tried out Brad's tutorial with my mom. AND I have super thick hair so we split it into 6 sections. When we did that it turned out HORRIBLE!!! ( completly not brads fault its cut the strand werent completly straight and it gave out a layered ugly effect) So my mom tried to fix it all up and it turned out SO SHORT but I love it!!

I tried this method and couldn’t even get the ponytails to lay right. Gave up did it a different ponytail way... still have a slight v in the back but i didn’t cut off much hair and gave up. Now I am just waiting to see a hair stylist. I want a lot more cut off... But at least I left enough hair to have them even it out without taking off more hair than I want. Not sure how much I want cut. I just want some of the dead stuff off. It’s been bleached and is pretty fried but I would look worse bald. So no shaving my head. Even though I probably should.

I have been a licensed hairdresser for more than 35 years, and decided to peruse TH-cam to see what people are putting out there regarding trimming your own hair. Yikes & Wow! Was I in for a shock, and not good! I was very intrigued with your format, as you put up his video while simultaneously following along with his tutorial (Brad Mondo offers excellent videos, all things 'hair'). You have provided an excellent video too, and have explained things in a down to earth, anyone can do it kind of way. You made it simple, thorough (most important part too!) and also enjoyable. The vibrant and beautiful hue of your hair color, combined with the 'thick and straight' base that you're working with, will show every single cut slice and dice on your hair - which makes for an even better demonstration. I do have a thought as to how you could have achieved even better results than you already did. When you began part 2, the layering of the hair - you were suppose to only take off the 'V', which is pretty much right in the center (cutting off the corner), without going deeper, into the rest of it. But personally, I think you did a fantastic job all around, especially teaching the general public. And your hair looked great too. Well done on all fronts!!! As a hairdresser I salute you :)
Love ya Stella but you cannot say you are to lazy/ impatient to do what Brad says properly and then be surprised that it didn't really work. He mentioned that you would need more sections if your hair are on the thicker side. And when you won't put your elastic the same length everywhere how can you expect it will be straight after cut? Haircut done with this tutorial could end up way better if you would put a bit more effort in what you do.
I cut my own bangs using your videos and it doesn't suit me but i don't hate it. I did this because i couldn't get my bday ear piercing and i wanted to do something drastic
I have Mediterranean type curls (3A) and I followed Brad Mondo's video.There were a few sharpy edges which I had to slightly trim to even out between the sections; that may be because I only parted my hair into four sections, whereas with thick and voluminous hair six our eight might have been better. Apart from that, and with the addition of the layering trimming, and of some trimming around the face as shown at the end of his video, the result was not as great as what I usually get at the hairdresser's, but it was really good, almost flawless. Now I feel much better when I walk out of my house! :-D
I think it looks great and you did a great job! I tried this cut too and it worked out well. And you’re right: more sections for thicker hair. I have super thick hair. This is not the most trendy super cute hair cut ever but it is defines great at home cut and a good way to trim things up and make your hair look more kept when you’re stuck in quarantine.

I used this tutorial at the beginning of the month. I was really happy with the results. My regularly scheduled haircut appointment for early April was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pause. I have fine hair. I typically don't go any longer than 7 weeks in between cuts because my hair gets damaged so easily. I know to use the proper shears, and to point-cut vs cutting straight across the hair like one would cut paper. BUT I'm so glad I came across Brad's tutorial because I was going to try a tutorial that said to divide the hair into 2 sections. Um, no. That doesn't work - even on fine hair. Thanks for your demo. I think you did well!
As a hairstylist myself, I’ve never been the biggest fan of Brad, however you did a pretty good job with this. I can see a lot of problems that could come out of people doing this themselves.

I def saw a difference when you did the layering. I’m pretty sure Brad kept it heeeella simple for us simpletons lmfaoo
he did say that you need more sections if you have thicker hair. he also said that it will be easier if there is someone to help you with the back sections - you even saw that your sections were not equal and did nothing to fix it. he is also working on someone with longer hair, where even if the wig was on him, he'd still be able to bring the back to the front and cut it without looking in the mirror, while your hair is much too short for that. and i'm not being shady, i'm just pointing out the things that you seem to have overlooked/omitted.

I tried Brad's tutorial on my hip length, fine and wavy hair. I'm quite conservative in my haircuts as you can imagine so this worked really well on longer hair. Because my hair is wavy cutting it dry and straight made it a little off but he was clear that this is for straight hair so I'm not mad at that. Frankly I love having this option, any reason to avoid the hairdresser :)
I think it turned out well. Thank you for taking the risk and actually showing how difficult this is alone. My hair is super long and I'm debating doing it myself. Seeing it turn out okay on you helped.
I don't understand why women with already long hair feel the need to cut it during isolation... like, you're not looking much different with the extra inch or two.
It's to keep the ends healthy. When you're killing your hair processing and heat styling, your ends break off easier, look worse, and ultimately your hair doesn't look like it's grown as much as someone with healthier hair.
Also, not trying to come off bitchy, but I don't understand why a man (assuming you're a man) is on a beauty thread asking questions about women's beauty practices. 🤔
I just cut my hair following this video since my ends were all broken and I can't go to the salon. I kinda managed to make it look good and fix the ends ^^
I hear Brad mondo wasnt the best hairstylist. He fucked up snitchery's hair by or bleaching it. She had to shave her entire head

you didn't point cut.... start out with a point cut... not a chop.......
STORY TIME: So I tried out Brad's tutorial with my mom. AND I have super thick hair so we split it into 6 sections. When we did that it turned out HORRIBLE!!! ( completly not brads fault its cut the strand werent completly straight and it gave out a layered ugly effect) So my mom tried to fix it all up and it turned out SO SHORT but I love it!!

I tried this method and couldn’t even get the ponytails to lay right. Gave up did it a different ponytail way... still have a slight v in the back but i didn’t cut off much hair and gave up. Now I am just waiting to see a hair stylist. I want a lot more cut off... But at least I left enough hair to have them even it out without taking off more hair than I want. Not sure how much I want cut. I just want some of the dead stuff off. It’s been bleached and is pretty fried but I would look worse bald. So no shaving my head. Even though I probably should.

First time viewer, and I found you absolutely delightful! I have been a licensed hairdresser for more than 35 years, and decided to peruse TH-cam to see what people are putting out there regarding trimming your own hair. Yikes & Wow! Was I in for a shock, and not good! I was very intrigued with your format, as you put up his video while simultaneously following along with his tutorial (Brad Mondo offers excellent videos, all things 'hair'). You have provided an excellent video too, and have explained things in a down to earth, anyone can do it kind of way. You made it simple, thorough (most important part too!) and also enjoyable. The vibrant and beautiful hue of your hair color, combined with the 'thick and straight' base that you're working with, will show every single cut slice and dice on your hair - which makes for an even better demonstration. I do have a thought as to how you could have achieved even better results than you already did. When you began part 2, the layering of the hair - you were suppose to only take off the 'V', which is pretty much right in the center (cutting off the corner), without going deeper, into the rest of it. But personally, I think you did a fantastic job all around, especially teaching the general public. And your hair looked great too. Well done on all fronts!!! As a hairdresser I salute you :)

Love ya Stella but you cannot say you are to lazy/ impatient to do what Brad says properly and then be surprised that it didn't really work. He mentioned that you would need more sections if your hair are on the thicker side. And when you won't put your elastic the same length everywhere how can you expect it will be straight after cut? Haircut done with this tutorial could end up way better if you would put a bit more effort in what you do.

I have Mediterranean type curls (3A) and I followed Brad Mondo's video.There were a few sharpy edges which I had to slightly trim to even out between the sections; that may be because I only parted my hair into four sections, whereas with thick and voluminous hair six our eight might have been better. Apart from that, and with the addition of the layering trimming, and of some trimming around the face as shown at the end of his video, the result was not as great as what I usually get at the hairdresser's, but it was really good, almost flawless. Now I feel much better when I walk out of my house! :-D
I think it looks great and you did a great job! I tried this cut too and it worked out well. And you’re right: more sections for thicker hair. I have super thick hair. This is not the most trendy super cute hair cut ever but it is defines great at home cut and a good way to trim things up and make your hair look more kept when you’re stuck in quarantine.
he did say if you have thicker hair do more sections. I think you will look better if you do 6 sections, but still look good :)

That tutorial is on point if you really pay attention what Brad says on the video and when you put effort in actual cutting process.

I think he should of put it on his own head before cutting so it would litterally be like cutting his own hair. Because doing it on hair that is not on your own head and that you cant see the back of it difficult. He does it on other people all the time its his job so it would be easy for him to do.
