❤ wonderful rendition and other worldly skills, thank you! I was just listening to Keith Jarrett's rendition while I try and recover from chronic fatigue syndrome. CFS sidelined him permanently.😢
Germany 👋😀 Thank you very much. I love your videos, because of the background stories and your lessons. And of course your fantastic playing. After 25 years of not playing piano, last year I bought a piano and since then I play every day and enjoy it very much. This song is my newest discovery in the Real Book and now my favorite. I have so much to learn, but Jazz is like a never ending beautiful journey.
Hi, and welcome back to the piano! I'm glad you're enjoying playing again and that my videos are inspiring. Yes, it's a never ending and beautiful journey!
Thanks. I love how you talk about what you think. This is my new favorite tune. I like it slow with off notes. You do it well. Thanks for showing us again.
Beautifully played, and so many creative ideas. I would love to hear your comments on Kenny Barron's solo style when playing this song with Stan in '91.
Thanks, it's a great tune! Kenny Barron's accompaniment behind Getz was very free, rhythmically, over the underlying steady beat. They were really in sync with one another!
Beautiful! And, aside from the great music, what I really love is how in your comments about what you are playing, you find such a great balance between teaching us the theory using those musician-specific terms ("arpeggiating a polychord") versus more 'accessible' terminology ("a playful phrase"). Love it! I've probably learned more from these last few Journeys Through the Real Book than all my years of trying to understand jazz.
Wonderful playing (as we have come to EXPECT from you!). I noticed that in a few places, you were playing sixths in the left hand...and it worked quite nicely! Thanks, Ron.
This was absolutely stunning! I was recently reunited with my piano after 4 years of living abroad and went back to this song that I used to play in high school - it's my favorite jazz ballad of all time. Thank you so much for your stunning playing, inspiration, and teaching! You've got a new subscriber!
Many thanks for this instructive video on #165. It's given me some ideas for my son on the flügelhorn, and me on my Yamaha C3. I'd be interested to know what make and model pft you use for your videos. Thanks.
What a wonderful tune, I'm trying to learn it... but finding it hard not to sound smooth in the A-7b5 /D7b9 parts. but will work hard on it, comping for a tenor player....Thanks again Ron...
@@rondrotoskeyboardimprov9453 I find learning these great tunes is far more beneficial to my playing than doing geeky scales..really feel like I have achieved something when they are under my fingers.. !!
Thank you! Your playing is so soulful!!
Thanks Gabriel - that's a very nice thing to say!

That's awesome about your improvement, Larry! I had fun with that polychord phrase!

Thanks, David - I'll have to look for that in the video. I wasn't especially thinking of 6ths while playing, but if it happens I'll go with it!

Thanks, Christina, and I'm glad that you and you're piano are back together again! Good luck with your playing :)

I'm glad this is helping you and your son with your music, Dai! The piano is a 1906 Mason and Hamlin Model A grand.

Have fun playing with the tenor player, Glenn! It's a complex tune so it needs time to "sink in." You'll get it!

One of my favorite tunes. Caught Benny at the Jazz Standard a few years back. How erudite!!
He's such a great musician! You're lucky to have heard him live.
That's a long intro...
