Outstanding lesson. Great content taught clearly. I wish all teachers were like that. Your playing reminds me of Bill Evans meets Lyle Mays. Looking forward to the other videos in this series. Thanks.
Noah, it's so highly effective the way you demonstrate inner motion! I especially like that you break it down with a drill that can be done for those inner fingers. I'm still working on a compilation of my seven favorite NK tutorials. For sure this is one of them! 😊🙏🎼🎵😎🎹
@@carlburtonellis Hey, thanks Carl! Really glad to hear that man. Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to come join the discord community / email list. We’ve got lots of free masterclasses happening via zoom!
This video highlights my major problem, what to fix “inside”. The three hand technique is a revelation. I know I’ve heard it being used and said “how do they do that??” Thanks!!
I had never heard of the three hand or inner motion techniques until now, and you explained them so well. Thank you for uploading. This was super helpful. 👍🏽
If you gained immortality, in any way, it would be a gift to all aspiring pianists. You may not be the greatest of all time, but you're definitely in the same room with them. Your lessons are appreciated.
First off congratulations on your feature on the TH-cam Creator round up. It was a great read and stopped me in my tracks as soon as I saw a fellow pianist TH-cam content creator was featured! Excited to check out some of your videos, as well! Keep up the great work 🙏🏾
Outstanding lesson. Simple, , direct, effective, sounds great, and still leaves a lot open for experimentation and creativity. Will be "borrowing" this idea for my own students. :-) Thanks for all your amazing work!
Thanks for teaching me simply and clearly what nobody has ever explained well to me about jazz piano, I'm in a combo right now at my university and this is super useful! (also nice use of the lick at 7:00 hehe)
Hey Noah new subscriber here! You are absolutely incredible! I'm a jazz player of 17 years and so excited for this series to brush up on my playing! P.S. forgot to mention heard you say Upstate New York! Syracuse in the house over here!
HI there I love these and really want to learn the piano! I used to play saxophone so I can read music but do you have any beginner lessons that teach how your hands are supposed to move along and across the piano correctly... so one could build the coordination and dexterity. Then follow along with your lessons?
Don't hate me lol, but I prefer using rootless V converting the ii into a m7b5 (which I guess in that case is actually a rootless dominant7b9) or a full blown diminished, I guess that would sound more dated, since it sort of sounds like I'm jumping in and out of the diminished block chord method
Great vid, thank you Noah. Where would you recomment a good classical piano player to start learning Jazz piano (same way as you played in this video)? There are a lot of new chords, progressions, harmonies, etc, compared to classical piano... Thank you!
Great question! Well I’m sure there are lots of awesome sources but here’s a playlist I put together that might help: th-cam.com/play/PLER1TzE-3yo-50TNZtBeAccX2yfXG717K.html
This series is going to be great. I think I will contact you to be my future piano teacher if you wish because I would like to change my playing style to brand new
Wonderful! I just get familiar with 2 hand ABA/BAB voicing in 251 after practicing for some months. Any etudes availiable to develop the inner motions and 3 hand technique based on this? Thanks.
The voicing first presented for the 2-5-1 where we drop the root for V.... Doesn't this mean we lose the tritone? How does the tension work then and why?
Hey Hector, check out my videos about McCoy Tyner for some great quartal stuff! Also yes there is some toward the end of my Jazz Piano Secrets course and in one of the bonuses laid out nicely.
This has single-handedly transformed my playing
I have a 12 year old daughter that plays piano & I am sure this video will help getting her interested in playing jazz piano.
Underrated TH-camr here.
Man, where was this back when I was in high school! Definitely going to take advantage of this now! Thanks for posting!
