When your AMG breaks down you'll need another bank loan to pay for it to be repaired. The HSV on the other hand is much cheaper to fix. I own a VF GTS Manual and test drove the AMG. The HSV is much more fun if you can drive, The AMG is for business men who cant really put the foot into it in the rain with the traction control off which is when the 'HSV is at its best. By the way, did your misses lock you out of the house this morning and you got dressed out of the Salvos bin up the road.

Since when does 0-100 in under 5 seconds qualify a car to be a Supercar? Surely something like under 4 seconds these days is pretty standard for what you'd really consider a Supercar, and 2 doors? These are performance saloons, not Supercars.
That's incorrect. All cars lose their value, that's true, but performance cars like the GTS don't depreciate by 50% within 5 years. In 2018, a Gen F GTS will probably set you back about 60-70k, depending on kays & condition.
Screw both of them......for half the GTS price you can get a turbo ford falcon. A G6ET would be the best bang for buck car in the world and only a tenth slower then the GTS. I'm another who thinks the vf holdens look terrible!

Looks like buying the AMG was a bad financial decision now that the Bogan Agricultural HSV are now actually fetching more money than the AMG. Doesn't matter to snobby affluent AMG owners it was most likely a tax write off and has since moved on to the latest Euro luxobarge SUV by now and only buys it for the badge.
The Australian Government has screwed up the Australian motor enthusiast, yes we still make the hsv in Australia , but as everyone knows ford and fpv has no closed down and the falcon has discontinued, so at least the government can do is lower the import tax on cars like the amg, because at least in a few years time we can still import cars without a huge price tag

Both really nice cars, for all the merc haters most people forget that they are only ridiculously expensive in Aus. Here in Europe they are just a standard 'premium' car and are mmuch, MUCH cheaper. Only 15-20k pounds difference (roughly 25-35k aud)

That is to intervene with progress. If they wanted to help out, they should help out with education and/or product development instead. So Holden actually could make better products and sell to a broader clientele.
The Merc is $249K because of high Tariffs , once local production ceases & all cars are imported, you'll find Mercs , Beamers , Jags etc around HALF the price or less ! You should be able to pick up one of these 2014 HSV's or similar FPV for around $25-$30K tops in a couple years :)

I start to yawn when I look at those two "supercars" (!). Honestly, a GTS drives by and people hardly notice. It looks like nothing more than a Camry on 'roids. And the merc looks like it's stuck in the late 90's! A black ford GT with silver stripes drives past however, and as much as I cringe to admit it, heads do turn. And it's 7 years old! I think people only hate on fords because they know deep down that they would love one, but are to afraid of what people will think of them. And I reckon that's downright sad.

The current HSV's look sharper than ever (finally), while FPV's continue to look like an aftermarket package gone wrong. FPV's are truly hideous (especially the GT), probably explains why they never had HSV's success. Don't mind the regular Falcon though, it's sleek looks and highly competent chassis are impressive.

Think about this comment, pushrod engines have advantages and they arent particularly bad for any reason on a domestic engine. They are less complicated (fewer parts), cheaper to manufacture, they do not suffer the significant change in timing with chain wear as dohc engines do, The heads come off easier. They offer a significantly smaller size which is important on a 6ltr engine. the weight is situated lower in the car and they weigh less. Im not saying they are better but the simple fact is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a pushrod engine design. This is a common misconception.
Not mention, if the valve and piston do for some reason touch your more likely to bend a push rod and valve rather than total destruction like block damage, head damage, piston, crank, conrod... ect

Well considering it produces the same amount of power as the AMG motor and is only 0.3s slower on a drag strip ,they made a good choice of fitting this engine to the car.
That HSV is a joke. The only good thing is the US made motor, rest is just garbage and the $95k asking price is bloody unreal. With a bit more cash you can get a used German sports car or if you really wanted a plastic box with a V8, just get the SS.

E63 AMG costs $214 000 not $249.000 also the HSV uses lots more fuel

214000 is the base price for the car. You got a lot options and have to pay luxury car tax and stamp duty and more. 249000 sound right to drive away.
