  • I had an amazing time in DK Yoo's seminar this weekend and I thought it would be awesome to ask him a few questions after the seminar about his point o view regarding Wing Chun and what we can do to improve our skills.
    2017 is the year when he has first started touring Europe, and I highly recommend this man's teachings.
    Click the link below to book a seat for Dk Yoo's following seminars in Europe... You won't regret it, I promise:

    the translatiom by the lady was mostly on point, but there are sone things she missed.
    when talking about the pros and cons of wing chun, dk yoo said that wingchun is good when you cannot see clearly around you, if for example it is very dark, or there are multiple opponents and its hard to process all the frantic information quickly, not just if you have bad eyesight.
    with regard to wing chun guard position, it is slow to react to fast opponents who utilise timing tricks like low high feinting, but wing chun is very fast and excels in a close range after initial contact is made.
    with regards to future seminars, he will visit greece after france and italy.

    • @erick7777
      @erick7777 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Falcor, Defender of the Alliance - Hey man didn't you pay attention? He said "painting", not "feinting" (rolls eyes).
      JK man, thanks so much for the additional translation - much appreciated!

      the essence of wing chun guard position is the centre line that goes through the vertical axis of your body. if i have to reframe, it has not a proper guard, as it is based on neutral stance. when you make your steps, you make sure that your core is following automatically. about reaction, we should not forget that wing chun is feminine martial arts, it's not aiming to chase actively the opponent.

    • @mightymeatmonsta
      @mightymeatmonsta 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong! If you hands are out in the center, then HOW can you NOT make contact? We don't fall for feints because our hands are in the center and there is NO WAY IN HELL he is getting through that way.

    • @nstratford9073
      @nstratford9073 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +mightymeatmonsta I think you need to calm down a little bit buddy. I believe the original commenter was further explaining the translation not his/her point of view. So unless you know more about Wing Chun than DK Yoon you just need to read and don't get so defensive. Your ignorance is so ridiculous....it has been absolutely proven that 1 martial art or fighting theology is not the ultimate way and is not completely the only way. Even the very best (and non delusional) "master" of a particular style will be open to learning and absorbing any and all beneficial knowledge.

    At the end of the day, Martial arts is about expressing yourself honestly. When you subribe to a "style"... or even worse someone else's ego... you become a limited expression of yourself. Rather than just a practitioner of a martial art, the ultimate goal is to become a Martial Artist, expressing one's self honestly.

    when dk said something about boxing and being blind or sumthing, made me realize again, they both do have in common in martial arts whether you see or not. they both utilizes fast counters, both have to use feel rather than memorizing, Counter by feeling hands touch in wing chun and feeling jabs or punches touch your gloves, arms, and elbow in boxing while guarding. In boxing just clinch as your getting beat, then you know where the opponent is and fucking swing them arms like a maniac. or am i wrong.... -_-

      DK is a gifted athlete and would do well in the cage if he trained with MMA coaches. Usually when people say they won't compete in UFC because their art is too lethal, it is just an excuse. I simply think DK does not want to be a professional fighter because he does not want to be a professional fighter. He is very skilled and likes what he is doing now.

    DK Yoo is indeed a very skilled martial artist, a fact which derives from all the hard work he has put in. Talent alone doesn't cut it. One thing he failed to realize though, (and how could he not, even people training years in what they think is wing chun don't know of the full extend of it) is that the whole power generating aspect which he emphasizes in his system is, in fact, pure wing chun. Flow, utilize opposing forces to propel power forwards, simply reroute force with nothing but the smallest shift of your body, using your whole body like a spring are all things that are in the core of wing chun. The problem is that the vast majority of people training in wing chun have no idea, or have the most basic of understanding of those things, because these are very advanced stuff, difficult to fully grasp, they take years and years of training. In fact, with a handfull of exceptions, even most of the so called masters don't know about them. Not because Ip Man was cryptic and didn't want to teach the full art or anything as illuminati as that -althought he was a bit of a dick, truth be told, especially with Japaneese people (sorry master)- but simply because they never took the time to dwelve in the style and understand it. They all left before their training was complete, thinking they know. But, if you studied under sifus like Duncan Leung, Allan Lee (R.I.P sifu) or any of their students you understand what i'm talking about. Wing Chun trully is an alive, complete system from all points of view, because it is constantly evolving, incorporating everything new that we find out works in the battlefield and grow beyond that. The most important aspect of Wing Chun is the philosophy behind it. The mathematically structured logic of the shortest distance, the economy of movement, the generation of the maximum crushing power in the smallest amount of time and space and the principle of covering instead of reacting. Nice video, always useful to hear what good martial artists like DK have to say on things.

    Thise guys hes training with are doing wing chun. He's doing systema with a wing chun theme, like making a cheeseburger sushi roll. Check out Kevin secours or Martin wheeler, or check out their former master vlad vasiliev, and do the eye test.
    The reason this fires me up a little is that systema has too much martial arts bullshit magic in it already. It could be the next jujitsu. But this guy is trying to go full down the Asian kung fu parlor tricks route, it seems. I respect his skills deeply, though.

He's a martial arts genius, and one day hopefully I'll study with him; which you have had the opportunity to do. Hats off. But you guys could learn a lot by checking out vlad and Kevin secours, or when li ang (I think) did that wing chun meets systema video. Since that is, of course, what you're looking to do: learn new modes of approaching combat. Systema and WC share a lot in common, I came from the latter to the former, similar to DK. I still play chi sau. Cheers

      oh 100 percent. guy had one real fight in his life in which theres several witness account all saying completely different shit. he was a conceptual martial artist but he was never a fighter. and no, the word of chuck norris or some other kung fu/karate guy doesnt mean shit to me its just words.

      colt harrmon Bruce Lee was very knowledgeable but as a fighter and a fighter alone, he never proved his system worked because he never had a real fight to prove it. just like you will never ever see this guy put up a video of him fighting..do you never ever think to yourself why these guys never put up videos of them fighting pro fighters?? c'mon man

      Mr. Orangeaide a mixture of the bursting techniques with movesets that don't leave you open would be very effective in combat

    • @mr.orangeaide5260
      @mr.orangeaide5260 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      bursting requires one to attack and defend at the same time. if you do that you inherently leave yourself open

    DK yoo is definitely Bruce Lee reincarnated...
    I like his whole philosophy. Most places claim they are "open-minded" but in reality, if you're not down and representing their brand...they want nothing to do with you. I know how that feels. So many times I ran across supposed "open-minded" coaches, only to quickly see that it's just an act. They are like crazed cult members and that's why I don't sign up for martial arts anymore. I decided to just study the theories and principle of application behind any martial arts I come across and leave it at that.
    DK Yoo, seems like he practices what he preaches...which is very rare these days, especially in the Martial Art world...and that's why he is blowing up world wide and people are starting to utter his name. Same as they did Bruce lee...

    what dk yoo teach are nothing new. In fact are even similar to lots of other martial arts. Like he said, he learned from various masters and incorporate into his own style. I kept thinking of one of jacky chan old kung fu movie where he used same technique. Even showed, in one scene how you can smack a paper and tear it (hurt an opponents). I'm actually looking for it on youtube. The story about the investigations of who poisoned the water to kill all the master in a meeting. I forgot the title of that movie. :p
