When I'm not using the handle cold shoe, I actually put a small piece of cloth wire harness tape in the bottom of the angled cold shoe and that worked perfect to snug up the DJI receiver.
thanks for sharing, Keith
Thanks for watching, Peter!
Love the video. Learned a lot ❤
Thanks, Borah!
Nice Video! Great setup.
Thank you Taurus!
Great video Keith...FX30 is def on my list! I just picked up an A7IV so I gotta pace myself! hahaha
It's an awesome little camera, but the A7 IV is a very solid camera as well. I loved mine while it - recently sold it, but would buy it again if I had to!
A7IV is better than the fx30!!! Your next upgrade would be the fx3 or you wait for the a7v
Hi Keith, thank you for this great and useful video. So, if I understand well, you power your FX30 with a USBC cable directly from the FLIXON battery. I avoided to do so as I saw that, for this battery, they idicate : USB-C In/Output: 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/2.2A so I wasn't sure if the output voltage would surely be 5V as the maximum needed by the camera (at least, that's what is writtent on the original USBC charger/AC plug in that came with the camera). DId you do some electrical tests before or use a special cable that limits the voltage ? Also, it is not about the setup but would you know if I can have an image at the same time sent by the HDMI cable for an external monitor and on the camera small screen and where should I go in the MENU to obtain this ? Thank you very much.
Hey Keith… I’ve been tuned in the past few days, checking out your FX30 rig setup… on the smaller one, can you share if the adaptive back for the Átomos Ninja is separate or comes with the monitor, so I can add a battery..
What do you guys think of the FX30 so far? I've been getting great results with mine, especially considering the price
thanks
Sir, stabilization works in Fullframe lences
Hi Keith! Thanks for your tutorials! great work! Hav you noticed that the camera dies before the v-lock is empty?
Seems like charging is slower than consumption. My camera died after 2-3 hours.
Hey - I havent had that happen to me, maybe try another cable? Is your USBC to USBC capable of delivering the 9v 3a to your camera?
*I like the HDMI Condor Blue Coiled makes it easier to store and I don't need a Long One*
Love the coiled cable on smaller builds, nothing to get tangled up
Hey, Keith, so I followed your rig suggestion, and now all my rig parts came in, rig is assembled, and looks, works great ! I just have one simple question : My set up draws power from my FX30 battery first, then, switches to the V-mount battery. Is there a setting where I can prioritize sequence of batteries. I would prefer to have my V-mount powerto be first in line, than camera battery second. Thx !
I would probably just buy a dummy battery and connect that to a d-tap port. On the fx30 and fx3 the battery door can actually be taken off
hey keith , great videos , what do you think about FX30 ? in being an APSc making that kind of difference for video compare to something like A7C mk1 or A7iv?
Hey Resha, thanks for the kind words - I've been loving the FX30, when comparing it to my full frame Sony cinema cameras, I have to use lenses that are faster and wider than I'm used to. Know that rolling shutter can be an issue if the frame is moving around - but other than that it's been great!
do you also use a gimbal too?
It's a wonderful camera, indeed, but honestly I'm a bit spoiled with a7Siii low light capabilities so not feeling like getting a crop sensor. For most people, FX30 should be perfect, but even the A1 to me can't replace the a7SIII in low light, despite thinking of one although I would love a surprise A1 II release soon with all the crazy stuff like higher res LCD, 4-axis filp screen, AI focusing, and the great swipe feature on ZV-E1. Product reveal and other smart features should be on every upcoming alpha camera as well.
Hello Keith, I’ve only ever used full frame lenses on aps-c with canon dslr bodies like 24-105 F4 L on 7D or 80D aside from the full frame bodies. I’m very interested in the fx30 as a first budget friendly Sony film camera to upgrade my game, but I do not want to have to buy lenses twice in order to upgrade later down the line to fx3 or even higher. Will full frame lenses make a lot difference on the fx30. Right now I need the fx30 mainly for online video creation and the fact that it can be used vertical for vertical videos is a plus. If I want an all around lens, is there an alternative to the Sony 24-105 full frame, or will I have to get the sigma 18-105 as an apsc lens while other lenses full frame like primes, and lastly can the 70-200 used on full frame bodies work on the fx30 or will I need an apsc alternative? I like the zoom lens with the zoom rocker on the side seen in your other video, as a broadcast like lenses with internal zoom, I see this is a great lens as well
I mean they all work but there’s a crop to the lens. For my canon r7 it’s 1.6x meaning a 70-200 is a 112-320 full frame equivalent. So I would recommend for the fx30 a 24-70 2.8 or a 50 1.2 the 24-70 will give you some of that range like a 24-105 would give yah
I just bought the fx30. It was between this or the A74. The over heating issues kinda pushed me away from the hybrid. And I’m not a photographer. I pick it up tomorrow. Never had a crop sensor cam
Congrats on the new camera! Love the FX30
@@keith-knittel ok filmed two shoots since yesterday with the fx30. This is a real inexpensive video camera. Coming from a full sensor I didn’t have high expectations. This reminded me of the car a family member passes down. You’re not sure how it’s going to run. Then it turns out to be a great runner! I love the control in post with color grading and the challenges to use lighting. I had to turn off the auto focus. It made me feel like a tourist. Since I’m also a run and gun I’m applying a similar set up.
any affordable shotgun mic for the FX30?pretty pls0- I have the XLR handle
But a question, this 50mm 1.2 turns into a 82.5mm with the crop and the internal estabilization, doesnt it? how do you manage it on the Run and Gun Filmmaking?
Yeah - it's about an 85? Off the top of my head? I love tighter focal lengths for showing details. Just have to slow down and keep the camera as stable as you can. I'm making a "Best lenses for the Sony FX30" video soon that goes into more detail about this!
@@keith-knittel Got it, but for weedings, wouldnt it be better the 20mm and 30mm, cause turns to 32 and 48??
How do you get audio on the car, bike action scene or it's all dubbed in post?
I need to do a video on that! I use a lav mic on the back of the car, but some is dubbed in post if there is too much wind noise
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says ninja V more then once in 60s
What cable did you use to power the camera from vmount
I used a USBC cable to the camera from the vmount's USBC port
How are you getting audio?
I typically use off camera audio - I made an entire video going over that here: th-cam.com/video/pEQ_fNNfbMw/w-d-xo.html
BTS!
Working on it!! Anything in particular you’d like to see?
@@keith-knittel mainly like your camera and lighting set up and positioning on a paid gig and then the end result
@@epicdroneimages1128 thanks for the feedback, that’s what I’m working on, and getting a bts shooter!
