Excellent interview round-up. Would you consider doing a BTS of this video format? I think we need to see more TH-cam professionals talking to each other, but how much work goes into contacting everyone and using their videos to tell your story? What incentives does a smaller TH-cam channel use to work with bigger TH-cam channels like the ones your interviewing?

Thanks for the video Kofi. Im with Moji. I have the Fx3 and a couple 6k pros and everything he said about the BM image is exactly what I feel when I grade the FX3. It takes a lot to get the image to look good, but its still missing that"umf" compared to black magic.
Yeah I can’t even try to deny the Ursa image , but for my work the fx6 is the only reasonable choice for me
This was awesome and informative! I’m excited by the fact that the Sonys are luring so many influential creators. Not because I plan to buy or own the Sony, but because competition breeds great products. I’m hopeful canon will have a solid challenger with their rumored canon c200 mkii. If canon doesn’t have something compelling… OOOF.
Currently rocking a c100 mkii for personal doc work. Saving my Pennies for my first major cinema camera and the options are really heating up!

It has to be insane filming with such great folks! I cannot afford to go full into the FX6 yet, but the electronic variable ND is exactly why I keep my FS5MIIs around. For a 1080p workflow, it is not a bad camera still. Unless you need auto focus. The FX6 is nice.

I haven't been excited about buying a camera since the Sony FS100. Now I have the FX6 for a year and half and recently FX30 as Bcam and they're almost flawless.
For audio, I wouldn't want an XLR input on the body. I think it's enough if it had a hot-shoe on the body that would let us use the SMAD-P3 and similar devices on it without the handle.

We got one FX6 right at the release, within a month. Right after it ordered a new one and had to wait 8 months but it was worth the wait. Came from the FS5 but it really is a huge step up.

Good to see all the creators in one space! Nice one Kofi. Personally, To be honest, I have a gripe with Sony because I feel like the the Sonya7siii , FX3, Fx6 and possibly FX9 are the same camera with just different ergonomics! The image is the same and picture look is the exact same! And as an owner of red Komodo, BM 6K/4K and Sonya7siii I’m very conflicted with Sony’s image in comparison to other systems!
In my experience I just found the Dynamic range and colour science on Sony doesn’t touch BM and Komodo yet! At this price point they have. And I was sadly disappointed when I rented out an fx6 and found that I got the same if not similar image to my sony7siii, granted with additional nice to haves like internal ND’s I just found the stops to. It be enough than my variable ND that I had on the Sonya7siii. Also I feel I have to a bit hater to get a much cinematic image on post that is simply a breeze on Redcode raw and BRAW. I mostly shoot commercials, music videos and brand stories and the FX6 was basically not better than the a7siii at all. I think the camera is way overhyped for workflow in what gives you image wise! But hey different strokes for different folks.
Everyone can have an opinion honestly, I like my Cine ei, built in NDs, XLR audio, button layouts and the form factor that I like for my run and gun doc style, and I’ve learned to make the images I want out of it look pretty good ( in my opinion at least) had the Komodo , for me juice wasn’t worth the squeeze, and I work with a ton of fitness and athleisure and some shots I NEED auto focus (by need I mean it’s much more inconvenient manually focusing for some things)

Great vid. I have been on the fence for a while. I have the fx9 and a7siii. Which works great together. I don’t 36:45 want to sell my fx9 but I believe mark ii will drop soon and I’m worried it will kill the resale value of the fx9. Considering selling now and getting fx6 till new camera drops.

I've had my FX6 since it came out and it's a workhorse. People are super quick to say it's the same as an FX3 or A7siii but if you've used it you just know that it hits different.
Honestly had both the fx3 and fx6 at the same time, I agree there are subtle differences for sure !
Great video. As soon a the FX6 was announced I immediately preordered it and was one of the lucky few who's had it for years now. I definitely think it's close to the most perfect camera for me ever made. There's one HUGE feature I feel it's missing though and I was surprised no one mentioned it in what they'd like to see in the MKII: Anamorphic Features would make it perfect in my opinion. I know Sony will probably never do it, but BlackMagic and Panasonic have been anamorphic desqueeze options forever and ability to shoot in different aspect ratios like 3:2, 6:5, 4:3, etc. Even Canon I believe is now offering these options. I don't think Sony would do it, but If they had a 3:2 or 4:3 native 6K sensor in the MKII with some desqueeze options, and even possibly Open Gate Shooting, I think it would be perfect for me.
I wish they did, but i doubt we'll see a Mk2 for at least another year so lets see!

Coming from the FS5m2, the form factor, ergonomics, RAW out (without a massive add on) is a no brainer. The FX6 is the ultimate versatile cinema camera Swiss Army knife and perfect for solo shooters who need to be jamming in different environments and setups.
same. coming from fs5m2 myself and just upgraded to fx6 a couple weeks ago. so far i'm loving it's capabilities.
i sold my fx6 and always had a hate love relationship with it... i miss some features but overall my new camera makes so much happier
Fair play for getting a range of opinions from TH-cam. Held out with my c200 as long as I could before submitting to the c70. It solved all my headaches but the image can be a little boring compared to the c200 raw. The ballache of switching to Sony lenses is too much to draw me to the fx6 and I’ve not really seen images that surpass the canon cameras. The image from the Ursa or the Komodo could sway me from my boredom though. Or maybe I just focus on making better work 😅

Most common wants for the M2: audio input on the body and stabilization. I keep my FS5 for an extra year or 2 cause the availability of getting an FX6. I would bet we'd see a new FX9 before we see another FX6.
I agree, it came out in that order so it would make sense that the fx9 ii would be before the fx6
I work in wildlife and i prefer it over the REDs that dominate the natural history industry. There are cons such as no crop-ability for reframing from 4k, and there are a lot of buttons and switches to get in the way on the outside (reds are wonderfully simple when climbing in trees, on cliffs, etc.). But the pros outweigh the cons 10x fold. Mostly price and the data size. Ill save enough just in data storage to buy 3 more fx6s. Also better weather sealing i feel like. Oh and obviously low light capabilities. Animals love being active in dusk or dawn.
Edit- I totally agree with Moji. I have used the ursa12k a bunch and I LOVE the workflow with Braw and davinci. The menu system is deliciously simple and the data is cheap. BUT.... it doesnt hold up physically. We have had the usb-c input for data go out 3 times in one year and still doesnt work, and it flips out in sub zero temps.

Amazing video. Thanks a lot for all the effort into this mega review! I have the a7SIII so the natural second body should be an a7iv, a7Rv, or an a1 as a proper "hybrid" camera that can shoot large resolution photos. FX6 looks enticing with the internal eVND when I wanna higher someone I don't really trust his judgement in using VND's properly for weddings going outdoors to indoors. An a1 wounds good but for that much money I would love 8K@60fps with faster sensor readout to make 8K a viable option for wildlife filmmaking and others. In 4K the a1 is just perfect and most of the time better than a7SIII/FX3/FX6 to me due to that crop mode + with 1.5x CIZ that could make a 600mm lens into 1200mm with very good image at 60fps. a7iv can do the same but the sensor is kinda slow coming from an 8.7ms a7SIII while a1 is respectfully around 15ms.
Yeah Sony doesn’t hold back with the options aha

I used the FX6 and I love it for run-n-gun and documentary recording. But with the released of the a7RV, I'm going to wait it out for the future FX6-II. A lot of new innovation features were on the A7RV and will likely be brought to the future FX6-II. It'll definitely cost more as well, I'm guessing $7,000 usd. But will totally be worth it. Im predicting a 2024 release date for the future FX6-II!

Same. Sony has been releasing much faster than ever before. I've got the FX3 which has 4K Long GOP 10-bit Log... which the FX6 does NOT have. I'll be waiting for the FX6-II.
@@KofiYeboah true that! end of 2024 could be it. With the FX6 sales still going strong, Sony will likely ride it out until next year. Hopefully they are listening to customers' feedbacks and make the future FX6-ii far better than its predecessor
@@skymakai Yea, sony sucks at updating their firmwares as they are slow to it. Same with teh FX3, i thought about getting a 2nd body but I am going to wait it out as well. Wait for a future FX3-ii as I do want that flip/tilt screen as it will make video recording much easier.

Very interesting video! One thing that i find a bit confusing is when Alexandru says tha the bayer sensor uses two pixel to render a color in the final image so 4k will be 2.7K actual resolution..., wouldn't that be 2k resolution. Also not all bayer sensors are the same. This made me look into the subject with more detail.., good stuff to know in theroy.
Does anyone here remember the Sony Betacam.? Basically its has all of the features of the FX6 but it was not considered a cinema camera. Anything can be a cinema camera if it is projected in a theatre, so what is the point of that title in 2023?

I been sleeping on Blackmagic after the Cinema 4k because of the low light and AF. They are seriously dummy proof with the menu system. That's right. Plus if you have Canon EF lenses; it's an easy transition.
I think one pointer that is extremely lacking is the extreme low light capabilities that come from this camera.
I've shot at 1AM making the night look like day at 100K up to 200K ISO and it is relatively good and controllable in post for denoising.

I have the FX6 and the FX3 and I tend to use the FX3 more often. 99% of the FX6 but much smaller. I do miss the VND on the 3 though.

Is the variable ND filter a sucky double polarizer setup? if so, I'd prefer a 4 step ND hard stop system like an old news camera.

I am switching to the FX six from the C-7 for the same reasons that you did. I filmed a concert and a play both in low light and the camera cannot keep up. Also when it comes to filming sports, I’m not a big fan of the autofocus and the image it makes. I did love love my see you 200 for the same reasons you did. But I’ve been other day filming and raw. All the time is not sustainable and eight bit it’s just not the way for me right now. I’m getting the FX6 with a 24105 at for Lens and then going to build up my kit from their.

P.S: I don't know why but im happy that both big and smaller creators here on TH-cam did this collaboration. I'm not a youtuber but I enjoy knowing most filmmaking creators are willing to help each other out. The content of this channel is top notch, I'm 100% sure that exponential growth is soon to come

I am a Sony guy...but I admit there is something about the Blackmagic colours..even though TH-cam on my BenqQ 10bit..the Blackmagic seems to have some kind of quality to it..

Thank you! I know you’re a busy man but need a sanity check. I love love my Fx-30 and am wondering if my money is better spent getting another FX-30 (6K downsampled 4K vs 4k on the FX-3) and with the money saved getting some fast glass praying that ISO 2500 plus fast glass saves my butt in documentary low light situations. My ecosystem is cheaper crop sensor glass currently.
My work is largely corporate interviews and commercial fitness vid/instructional, and the passion projects are documentary
I really appreciated this video! I shoot on Canon (R3 and R5C). No doubt, Sony is doing great things!. Like Damien, I'm too invested in one direction to make casual switches. I do believe Canon will respond with some new Camera's-- we will see what the landscape looks like in 6 months to a year. :)
End of the day like ALL cameras are good now it’s hard to really be upset with what you have
@@KofiYeboah for sure! one of the reasons I stick with Canon after 11 years- I have gone through so many random issues and trouble shoots that I now know how to navigate. I know the menu’s and all the little quirks of the OS. Years of years experience that plays a huge part in the efficiency of my workflow. If I switched systems, yes I would probably be fine-but I value all the experience. I’m confident on set no issue will arise that I don’t have a solution. canon is behind currently, but they will catch up. It’s interesting when people switch systems. I find it fascinating different workflows and what not-But when people switch all the time or switch back to a brand they left 6 months ago, personally, it’s hard to take that crowd seriously.
