- In this video, we share how much money TH-cam paid us after our first 6 months of being monetised with approximately 1500 Subscribers.
In August 2022, after one year and three days, we became eligible to join the TH-cam Partner Program and monetise our videos.
This video shows our statistics over the first 6 months of monetisation.
We take you through our story of our journey into becoming monetised on TH-cam and take you through step by step and month by month exactly how much TH-cam paid us over that time.
If you're a channel of similar size to us, if you've recently become monetised or if you are near that point, we hope you will find this video of some interest and give you a better understanding of the type of amount of money that TH-cam is likely to pay out on your videos.
We are primarily a travel channel, not a financial advice channel, but we thought that this topic of How Much TH-cam Paid Us would be of interest to some. If it isn't, then maybe check out our travel vlogs instead.
In 6 months time, we will do a follow up to see how the second 6 months compares to the first 6 months of being paid by TH-cam.

Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint TH-cam channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. Always good to hear how others experience their TH-cam journey. I never joined the party for the money aspect as I had no idea anyone would want to watch "an old lady" making videos. I wanted to share my experiences with family and friends abroad. Mind you, I'd not turn any income down you understand 🤪! I'm just happy people watch, subscribe ( less happy when they unsubscribe a day later), and leave comments telling me what they enjoyed watching. I think I've been following you guys from day one ( though don't blame "an old lady's" memory if it isn't totally accurate 😋. I loved the Rhyl video- as I'd been there and liked Rhyl. I hope to make a Wales or two video myself again one day, to replace those made in my early TH-cam career LOL! Love you guys, Have fun, travel safe and keep laughing. Ah thanks Anita. It certainly is an unpredictable ride and yes those subs that disappear the day after they’ve subscribed are annoying. Like you though were in it for the memories. It is nice to get a small deposit in the bank every couple of months though! Your family in New Zealand must be so grateful for your videos and to be able to keep up with your life. We're so happy to report that we no longer have to work since becoming monetized about a month later than you! 😁😁 Of course you have to ignore the fact we no longer did and the Pensions & Social Security come in handy! 🤣🤣The YT income? A lunch once a month. (Nothing fancy.) Rachels favorite of McDonalds works out well! Interesting video. I think the big money comes next year! Until that we just keep having fun.

I love these type of videos and the youtube algorithm knows it too! It recommends a whole of of channels I've never even heard of who have a 'what youtube paid me' video. Yours was really good because it gives a realistic account of the kind of money you make when you first get monetised. I've seen a few travel youtubers who are working towards the magic monetisation numbers stating their goals for the year which include the 1000 subscribers so they can finally make money and that can pay for their expenses. I'm sure many are disappointed to find out their first payments won't even cover their epidemic sound subscription!
We wanted to be honest as we’ve seen so many varying accounts of what to expect! Yep, it just about lays your epidemic monthly fee 🤣. We’re enjoying the process though so much. Cheers for watching 🍻

Interesting video, we found December, certainly from end of the first week to the last week was terrible, it virtually stopped! It’s all good learning I think this year going to keep it lean in the middle of December - have to of course do some form of Christmas special :)

Very interesting to compare your channel stats with mine. You've done well to be monetised so quickly. After three years, I have some catching up to do for monetisation. There isn't any big money for 99% of channels, but as you say, it's making memories, which we share.

Love these kind of videos, they always do well on TH-cam. Yes we had that a couple of great videos that got us 4000 hours back in December 2021, then in January 2023 i dropped to do under 3000. Back on track now with the occasional walking tour to boost the hours. Very good going on your route to monetisation. Great info guys, learnt a lot from this. Nice pay days every two months. Great frank retelling of your income! Such great memories and holiday videos, think your right people will watch your Holiday videos on the lead up to this years Christmas Market. Great idea to do this every six and twelve months. Go Wrexham and the Reynolds. Such an enjoyable experience, get up and go out, Ibiza perhaps? You crazy raver cats. ❤

It’s not loads but it is something. To be honest we’re on it for the memories (and we’re in Ibiza for the scenery not the clubs!!! Home tomorrow when we’ll be playing TH-cam catch up!!) cheers 🍻
@@PostcardAndAPint what are you doing replying to comments, get out enjoying yourselves, yes i was just pulling your leg about the clubbing thing! Think someone explained it in quite simple terms once that, im forgetting, it worked out something like £10 per 1000 hours viewed which seems to fit more or less with the far more detailed explanation and breakdown you’ve given. Yes these kinds of videos are very helpful, with some channels doing nothing other than breakdown every bit of youtube and get 1000s of views in the process. I hope this one does that for you as it is very helpful and i’ll probably keep a record and do the same when that fateful day eventually arrives! ❤

Well done, the first hurdle was getting monetized. It's definitely awesome getting paid to do what you love but even without the money, I too would still keep doing it because I enjoy it. The creativity, the adventures etc are all worth it. Again congrats and to higher income 💪💪. I have been following you guys for a long time and it's great seeing your growth.

50 bucks a month isn't too bad. That is an outstanding base to build on. In a couple years we won't know you. Seriously, we'll say hi and you'll be all hudafug r u? Are you pewdiepie? Because we don't associate with anybody with less than a million subs. But really really, congratulations for getting to where you are. It couldn't be more deserved. I'd still watch you even if you still only had 300 subs. But I am so tickled that you have become Wales' favourite vlogging duo.
Fascinating video too. I love all this numbers stuff. You've managed to hit that elusive goal - consistency. Sure, your numbers fluctuate a bit, but they're mostly climbing onwards and upwards. Superb watch hours but you didn't mention your subscriber growth - about 80 to 100 per month which is excellent. That will just keep growing too. It's a hard gig to get to where you are. I've picked up a couple of hundred subs in a month before and nailed 4000 watch hours maybe 3 times - even hit over 6000 at one point (currently under 2K watch hours and, checks notes, 1 sub this month😂). But I haven't managed your trick - putting out consistently great content. I like what I do, and I mostly do it for fun, but you two... just keep doing what you're doing. I love it. 😍🤩
Hahaha I don’t think so!! We’re made up to get anything at all, but we love these type of videos and they vary so much (usually high earners if you’re attractive young and will show your bits!!). We probably should have put our subs - we go through phases of loads and then it stands still for a while. We seriously love your channel and your videos. Bloody hell 6000 hours of watch time in 365 - that’s amazing! We like your sense of humour and editing style. We hope you get more time in future to dedicate to it. We made a commitment to a year, but we’re both stubborn buggers and won’t miss a week, even when we’re drowning in work!! We’ll let you park your yacht next to ours when we’re all up at the 1M mark!! Super interesting breakdown! We got monetized earlier this month. It's fun number watching, but also kind of sad. Hahaha. We also have random videos with super high RPM's, and then some that you'd THINK would have a good RPM ends up being one of the worst. 😂
We also had our watch hours much faster than our subscribers. We actually doubled the required watch hours before getting the 1000 subs. We had one video as well that pushed it- and would have made us decent money had we been monetized. Naturally, it's now dead and getting no more views. 🤣
Still looking forward to seeing what the future brings.

Always a joy to see you and a very interesting look into the way TH-cam 'finances' (what a rip off) it's creators. As an experiment, you may wish to place your next vlog at minus x2 speed, take a moment at the start to explain the gear icon and how to bring it back to normal speed, this will double your watch time with little to no effort and I am sure that it will be no bother for the faithful. I also believe that watching to the end is very important as it affects it's distribution, this is why Wills's ( that looks weird) joke at the end is an important addition, perhaps make a point of building it up to encourage that full view.

Great job explaining how this all works. One of the best explanations we heard. Is it so interesting, you make a great video that you really love and then nothing. Glad I'm not the only one. We do not plan on monetizing if we every get to that point (in about 7 years at current rate)

One of the 'big' travel youtubers I watch, also does periodic liveshows where he gives an insight into the business side of youtube, (his day job is a marketing professor at an US university, so marketing is really his thing) Last year he talked about how views on travel channels all drop once the northern summer is over. Come Oct/Nov/Dec people aren't really planning any travel and so don't really go searching for travel channels. (It's the lifestyle channels that make the big bucks, especially in Nov and Dec as they're selling leading up to Christmas) So he plans each year to have 'lesser' more sacrificial videos on during those months and leaving the more labour intensive ones for January onwards which is when people are looking for travel videos. Another thing that impacts adsense is where your audience is watching from. Views from the US bring in more adsense than views from Singapore, sorry my Australian view isn't worth much either! (adsense wise!!)
That’s so interesting. We assumed that advertisers would be gearing up for the Christmas period, but that does make sense about the lifestyle channels. The Christmas video that did well from the wheat before started gaining traction in October and was pretty consistent all of October and November - hopefully that will happen this year. @@MagentaOtterTravels Yes it's Mark Wolters, every now and then in his live shows he'll talk about some of the behind the scenes parts of having a travel youtube channel. I think that knowing all travel channels loose views in the later part of the year, make it a bit more encouraging for smaller youtubers to keep going. I'm assuming CPS is dependent on population size (and language) so the US CPM is high, more eyes in the ads. The Australian population is quite small internationally so there's a lower CPM. (I've had a travel blog that' was monetized when blogs were all the rage! I get less for an Australian click than I do for a US one)

Are you in any affiliate programs or sponsorships? That could be a good supplement. I’m not monetized, nor do I expect to be any time soon, but it’s been a fun outlet for me, and met lots of great people. But yes, I agree the mid-video adverts are distracting and annoying, and I’ve definitely stopped watching videos that have too many.

My other channel (Andrew Walton Photography) got monetised in April last year - again not in great niche for revenue. I hit the 1000 subs before the 4000 hours. Luckily I had one video which became really popular and got me monetised. I have had 2 £1 superthanks but that is it :D
I too was flying high in August and September.....December and January was brutal too, I think it is the same for most people. I've not handed in my resignation notice either - still love it though😁

Very informative! Do you suggest doing short videos at first to kick start those 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours in 365 days?
To be honest our only advice would be post regularly, engage and keep going. We just did our thing and kept on going. We got lucky with one video, we didn't do anything different, just th algorithm picked us up that week. We know someone who did some shorts, subs went to 10K in no time but long form content was getting really poor views. I think just do what you love doing and keep going. Best of luck 🍻

This was fascinating! When I was first monetised I made about $20 a month. The best month ever was when I had a video quickly blow up and I made $250. Now I'm back in a death spiral and getting about $60-80 a month. It's a crazy ride! 🎢
