    I’m glad to hear that the Resmed machines are safe. I will continue happily using my Airsense 10 Autoset and F20 mask . Resmed is a great Australian company and produce incredible products!

    • @CPAPReviews

      Hi Michael, nice one. Although ResMed claims to have its root's here in Australia i would hardly call it an 'Australian company'. A lot of their stuff now is made in Singapore and abroad and they actually price gouge their Australian customers extremely hard (boarding on extortion!). For example, you can pick up an AirSense10 in the US for around the $550-600 USD mark but in Australia they retail them at $2495 AUD. The masks are also twice the price of the US market. My biggest hate in the history of cpap is the ResMed P10 Strap. It's a small piece of non adjustable elastic and they retail it at $105 It's almost criminal. Great to hear you're happy with the products but i can't let you call them 'Australian'. They're about as Australian as Kim Jong Un. Cheers mate

    • @michaelsmith697

      @@CPAPReviews I understand! The prices are outrageous! I paid $1995.00 for my Autosense 10 Autosense from the retailer who charged extra so to make profit for herself and her business. I could have got it from CPAP online or Resmed etc.. Sleep clinic.. there’s heaps. In any case I didn’t get the service I shipped have with the place I went to. The woman is simply horrible towards me. I will buy future products from a reputable dealer

    • @michaelsmith697
      @michaelsmith697 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CPAPReviews Nick the only reason I thought Resmed was Australian was that my machine has MADE IN AUSTRALIA on it. Now that’s something we HARDLY NEVER see in Australia these days! But I do realise the parts etc and masks are made overseas.

    If you look at a tear-down of the ResMed Airsense 10, you'll see that the foam disk surrounds the perimeter of the turbine intake, whereas on the Philips all the air goes THROUGH the foam. It's a big difference.

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi there, thanks for your insights. To be honest, i imagine ResMed will still probably review the placement of their foam in future devices (all will). It's just not a good look having a piece of chemical foam, exposed and directly in line with the air intake on the turbine. Thank you. Nick

    • @tinetannies4637
      @tinetannies4637 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CPAPReviews Agreed. And the armies of class action lawyers all suddenly reading about foam can't be comforting either ha ha

    • @StrongDreamsWaitHere
      @StrongDreamsWaitHere 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is the foam merely next to the air intake in the Resmed or is ALL the air forced through the foam as in the DS? Your video wasn’t clear.

    • @tinetannies4637
      @tinetannies4637 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@StrongDreamsWaitHere The foam disk on the ResMed is like a motor mount, perhaps used because it has more give than something like a silicone gasket. It doesn't draw air through the foam gasket the way the Philips units do.

    • @kito1san
      @kito1san 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StrongDreamsWaitHere I just open mine to check on the foam. It's right on top of the air intake on the turbine. Gets hold down with some plastic spikes that is part of the cover of the pump. From what I see, air in this chamber is feed by multiple little tubes which is from another chamber that leads to the filter port where air come in. The foam chamber with the spikes does have a gap where the air freely goes to the center hole into the turbine. However, it can also pass through the foam as well. So if there are any degrading fumes that feeds through the filter port into the system, it will pass though the foam chamber which degrades the foam and gets suck into the air intake.
      In another words, it can get affected too. So better just use the old ways of cleaning, soap and water.

    Finally I got my ResMed AS 10 yesterday, and retired my REMstar System One until Philips repairs it. I set up my new machine with exactly same settings as in Philips REMstar. Although I had a good night's sleep last night, OSCAR shows my AHI was over 10 cm3... I was shocked. I had never had that much AHI when I was on CPAP. So apparently ResMed needs fine-tuning. Large corporations betray the public trust over and over (Phillips, Boeing Max 747). Why should anyone believe ResMed's assertion that their foam is safe? Another great video that provides such valuable information. Like everyone who depends on a CPAP, I'm in a quandary.

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Carl, that's a great question but it's so much more than the 'company assertion'. The Airsense10 has been in circulation since 2014 ( 7 years ) and there would be literally many millions of devices in circulation being used every night. If there were any problems with the foam or anything to do with the machine, the sheer volume of people using the devices means the information would eventually find it's way to the FDA (like it did for the Philips equipment). ResMed is obviously very very confident in not only their form but their overall track record with the AirSense10 and as such they have released the statement which i'm confident in endorsing. Thank you. Nick

    I guess I don’t understand why the foam has to be placed in the air stream pathway. Seems that the foam could be used to quiet the motor without having the intake or output air having to come in contact with the foam, making the foam less of an issue. Maybe the next generation of devices will be set up that way. I’ll be Phillips wished that they had done it that way.

    The only problem is the foam is being used as filter to deaden the airflow but it still gets dirty and cause problems with your respiratory it needs to be completely took it out of the machine and I need a redo of total redesign without foam inside the unit. Redesign the carrying case so that you can put the unit inside and it would be breathable but silence the machine while it is a use

      Hi John, thanks for your great insights and suggestions. I agree with you and i think most companies will be reviewing how foam is placed inside the machines. I have taken out a lot of foam recently and what you said is true, it gathers a lot of dust / moisture / mould inside the devices and it needs to be sealed off from the air intake. It's also highly chemical in nature and can't be good for you. Cheers mate. Nick

      Yes time to stop using the ozone machines as they are impacting the foam. That being said “The results of testing performed by Philips indicate that the PE-PUR sound abatement foam used in these devices may emit certain chemicals. Our investigation to date indicates that this emission occurs during initial operation and may possibly continue throughout the device's useful life”
      So basically Philips have gone and tested a brand new DS1 machine and found that it’s emitting ‘certain chemicals’ and this could continue throughout the life of the machine. That’s fucked up! Imagine sucking down some dodgy carcinogenic foam chemicals for 8 hours a night, year after year! The #foamgate saga just keeps getting worse the further down the rabbit hole we go..... Take care

      @CPAPReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi Robert, this ozone situation is a very interesting. Here's my thoughts. Considering that 90-95% of cpap machines have sound isolating foam inside them and hundreds of thousands of people use the ozone cleaners, if indeed it was cause (which it probably is) then i would expect most companies to come out and make big strong statements against the use of them (which they haven't to date really ). If i was Philips i would probably look for a scapegoat also and pin the blame on another company / product also. I think they're just throwing SoClean under the bus to divert attention but really it just comes down to shit chemical foam. For the time being i would be saying to people just stop the use of your sanitisers. I'm going to put some DS1 foam in a bag and run ozone through it for 2 months straight and see what comes of it ;-).
      Here's some interesting information for you all. So i've taken the foam out of both the DS1 and the DS2. The DS1 foam is actually a lot more dense and a lot stronger than the DS2 foam that you can basically tear with your fingers. Here's also what i found on the Canadian recall page -
      “The results of testing performed by Philips indicate that the PE-PUR sound abatement foam used in these devices may emit certain chemicals. Our investigation to date indicates that this emission occurs during initial operation and may possibly continue throughout the device's useful life”
      So basically Philips have got their foam, tested it on a brand new DS1 machine and found that it’s emitting ‘certain chemicals’ and this could continue throughout the life of the machine. That’s fucked up! Imagine sucking down some dodgy carcinogenic foam chemicals for 8 hours a night, year after year! The #foamgate saga just keeps getting worse the further down the rabbit hole we go..... Take care guys. Doing another foam vid soon (yawn)

      I am from Altra Service Professionals in the US. We are an authorized service center for both ResMed and Respironics. The foam in the Air 10 units will turn green and disintegrate into the blower when ozone is used. That is why it voids the warranty. The foam becomes gummy and you'll find it in the water chamber in the DreamStation when ozone is used.

    Just bought my resmed airsense. This Philipps Dreamstation thing really makes me mad. I hope they lit up.

      Hi There, it's a quality device congrats. Been around for a while but it's proven and nice to use. The Philips situation makes me incredibly angry on so many levels. Don't even get me started! Class actions have already started. I'm getting emails from lawyers to do vids for them. Cheers

      Crazy story. I have had a DreamStation for about 4 1/2 years now, but lately the motor had started whining. I caught a leg cramp one morning and quickly jumped out of bed, and in the process pulled my cpap machine off of the table crashing onto the floor. The unit still comes on but now the motor noise is worse. I researched getting another DreamStation and found the foam issue, so I decided to get a Resmed Airsense 10. Don't trust Phillips Respironics any longer, even though I loved my Dreamstation :)

    Thanks for vid and helpful info!!
    So question: how do we keep CPAP’s clean if we can’t use Ozone cleaners? From above comments I read, sounds like ResMed says DON’T use Ozone since it CAN effect the foam in AirSense 10 and will void the Warranty?
    Is Ozone at least safe to use on the Tube and Mask? Washing them with soap and water is such a hassle.
    Is there another method to ensure the machine part (not Tube and Mask) stays germ free besides using Ozone?
    Thanks!!!

      Hi there, it's a really fantastic question and i'm doing a video on it! There's so much information you guys don't know but i will give you the honest truth in a very short time. I've been having some incredible zoom chats and have some amazing documentation. Just need to record the vid :-). For the time being you can certainly use it on your tube and mask but just don't use it on your machine for the time being. Nick

      @@pattyscott1764 You can also use baby shampoo instead of dish detergent. I use it along with distilled vinegar & warm tap water. Works well.

    Hi Nick! I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work! My main machine is the "nightmarestation" unfortunately but I have an Apex FIT Auto as my backup machine. Is the Apex Auto FIT safe to use as well?

    I just bought a dream station of November last year but the medical place I got it from said there’s no danger in this recall unless you use an ozone cleaner that that’s what’s causing the degrading of the foam and that it would be OK for me to keep using this and they can’t do anything anyway and I’ve never registered my product with warranty I did not even know that existed I thought maybe they did stuff like that because they gave me a two-year warranty on the machine so I don’t really know what to do I guess I will keep using it since I do not use a humidifier and I do not use an ozone cleaner? Machine I had before this one was a Resmed , I think it was better and much quieter than the dream station. I’m a cash customer so the dream station only cost me $400 for the machine

      Hi Lee sorry to hear that! At that time there probably wasn't a lot of information out on the potential problems. Here's the thing and the real reason for the recall. “The results of testing performed by Philips indicate that the PE-PUR sound abatement foam used in these devices may emit certain chemicals. Our investigation to date indicates that this emission occurs during initial operation and may possibly continue throughout the device's useful life”
      So basically Philips have gone and tested a brand new DS1 machine and found that it’s emitting ‘certain chemicals’ and this could continue throughout the life of the machine. That’s fucked up! Imagine sucking down some dodgy carcinogenic foam chemicals for 8 hours a night, year after year! The #foamgate saga just keeps getting worse the further down the rabbit hole we go..... Good luck buddy, hate to be the bearer of bad news. Nick

    Very useful info. A major distraction though when your sound effects come on so loudly, and are totally unwanted and unnecessary.

    How do we know that ResMed or Fisher paykel foam is safe just because those companies said they're safe I'm sure that Philip said their phone was safe until it wasn't safe.
