  • How to Clean CPAP? In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the process of cleaning your CPAP machine, mask, and tube. You'll need mild dish soap, distilled water, a clean towel, and a soft-bristled brush. Unplug your machine and disassemble the mask and tubing.
    Soak them in warm, soapy water for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with the cloth. Rinse thoroughly with water and air dry on a clean towel. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the machine, but do not submerge it in water or use any liquid cleaner. Finally (optional), turn on the machine without the mask and tubing attached to clear out any dust or debris. With regular cleaning, you can help ensure the longevity of your CPAP equipment and prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria.

    You are THE BEST presenter for this procedure I have seen. I have been very lax at cleaning my machine, but this has inspired me to follow this procedure and (at 73 years of age) it may indeed lengthen my life-span!

    I clean my CPAP equipment in a very similar way. However out of an abundance of caution, I always do one final rinse with distilled water. This helps rinse away any of the impurities in your tap water.

      Thanks for the tip. New to cpap cleaning for the first time right now. I was kinda worried how he was using tap water to rinse it. I will use distilled water. Also instead of putting tap water in my tub I boiled and let water cool

      I use Dawn dish soap to clean all the parts. I was told that white vinegar was a good disinfectant. Does anyone see an issue with solely using soap instead of vinegar, or maybe just using vinegar once a month and dish soap weekly? Has anyone found that a tube brush is even necessary if you conduct cleanings regularly? Thanks for any information to a new CPAP user!

    • @theoriginaldashriprock
      @theoriginaldashriprock หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tb7-rf1fb I use dish unscented dishwashing liquid to wash all my CPAP Parts including the hose on a weekly basis. I just rinse everything well and do a final rinse with distilled water. Dish soap is fine as long as you let it soak for a few minutes and rub things down before rinsing. Just have to make sure you rinse well. And if you you sent it so, you really need to rinse a lot. I do occasionally use vinegar, just as a precaution. But not that often. My weekly cleaning does an incredibly good job. As far as the hose brush, I've never used one. I just feel the hose with soapy water then I connect the two ends of a hose together and let it sit for a while. I will slosh the soapy water around in the hose a few times, before rinsing it very well.

    Pro tip: to dry out your air tubes briefly turn on your CPAP (it will turn mostly off when it realizes you’re not using it) with the humidifier on its lowest setting and with no water. Because it thinks the humidifier is on it will do a light airflow to dry out the tube. I will also do this with the CPAP machine placed up high in the room and the tubing sloping down to the floor so excess water gets easily blown out.

    Having been doing a Cpap for over 20 years and cleaning I am amazed no one uses Mouth Wash to clean the Air Tube. I use Listerine after the soup and water rinse and again little more water rinse. Kills any germs and Smells good too.

    Stick a white wash rag up inside your bathtub faucet, pull it out and see how much black mold you pull out! I don’t care what house a person lives in, even the help won’t reach in that bathtub faucet to clean it! I would never recommend using the bathtub faucet to wash out your CPAP hoses. Only use the most frequently operated faucet in the residence. For myself, it’s the kitchen faucet.

    Ok I forgot to clean my stuff today and today was D day. But with 2 hours left before bed time I cleaned it!! I used baby Johnson soap in a glass bowl with warm water. But ohhh what do I do if I only have 2 hours to dry my stuf. Well I used my CLEAN hair dryer. Set on low heat and high speed. The long hose dried in the time it took to watch this video. And the other stuff took less than 5 minutes each. Now time for bed. Night night. 😊

    All I have ever done is to rinse the hose with a solution of sodium or potassium metabisulphite. It's the same stuff that is used to sterilize bottles, tubes, and brushes before bottling wine or beer. I also do the nasal cushion or mask. I wash the headgear in warm water and dish detergent, rinse well, and hang it in the open so that it is dry by bedtime. This all takes maybe four minutes. Another full minute is taken up changing the filter three times a year. Simple, quick, no muss, no fuss.

I empty the tubing & run it under sink faucet for a while, hang in shower away from any toliet. The mask I air dry on towel. I have 2 sets of everything h just switch them out every week so tubing gets nice & dry.

    Pretty close to the way I do it without ever seeing a video - Dishwashing soap was the obvious choice, since it's designed to rinse off completely, and you don't want even a trace of soap residue in your equipment. But the vinegar is something I didn't think of, so thanks for that!

    I really needed this video. I got my CPAP in a class-like setting where they gave us a machine and then asked what style of mask we wanted and that was it. We'll see you in a couple of months. I too have the AirSense 11. You should have mentioned that taking the ENTIRE unit into the bathroom is not necessary. LOL! But very informative and I do think a dedicated pail or bucket is an excellent idea. It allows you to leave some of your parts to soak for quite a while which helps a lot in cleaning.

    Great video for newbies, like us here. LOL
    We'll be selecting our machine in a week or two. I THINK we'll go with the AirSense 11, but I hope that at the store, we get to hear it operating. Some people say that it's louder than the AirSense 10, but I don't know. I did see a tear down of both models and the motor in the 11 is about 1/2 the size of that in the 10, so to push the air, the fan portion has to run double speed. So that does create more noise.
    Last night, my other half had the CPAP sleep thing done. The machine that they used was a ResMed lab quality machine that was so silent running that I wasn't even sure it was running. But it was.
    However, I do have a question about cleaning the hose, because we're going to get the "heated" hose.
    So I'm wondering, due to the electrical connectors and heating wire inside, would washing that be any different than a standard hose??
    Of by chance, has ResMed taken that into consideration and designed the heated hose to be well sealed so that it can be washed like seen here?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thansk

    Lots of good stuff. Thanks!
    I agree that for the video you went a bit overboard with the dish washing liquid, so what. What I was not impressed with was the degree to which you limited the rinsing steps. Rinsing long, with HOT water, helps get rid of even traces of whatever you cleaned with. Likewise, doing the same before washing as well as after gives the washing step less to do.
    As for replacement intervals, my local supplier wants me to order replacements as soon as my insurance will cover it. The condition of the equipment is secondary to getting every possible insurance dollar. While I do not cooperate with them on that, I do keep one set of supplies ahead so that if and when something MUST be replaced there is no waiting.

    • @GTGoalie
      @GTGoalie 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You should find a new supplier if you can and just order the items you need. I order the items online and I do order ahead of when I need it so that I don’t have to wait or in case something goes wrong with the items I am using.

    you're a legend. I just have 3 quick question
    1. for the Valve do you push to the right or do you push down(straight ahead)
    2. can we use cleaning Vinegar or just standard Vinegar
    3. if we wake up with some water left in the tub, do we throw that our or just top up for the next night
    Thanks again, this was really helpful

      In the summer it is best to clean the reservoir every day. I would get red algae that started to grow in the tank. I use a small brush to make sure the algae never forms again. Sometimes you can wait a day. It could firm bacteria. You can use trial & error. I usually clean the reservoir tank before I go to add new distilled water each night.

    For all those with an N30 Airfit mask be aware that there is 2 small filters sandwiched in the diffuser on either side of the tube. Isn't mentioned in any of the literature that I have read. I had noticed tiny black dots while cleaning that I couldn't get to. Eventually I pried the diffuser apart with a butter knife. It's just press fit. I decided to toss them as the cpap machine has the same filter material where the air comes in. I suppose if you soak it in vinegar it might disinfect it but moister on material is too much of a bacteria trap when you rinse it.
