I've always been a storyteller. I've written hundreds of short stories and multiple books, but I always sensed I was meant to share a different story.
    MY story.
I wasn't sure what that was until I was diagnosed with STAGE 4 Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (a SUPER rare type of cancer for which there is NO CURE).
I decided to embrace my motto of Living Out Loud and started sharing my journey in vlog format.
This is my story. Real. Raw. Unfiltered.

Dear Guillaume, I’m sorry you feel so poorly lately. I work with cancer patients every day and I know that cancer pain is one of the worse pains known to human kind. Unfortunately, popping occasional Tylenol won’t cut it, definitely not in stage 4. You need proper pain management agents and schedule to be worked out by palliative care team. Please request this as otherwise your quality of life will suffer immensely. I agree with other people here that you should admit yourself to the hospital ASAP (if not done yet) as cumulative dehydration, malnutrition and pain will only make your overall health worse. Please don’t wait 🙏 Gentle hugs 🤗 ❤

My thought: you might need a few days in hospital to get your symptoms under control so you can feel better at home. If you go to Emergency and tell them what you've told us, I'm confident they will admit you. They WILL help you.

Guillaume, when the pain never goes away, your treatment is insufficient. One pill per day isn't a law of nature, you need what you need. I don't advise to just pop in whatever you get your hands on, but rather talk to your doc and explain the situation. In this day and age, there is absolutely _no_ reason to suffer from pain. Also ask for anti-emetics to get a grip on that puking sensation.
Another thing most people don't have on their radar: In your situation, pain isn't medicated when it rears its head, but _before._ That means, you need a medication plan that allows you to stay pain-free in the first place. This is not a headache where you take a pill if it happens once in a blue moon.

As someone who had a very bad accident with massive injuries and ended up being so dependent on pain meds that i was taking 30 oxys a day, now sober for 3.5yrs… and will never ever go back on them… you need them… your body can’t rest/relax/heal when you are this bad off… your leg is acting up bc of all of the symptoms above and NO PAIN CONTROL/NO CALORIC INTAKE/ETC… this is why opiate pain meds were created.. stage 4 cancer patients… its not giving up- it waving the white flag and allowing your body to relax while the pain is ‘alleviated’… please please please go to the ER and demand a pain ,management consult and start some TPN or something for calories. I leave in Florida and my cancer center is wonderful, the other day I was in so much pain, called my oncologist and she send me to the hospital, they have to give morphine bc i thought I was going to die. She gives me fluids every week and change nausea medicine to a stronger one. I have never take so many painkillers like this time, my back is on fire. I just want you to know that every cancer patient, we’re in this together, we’re fighting this battle. You’re too young, hang in there, try to be positive and talk to your Dr. about managing pain. This is where pain management shines. Because you're stage 4 you should get decent assistance. One thing that won't be helping is taking half doses of the Tylenol. It's using up your daily limit in an ineffective way and contributing to you not getting a break. A pain management appt will help you plan to cover your pain and stay ahead of it. Also you need to get your breathing assessed and you might get relief from portable oxygen. One thing that helps with breathing is a fan blowing in your face. There's many strategies that can help reign in your symptoms and improve the way you feel each day but you do need to speak to pain management via your oncology team. It is crucial you do this.

As a chronic pain patient (13 major spinal surgeries) no one should have to be in constant pain! Over the years I have had various doses of pain medication depending on the stage of my recovery from surgery. I know that many doctors currently don’t want to prescribe pain medication sufficient to alleviate the pain. The pendulum has swung way too far from treating pain patients with copious amounts of pain medication to insufficient amounts of pain medication for fear that they will lose their medical license! Your pain IS NOT being controlled the way it should be! You are going to have to advocate for yourself and let your doctor know what's going on. You need to have enough pain meds on hand so you can stay on top of the pain. I'm not talking about Tylenol either! You should be given meds that are scheduled and others for the breakthrough pain. There is no reason you should be suffering this much. Also, there are antinausea meds that dissolve under the tongue in a matter of seconds and help so much. Please reach out to your doctor. One last thing, sleeping with a wedge pillow might make the breathing a bit easier during your long nights. Try to take care of yourself.

@LivingOutLoud-LWS4C palliative is not deathbed. It's for anyone living with a chronic health problem. There are services to help you live a more comfortable and better life based on your needs. People really mix palliative and hospice up. My mom is palliative, but she doesn't have cancer. I take care of her, and she suffers from chronic health problems. I have services that come into help. It's to make your life better , not for dying. She has meals delivered, PSW, physio coming in, nurse to check on her blood pressure. It's so she doesn't have to go to the hospital. Its like at home care for people with any disabilities that interrupt their regular activities or quality of life. They even come to take her blood. Talk to a palliative care team. There is usually a pain management team attached to that as well. Here in Ontario, it's called Champlain. Due to you already having a diagnosis and cancer, you qualify 100%. Save your energy and get meals sent. We even saw a free nutritionalist. Heart to homes is even free meals . Also, ask your doctor about Para transpo... yes , I'm giving advice because I really really care. Xxx💙

Please contact Hospice. If you have cancer that has no cure, you qualify. They will provide pain relief, oxygen, comfort care. Please, please, please call them! No one should live this way! I’m so sorry to see you go through this. 😞

I have no idea how that works, but I always assumed it was for people who were on their deathbed.

You need WAY more meds. More pain meds for sure. Probably oxygen at least for a while. And something to stop you from feeling sick. This is 2024, not 1824, we have these meds available! Go to the ER or if you prefer, wait and talk to your doctor, but for crying out loud, you are insanely under medicated for a stage 4 cancer patient! You may need to go into the hospital for a couple of days to get everything under better control, get you some fluids too via IV (that will help with the nausea). Please, don't just suffer! BSN here, by the way.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I just found this video and wanted to send you prayers but, if you’re so miserable and need medical help then I think you should go to the ER and low them to admit you into the hospital. If I may ask, why are you allowing yourself to go through this and if you’re not getting any help? My prayers are with you and also, what about meditation? It can help you to be calm and also a little better attitude too. I was born with a disability and use a wheelchair to get around and also a dialysis patient for 16 yrs. Have had breast cancer and the whole time I was going through the radiation treatments I kept a great attitude DN yes, it got hard on me but I kept moving forward. God bless you always. Sue in Florida.🙏🙏🙏🤞🏼👍🏻

Sorry you had to go through all that. Sounds intense. But it sounds like you have a great attitude and are making the best of it.
What I don't understand is why people automatically assume I'm doing nothing. I keep my doctors up to date on EVERYTHING that happens and we always do whatever is best given the situation. But difficult times are unavoidable and this happens to be one of them. Things always get better. ALWAYS!

I don't know enough about cancer to know if you need a hospital right now, but what I do know is that when we feel poorly we don't always know what we need. It's hard to see the forest for the trees kind of thing. It would be worth it to consider the advice you've gotten here. Also, I'm proud of you for posting this vulnerable video.

I appreciate it, but I will always do what feels right no matter what others say. If I listened to what others say, I would be in the hospital right now... but I would also have given up and I'd be waiting for death. So, although I really appreciate your concern, I don't regret not going to the ER.
