@@Glittersword True. @@Otisboy121 Yeah, it actually happens a lot with movies & TV shows, but in this case they felt it was meant to be because of the whole concept for the family added to the fact that the parents didn't really care about the gender.

The tragic irony of Debbie is that she fits right in with the family but is too wrapped up in her own baggage to ever realize it. The only time they had any real problem with her was when she tried to separate Fester from the rest of the family. If she had just gone along with it she could have had free access to the Addams' wealth and a loving, supportive family that don't have any real problem with her violent, gold-digging ways. Even constantly trying to kill Fester isn't really a deal breaker because that's just a casual greeting as far as the Addams's are concerned.

There is a reason that Morticia has her own lighting. They shined light on her eyes as a reference to Bela Lugosi, who played Dracula in 1931. There were many close shots on Lugosi’s face and a light was shone only on his eyes to accentuate them, seeing as the movie was in black and white. Unfortunately, this and Street Fighter (1994.) was Raul Julia's (the actor of Gomez) last 2 movies. As he would pass away on October of 1994 due to a stroke. But what's crazy is that he had apparently also been battling stomach cancer for THREE YEARS prior to his death. It really speaks to his dedication to his craft that he worked on both Addam's family movies while battling cancer behind closed doors. What an absolute legend. Also ,like many other actors who died before their time, he left quite a mark on movie history and both the movies starring him as the head of the titular Addams Family prove it. *To this day* his version of Gomez and the rest of the family are considered the *gold standard* on how to adapt the characters. Joan Cusack (Debbie) is a very famous actress. She voices Jessie in Toy Story, one of her 1st cameos is in 16 Candles as nerd girl and she's hilarious, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Joan is a national treasure
I think it was originally planned to show more Morticia and Gomez, but Raul Julia (Gomez) was terminally ill with cancer during filming (it was either stomach or pancreatic, I don’t remember which) and their schedule was probably lessoned as a result. There are interviews out there with Angelica Houston (Morticia) where she talks about filming this movie with him, and she said it was the most heartbreaking thing she’d ever been a part of, because she both admired his professionalism and felt like she was literally watching him fall apart. I don’t remember if they offered to recast him and he refused, but he was determined to see this film through because he loved the part of Gomez so much. She said he was one of her favorite costars she’d ever worked with. I also find it really tragic that Debbie didn’t truly understand what she’d stumbled in to. This family absolutely not only would have accepted her, but would have also even overlooked (or in some cases encouraged) her constant attempts to off Fester. In another world, it would have probably made them as kinky as Morticia and Gomez if she had just embraced it. And I don’t really think there is a chance the Addams family money would ever run out, so she basically struck pure black gold and threw it away.
My favorite scene in this movie is when Wednesday plays the lifeguard and Amanda plays the drowning victim. As soon as Amanda says "I'll be the victim!" Wednesday says "All you life". Then she jumps in the water and Wednesday just stands there and says "I can't swim". So funny and dark it makes me laugh so hard.
Oh yay! So glad you guys reacted to this, can't wait! This one will always be my favourite just for the marvellous Joan Cusack (FYI she's the sister of John Cusack who voiced Dimitri in Anastasia. He's an awesome actor too!) :)

Please note also: "Wednesday" is a new series premiering on Netflix on November 23, 2022. It's been created by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Tim Burton, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular character, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Gwendoline Christie appearing in supporting roles. Christina Ricci, the original film Wednesday Addams, will be making an appearance as a different character.
I LOVE the second one, this made me realise that I was Wednesday of my family 😂 also the Debbie was a good add in member in this movie. I always loved how she never phase at the absurdity of Adams and poor Fester being played with again. The family drama is so great. The only disturbing thing is the beginning which I only saw through your reaction.
Okay, a couple of things I love about the newest edition of this family, Pubert- the little guy is mustachioed, and he has a few tricks up his sleeve(shooting a flaming arrow, catching the blade part of the gulliottine, etc.).
When my dad and I went to see this in the theater, the Eat Me song had us hyperventilating with convulsive laughter for like 5 minutes straight. That phrase maybe doest play the way it used to but it was kind of a dirty double entendre and having Pugsly sing it in a Turkey costume broke our brains.
Joan Cusack was comedy genius in this movie. Every move every line know one else could of played Debbie the scene of her practicing telling her story of Fester death to the police and not being able to hold her laugh. 😂
The joke about the bald eagle being extinct doesn't land as well these days. Back in the 90's the American Bald Eagle was on the endangered species list, but it has since repopulated enough to come off.
I like how they kept a lot of the characters from the first movie, even the minor ones. Amanda, the lead in the play, was the Girl Scout selling cookies from the first movie. She was also on the plane at the end that Pubert passed by. Her parents just pulled down the window shade- apparent they had enough after the camp play. :)
Fun fact about the Addems Family, in the original TV show their interior was pink... But due to black/white screens it was only released through photos.
Joan Cusack is Debbie’s actress and she is in a lot! My first film watching her was as the mom in Ice Princess. Oh and Gilbert- the boy that’s into Wednesday played Bernard in Santa Clause. Christina Ricci pulling that smile and it actually looking painful. Fabulous actress and the outcasts taking over the play perfection!
Alredy commented but I got some fun facts I wanted to point out just in case: 1. Part of the reason why the romance between Gomez and Morticia was so palpable in this adaptation was because Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston apparently legitimately fell in love over the course of working on these movies 2. Debbie probably would have fit right in with the rest of the family. Even being completely insane and greedy, the thing that made her an enemy in their eyes was the fact that she was *completely selfish* and didn't care about anyone else, not even family. 3. As you probably noticed, Mercedes McNab's girl scout character made a return from the previous movie to this one as a minor, but hillarious, antagonist 4. After this there was a straight to DVD movie which, while it starred Tim Curry who was admittebly a fantastic choice to play Gomez, wasn't very good. Carel Struycken (Lurch) was the only member of the original cast of the 1991 and 1993 movies reprise his role. But that's about the only impressive thing about it 5. There is a new series starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday coming this November. Jury is still out on whrther it will be good, but it seems that they will be keeping in line with the 90's films' style, just with a modern polish
1) Don't see how a gay Julia fell in love with a woman. 5) The trailer for the new series looks awful, and I can't believe they got Ortega as Gomez. Ortega himself is great, but not for this role. 6) I recommend the adult wednesday comedy skits by Melissa Hunter.
The blonde little girl that's a snob is the actress Mercedes McNab who played the character Harmomy on the TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel.
The problem wasn't that she was crazy; any self-respecting Addams could match her insanity. The problem was that she didn't love anyone but herself, while the Addamses always love each other.
For an improv class I had I remember we had one time where we switched it up and had a scripted monologue to remember, and the goal was to build upon it with improvisation so much we embodied the character. My monologue was Wednesday’s scene for the play. It was quite ironic seeing as she herself did the same thing. I spent weeks dressing and acting like her to try and get into her mindset, and ngl I blacked out during the whole scene. I remember none of it, but once I was done my friend came up to me and said I scared her so I guess I succeeded in embodying her 😂 An honor playing her either way, to this day that’s one of my favorite scenes in film of all time.
Wednesday said she would scare her husband to death. And he has asthma so I feel when she grabbed his arm from the grave that’s what she meant. She wants him to be her husband
great review guys, after your reaction to the first one i was really looking forward to this second one. christina ricci is just insanely talented and perfect for her role. joan cusack (debbie) is in a lot of stuff and she can be kind of a chameleon. thinking about her made me think about a rarely referenced movie called Toys (1992) that is really really entertaining but really weird. robin williams stars in it, as well as joan cusack, then the cast has michael gambon, LL Cool J, robin wright, jamie foxx in varying roles. looks like it wasn't rated too well but i remember liking it a lot as a kid. i'd do patreon just to watch your reaction to the full length movie just bc it's so weird. check it out!
christina ricci is a great actress. shes been in a lot of things. debbie was played by joan cusack. you might know her brother, john cusack. joan is a pleasure every time shes on the screen. her characters are always so funny and unique. i think my favorite is her in grosse point blank, with her brother. that is a great movie if you havent seen it. they were also together in martian child, thoughshe had a smaller and less fun role in that.
I always thought it was interesting that when it came to the villains, they would fit in with the family. They would’ve been completely excepted and encouraged and some regards. But the key thing is the villains in both movies tried to separate the family and that’s the one line for the Addams family that you don’t cross.
Interesting, isn't it? She couldn't kill him on their honeymoon by electrifying him (in fact he made a light bulb glow!) BUT, at the end, she intends to kill him by... ELECTRIFYING him! WTF?!? 😑
"You have gone too far .. you've married Fester ... You've destroyed his spirit ... you've taken him from us ... All that i can forgive .. But Debbie! PASTELS !?" Most Favorite delivery of a movie line, haven't related to a female character as much as Morticia and Wednesday both perfection and so much like myself in many ways also ofcourse the male characters Gomez and Fester exceptional , and last but not least Debbie Pastel lol one of the best female villains ever made.
My favorite line of Morticia is in that movie..."I'm just like any modern woman trying to have it all...loving husband...a family...it's just i wish i had more time to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade...that's all" It's hilarious but also revealing of their relationships, Gomez wants to know whats wrong and how he can help her. It's part of the 11 good thing that couple do explained in the Cinema Therapy video which i highly recommends !!!
I always really loved this movie. More Wednesday, and I found that Debbie was actually both a really great villain and a really great Addams. She's the sort of person that would have fit into the family perfectly, if only she didn't break the cardinal rule of the Addams. Loyalty to Family.
The Netflix series feels like a hard sell, because this for me will always be peak Wednesday. Christina Ricci chews the scenery with almost every line. If I had to choose a highlight, "I'll be the victim"/"All your life" still makes me cackle.
The new Wednesday's dialogue feels too "lets fit all the edgy punchlines we can have" but she does deliver the character well. Its saddening tho because I think the chemistry of the Addams family and what makes them is non-existent with the show.
I loved both of these movies! I remember when the teaser trailer for the first film appeared, they did a gag straight out of Charles Addams comics that wasn't used in the actual movie where people are in a movie theater and an actress in the movie they are watching looks out into the audience and breaks the 4th wall with a scream causing the entire audience to turn around and look, and they gave us the first reveal of the family and the theme music started. The biggest difference between the films is that the first film used many jokes from the original comics, but the second movie was entirely new and original. Had Raul Julia (Gomez) not died unexpectedly of an illness a year after the second film released, there almost certainly would have been a third film with this cast. It's a sad irony that Raul Julia died so young, and John Astin, who played Gomez in the 1960s Addams Family television series, in his 90s is the only surviving adult cast member from that show.
The original (tv show) Uncle Fester was, as many may know, Jackie Coogan, who had been a HUGE child star in the days of silent movies -- I mean, Macaulay Culkin level. The law requiring parents of child actors to set aside a portion of their earnings to be held in trust for them until they reach adulthood was named for him.
If you haven't watched Hocus Pocus 2, and Trick 'r Treat, you totally should! A good scary movie to watch could be: *30 Days Of Night* And just an artsy- WORTHY Film to watch Would be "The Fall" (2006)
I lol as soon as I saw title. This is one of my all time favorites and I love that you guys reacted to this. It was already hilarious and then Joan Cusack came 😂
THE. CUTEST. BABY. IN CINEMA HISTORY. 👶! Also yes, Wednesday (Christina Ricci) bodied this role! Since you're kinda going down the Halloween (but fun/light-hearted) route, watch Casper (if y'all haven't already)
@@whitenoisereacts also the cat in the hat joke. When she say oh no he survied. Thats actully a super dark joke. Cos the author was suicidal when he wrote that book so when she see it has a ending she kowns he didnt kill him self. Thats why she was reading that book in the hopes to turn him back
Netflix actually created a series about Wednesday (and the rest of the Addams) and it'll air this November. It's not played by the original cast but it is based on the original comic.
Which one do you like more? The first or second movie?
In my opinion, the second one is far superior. Joan Cusack is such a good villain, and Christina Ricci really makes the Wednesday character.

Christina Ricci, the original film Wednesday Addams, will be making an appearance as a different character.
I know!!!!We are gonna watch it I think!!
There is also "The Addams Family Musical" Especially the version with Nathan Lane as Gomez
Bad news...The netflix version is so ooc.
The Thanksgiving Play is the best example of revisionist history I’ve seen in cinema lol
And he’s actually played by twin girls
When my dad and I went to see this in the theater, the Eat Me song had us hyperventilating with convulsive laughter for like 5 minutes straight. That phrase maybe doest play the way it used to but it was kind of a dirty double entendre and having Pugsly sing it in a Turkey costume broke our brains.
After watching the first Addams Family movie, I quote the Homicidal Maniac line whenever a costume is mentioned lol
RIP Raul Julia. Would have loved more movies with him as Gomez :(
Fun fact about the Addems Family, in the original TV show their interior was pink... But due to black/white screens it was only released through photos.
My theory is when Gomez says "It's an Addams" is because the baby playing pubert, is actually played by two twin girls, not boys.
To be honest I've seen this movie so many times and have never questioned why they were doing a Thanksgiving play at summer camp!
OMG that cat in the box! They're trying Shrodinger's theory lol
Love Joan Cuscack as Debbie, can’t believe she plays Jessie in Toy Story 🤗
Debbie is played by Jessie from the Toy Story movies 🙂
Alredy commented but I got some fun facts I wanted to point out just in case:
1. Part of the reason why the romance between Gomez and Morticia was so palpable in this adaptation was because Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston apparently legitimately fell in love over the course of working on these movies
2. Debbie probably would have fit right in with the rest of the family. Even being completely insane and greedy, the thing that made her an enemy in their eyes was the fact that she was *completely selfish* and didn't care about anyone else, not even family.
3. As you probably noticed, Mercedes McNab's girl scout character made a return from the previous movie to this one as a minor, but hillarious, antagonist
4. After this there was a straight to DVD movie which, while it starred Tim Curry who was admittebly a fantastic choice to play Gomez, wasn't very good.
Carel Struycken (Lurch) was the only member of the original cast of the 1991 and 1993 movies reprise his role. But that's about the only impressive thing about it
5. There is a new series starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday coming this November. Jury is still out on whrther it will be good, but it seems that they will be keeping in line with the 90's films' style, just with a modern polish
I can’t believe that was Mercedes McNab When she was young, the next time I saw her was in Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV Series when she played Harmony
If Debbie was not so crazy she would have fit right in with the Addams family
The problem wasn't that she was crazy; any self-respecting Addams could match her insanity.
The problem was that she didn't love anyone but herself, while the Addamses always love each other.
Yes, this movie is absolut gold, it ramps up from the first one to 100. Love this series
My favorite of the 2 movies. Wednesday kills it!
23:40 And just like her parents, Wednesday has her own perfect Italian-French romance
I didn't realize they changed the baby's room to light colors to make him feel comfortable. W parents
Wednesday said she would scare her husband to death. And he has asthma so I feel when she grabbed his arm from the grave that’s what she meant. She wants him to be her husband
I just binged all the 60's TV series Addams family episodes. I recommend watching those too!
great review guys, after your reaction to the first one i was really looking forward to this second one. christina ricci is just insanely talented and perfect for her role. joan cusack (debbie) is in a lot of stuff and she can be kind of a chameleon.
thinking about her made me think about a rarely referenced movie called Toys (1992) that is really really entertaining but really weird. robin williams stars in it, as well as joan cusack, then the cast has michael gambon, LL Cool J, robin wright, jamie foxx in varying roles. looks like it wasn't rated too well but i remember liking it a lot as a kid. i'd do patreon just to watch your reaction to the full length movie just bc it's so weird. check it out!
Fun Fact: the main camper girl, Amanda, is the same girl from the first movie who tried to sell Wednesday and Pugsley girl scout cookies
The first film I remember seeing Anjelica Huston was The Witches, which they remade in 2020 for HBO Max with Anne Hathaway.
For those, who watched the original show and sees how Debbie is trying to kill Fester with electricity and dynamite... Like, really?
christina ricci is a great actress. shes been in a lot of things. debbie was played by joan cusack. you might know her brother, john cusack. joan is a pleasure every time shes on the screen. her characters are always so funny and unique. i think my favorite is her in grosse point blank, with her brother. that is a great movie if you havent seen it. they were also together in martian child, thoughshe had a smaller and less fun role in that.
I love this “ All your life”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wednesday’s smile is everything 😁😁😁
Fun Fact: The baby was played by twin girls, Kristen and Kaitlyn Hooper.
And his coos and giggles are dubbed by the woman who voiced Angelica on _Rugrats_
Wednesday and Pugsley would be great Children’s TH-camrs with their own Livestream Playtime.
WTF?!? 😑
Christina Ricci plays Wednesday and is just a fabulous actress even to this day. She does indie stuff mostly, but I recommend anything she does.
"You have gone too far .. you've married Fester ... You've destroyed his spirit ... you've taken him from us ... All that i can forgive .. But Debbie! PASTELS !?"
Most Favorite delivery of a movie line, haven't related to a female character as much as Morticia and Wednesday both perfection and so much like myself in many ways also ofcourse the male characters Gomez and Fester exceptional , and last but not least Debbie Pastel lol one of the best female villains ever made.
While they weren't extinct, bald eagles were on the endangered species list in the early 90s
By far one of the best sequels that doesnt surpass or fall short of the original. Both movies are amazing .
I love Wednesday as well. I hope the new Netflix show about her does her character justice!
Singing the Eat Me! Turkey song is a family tradition every Thanksgiving at my house. For the past 20 years 🤣🤣🤣
My favorite line of Morticia is in that movie..."I'm just like any modern woman trying to have it all...loving husband...a family...it's just i wish i had more time to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade...that's all" It's hilarious but also revealing of their relationships, Gomez wants to know whats wrong and how he can help her. It's part of the 11 good thing that couple do explained in the Cinema Therapy video which i highly recommends !!!
Angelica Huston had a constant eye light in this movie which is super difficult to achieve and she had a metal corset her performance is everything
One of the best sequels and funniest films ever!
the thanks giving play scene has me on the floor without fail no matter how often i watch this movie
Yes, Morticia giving Debbie props but condemning pastels, lives rent free in my head. Love this movie, they’re all a treat.
If you guys like the actress who played Wednesday, Christina Ricci, you can also see her in sleepy Hollow another great Halloween movie.
19:44 I love James' reaction to "President"
Fun Fact: In the cartoons, Fester was Gomez’s Uncle, not his brother.
Christina Ricci is AMAZING! One of my favorite actresses and all time crushes. She's beautiful!
This is one of Joan Cusack's best roles! She is absolutely brilliant!
If you haven't watched Hocus Pocus 2, and Trick 'r Treat, you totally should!
A good scary movie to watch could be:
*30 Days Of Night*
And just an artsy-
WORTHY
Film to watch
Would be
"The Fall" (2006)
This movie forever changed the way I see Joan Cusack. And I think Moticia's eye light is an image to the 1920-ish movies.
Wednesday truly was the standout character in this and that's saying something.
She is frankly iconic.
debbie would have fit right in. the family supported her but she was just to selfish to be a Addams
That’s true!!!
