Make Your Truck Smarter Today! Diagnostic Tool Comparison

- Today's incredibly complex (and expensive!) trucks are just rolling computers, and if you encounter a problem, a "check engine" light or "see dealer now!" warning message just isn't going to get you back on the road any time soon. You need to empower yourself with advanced diagnostics.
Fortunately, you can add this capability to your truck for a very modest fee, and it's a one-time purchase. Never be stranded on the side of the road again due to a DTC that you can't clear! And why go to the dealer and wait for service when you might be able to handle it yourself for way less time and money.
In this video I compare a standalone diagnostic OBD2 reader vs. a bluetooth OBD2 scanner which integrates with a smartphone.

can you see the battery voltage with OBDLink MX+ OBD2 and engine off, or does the BT adapter only work with the engine on? In your video it looked like you were monitoring the charging system voltage (~14v) not the inherent 12v battery voltage.
Thanks for posting this. Would you happen to have the direct link to be able to set up the custom dashboard? I can see how it is very useful.
No, it's a file that you need to download. Look for posts from @snakebitten in the f150gen14.com forum.
@@fixorrepairdiy4609 Thank you! . I shall do so, now.
My 2023 F150 Powerboost jerks whenever I accelerate from a low speed.
First it will start to roll on electric power from a stop but when the gas engine starts, it feels like the electric motor quits and a jerk is felt when the gas engine kicks in.
To me this feels very annoying cause I've never had a vehicle act in this way before.
IDK if the Ford engineers have fixed this annoyance for the 2024 model year or not but I wish there were a solution for this annoyance so that my 2023 could benefit.
What about you there Mr. "FixOrRepairDIY", have you also noticed this event happen in your Powerboost F150?
Please reply and thanks.
When my truck was new, the transition from EV to ICE was pretty clunky. Not only was the gas motor coming in, but it shifted from 1st gear to 3rd. I don't know if I would call it a "jerk" but it was clumsy. Now the transition is like butter. I think it has a lot to do with the transmission "learning" your style, as well as some OTA software updates seemed to tame the beast. You might want to watch the same metrics that I show in the back half of this video so you can see exactly what's going on. Or take it to the dealer and see if they can apply some updates. cheers
@@fixorrepairdiy4609 Thanks!
Ford probably can help you, my experience with rough shifting was a bit extreme. My truck was not downshifting if the truck got up to 7th gear in electric mode. Sometimes I would find myself sitting stopped with the truck still in 7th gear and I could feel the electric motor putting lots of torque on the drivetrain. When I took my foot off the brake to start accelerating from a stop the truck downshifted abruptly into 1st and that was clearly not suppose to happen. Ford fixed it, they kept the truck for a couple days while they arranged for a factory technician to connect remotely to the truck and 'reset' the Transmission ECU.
@@wallacecj1 Thanks, I'll do that.
