- Kenwood DDX920WDABS Install into a Toyota Hilux, however this style of Kenwood unit will fit into any Toyota or Subaru as they have a slightly wider size than the standard double din size. This unit is so simple and easy to install.
This video was filmed yonks ago, and have been using this head unit daily. I do not regret purchasing this unit at all, best thing I've done.

Pleasure! Yeh the patch / plug and plug harnesses are so worth it for $50 saves all the hassle of splicing, cutting, stripping, identifying cables and messing around
Good video mate. This is the head unit I will be installing in my 09 forester xt, so it was nice to hear that you mentioned it was an easy fit for Subaru considering I couldn't get much info locally. I was looking at a few other Kenwood units such as the DDX9070DABS or DDX9020DABS but decided on this because of it's wireless abilities and better price considering it doesn't have a built in gps unlike the aforementioned unit.
A thing to note in the model number, the 2nd D in DDX means the head unit has a disc drive (cd) and the W means it has wireless capabilities.
Hell yeah mate! you certainly will not regret purchasing this head unit trust me. Doing my research I was looking at other models of head units that had wired apple car play and then getting a third party wireless adapter. But they the time you get the head unit + wireless dongle. You are pretty much at the price of purchasing a product that has it built in.
The W actually indicates that it is widescreen. The 9020DABS is wireless as well.
You can still touch your phone in the holder for basic functions.

12:55 It seems like a fair bit. Any chance it's just humid where you are or does the screen really pick up everything?

I think this was a combination of sweat, humidity and probably abit of residue from touching panels and cables etc inside. Typically the screen stays fairly clean, I just keep a microfibre cloth in my center console and give it a wipe down every so often to keep it clean.

Great video. Thanks for making it. I am installing a similar unit to you. The Kenwood DMX8520DABS. I am putting mine into a Honda Civic. A Question please re the DABS digital Antenna, I read differing things everywhere. I will use the DABs digital radio and was going to put in a splitter, they are cheap $20 and allow me to put the digital plug on the kenwood to my Shark Fin existing analogue antenna. Did you use your existing aerial ? and do similar to what I am doing ? or did you install the digital antenna that is often a stick on the front window? (I am trying to avoid stick on digital Antenna) I am in Melbourne and digital radio is far superior than AM radio which I often use. Some people seem to get different results with different antennas. Thanks for any advice.
I personally didn’t install the digital antenna, I just used my existing aerial and that has been fine for the very rare time that I’ve listened to the radio. Im always streaming my music nowadays hahha

Great pick up, to be honest and from memory I didn't wire it up as I personally don't listen to the radio and stream all my music / podcasts off my phone.
can you do a tutorial on how to mirror iphone to headunit i have the same and ive only ever got it to mirror with my phone once thanks
I have tried a few times and revisited how I could get this to work...but I haven't found a solution just yet

Hi mate, unfortunately I haven’t had the need to USB mirror as of yet! But I do have the application downloaded on my phone. Don’t get wrong when I say this head-unit was well worth the investment and you won’t be disappointed
@@AdventureN Yeah thanks. From what I’ve seen these are one of the best for the n70’s. I am keen on the mirroring feature and haven’t seen much info on it so if you get around to using it, throw me a reply and what you rate of it. I’m keen just to not have to deal with the 5min Bluetooth connect time haha

Thanks for the video mate, quick questions. Did you have to ground off the purple reverse camera cord on the harness or was it fine without doing anything to it? Also did you have to connect the pink VSS cord to anything, or again could you just leave it? Thanks.
No worries mate, yes I did have to ground that one off! From memory I left the pink VSS cable alone and did nothing with it

@@AdventureN Have you had any issues with using Apple Carplay? I've just purchased a DDX9020DABS, and I was reading that you needed the VSS and GPS connected to use Apple Carplay wirelessly. Also, any issues with the GPS unit? The manual says to mount it on top of the dash, but tucked away underneath is a much neater option if it doesn't affect operation. Thanks for the video.

im still extremely irritated by the warning screen, I meant seriously Kenwood, WTF that feels like a lifetime and its there for a lifetime, its more a hider and could very easily cause an accident
Yeh it gets a little annoying when you want to put on an absolute slap of a tune as soon as you get into the car.
