    0:10 What is collagen?
    0:25 Five types of collagen
    2:08 How to replenish collagen
In this video, we’re going to talk about the different types of collagen.
There are actually 28+ different types of collagen, but we’re going to focus on just 5 of these-types 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Collagen is a type of protein that makes up the body’s connective tissue.
90% of all collagen is type-1 collagen.
    Type-1 collagen is used in:
    • Scar tissue
    • Tendons
    • Ligaments
    • Bones
    • Skin
    • Arteries
    • Teeth
    Type-2 collagen is used in:
    • Joint cartilage
    Type-3 collagen is used in:
    • Mesh around the liver
    • Bone marrow
    • Lymph
    Type-4 collagen is used in:
    • Respiratory tract tissue
    • Intestines
    • Tissue around the heart
    • Digestive system tissue
    Type-5 collagen is used in:
    • Hair
    • Cell surfaces
You need vitamin C to metabolize collagen. If you have digestive problems (gastric bypass surgery, low stomach acidity, etc.), you may not be able to digest collagen from your food.
When you consume collagen, it breaks down into amino acids that your body later used to make up different types of collagen.
If you have low stomach acidity, you can use betaine hydrochloride and apple cider vinegar to acidify your stomach.
For vitamin C deficiencies, start adding more vegetables to your diet. Bell peppers, lemons, limes, and leafy green vegetables are great sources of vitamins and minerals.
If you are deficient in vitamin C, you may have subclinical vitamin C deficiency symptoms like bleeding gums.

@@travismckinnon2494 I use 2 different kinds. 'Anthony's collagen peptide powder's and 'Left Coast bone broth powder grass fed' the collagen peptide powder can be used without a blender I'm pretty sure but the bone broth powder definitely has to be blended into a smoothie, 1 scoop and it tastes good, more than that and it can kinda throw off the taste a bit but it will still be good especially if you throw it in the fridge a couple hours somehow that makes the taste blend in a bit more in my experience.

I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a genetic condition that causes the collagen in my body to be defective, it affects many aspects of my body, joints, gastric and heart. I started Keto after watching a Dr Berg video 13 months ago, down 92 lbs, reversed my IBS diarrhea, I take B-12, Vit D and C. I take collagen peptides in my morning coffee. Pink Salt too. I feel like a new woman. While I can’t change having a Syndrome that I have to manage, I can take control my health by managing what I eat. It has been life changing!

    • @dana102083
      @dana102083 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@LiftOffLife there is no cure for EDS, please don't throw that word around. I've been keto for 134 months, I'm an RN and I have EDS hypermobility type. There are more favorable that are against us than a simple diet and mineral shift. We produce defective collagen based on a specific genetic coding error. No matter how much vitamin c one takes will not change the coding error. However epigenetics is real and we may be able to change the future years at a time. But don't throw cure around like it's a light switch to flip. Not cool.

So proud of you! I'm in same boat, eds type 3 and in keto 14 month. I came to the comments to find my zebras :) the best improvement is in sleep and lifting major brain fog. I lost 75 lbs last year, another 40 before keto and now it's the only way. Once you see the light.. I never take as much vit c as I should but want one easy to swallow with no sugar..hard feat so far! Be well! < 3

    • @GodListens77
      @GodListens77 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@LiftOffLife Yes I understand what detox process is (autophagy). However, Like Dana102083 stated, those of us with EDS have a genetic condition, meaning something went wrong in the genes/chromosomes, etc. before birth. We cannot detox to fix it, take supplements to correct it. Our life is about managing the condition the best way possible. That may include detoxing, keto or other diets, supplements, etc. However, this will support us to function but will not fix or correct it. Collagen makes up about roughly 80% of our bodies. It's the 'glue' that holds us together, if you will. It's in our eyes, skin, muscles,..etc. I get tired just standing sometimes because I have to use so much energy in my posture, gait (walk), etc. I appreciate your information and please forgive me if I sound put-off with your comment. I think I can safely say those of us with this condition also have other conditions like mast cell activation syndrome or mastocytosis, POTS or other issues. We are weary of 'fast fix' comments and of MDs who blow us off because either they don't believe us or don't know enough about these things and how they are interconnected that they just don't try. This leaves us alone in our battles and blanket statements that are not educated on the issue can be hard to hear over time.

Thanks for sharing! If you're wondering about forms of collagen, capsules are more convenient for traveling, but powder works too and you can't really taste it. There's not going to be a difference in absorption between the powder and the liquid. And finally, collagen does not get absorbed through the skin, so don't count on that when using a cream. On the other hand, you might experience benefits from collagen cream from the other ingredients that tend to be in those creams, like vitamin A!

Either way, while consuming the right things will make it easier for your body to use it, proteins will still get broken down regardless and made into what's needed. There are ways to influence how the body uses them. Dr Berg mentions Vitamin C, which is a big one, garlic and ellagic acid (mostly berries, esp rasp and strawberry) are also good things to consume here to help though)

I know this video is a year old but I'm interested in taking collagen peptides. I'm on a workout Journey, I'm 37 years old and I've gone as far as to change my eating habits. More so low carb and high fat diet. I left out the soda and beer, all the things that kind of make you bloated. With that being said, I want to start collagen peptides but I have neurofibromatosis type 1 and I'm not educated enough to understand if taking collagen would cause problems with the NF1. Any information you can offer?

I added my collagen powder to a drink with grated fresh ginger, apple cider vinegar and a bit of fresh Lemon juice. That solves the stomach acid and bit c thing. Enjoy! Add a couple of drops of stevia if you like.

Try making fruit and veg smoothies. Dr Rhonda Patrick has a great recipe here on TH-cam but it doesn't have to be the same to get the benefits of high fiber.

Dr berg is awsome. I had candida or ringworm for years. I used creams and topical and even prescription drugs to no avail. Then I watched dr. Berg and he said eliminate sugar for fungas. I did and it's gone. Why did my family dr. Not tell me that? Bcs he didn't know that's why.
