Thank you so much Zildjian! This was an absolutely unforgettable moment in my life! And was such a joy to play with Ghost-Note! Also thank you people for the comments!
Yeah, stinks we lost him. Luckily Eric Moore has taken his health seriously and trimmed down a bit. Neil Peart, Jordison, Blackwell, Spears, and more and made their departure lately. Such great drummers.
The thing is, Gergo is not only an absolutely astonishing drummer, but he writes the most interesting and complex music too. I know he looks up to drummers like Vinnie and all the greats that came before, but he’s almost unique in respect to how much music he’s written and performed as well. I believe he plays bass really well too as well as keys. Gergo is without doubt one of the most talented musicians on the face of the planet. Genius.
That song was Gergo's composition and arrangement. Billy Cobham was his greatest inspiration and his major influences on drumming were mostly black drummers. At this point in the evolution of drumming it is no longer who is the fastest, who can play eight ostinatos over the bar with independence; many drummers can now do this. Its about being able to convey your soul in every note no matter how seemingly insignificant. Grego does this. Gadd does this (and many others, don't get upset that I missed your or your favorite's name). This man is in good company.
We have reached the speed limit for quite some time now, have we reached the rhythmic perception/coordination limit? Not quite, but we are getting close.
@@jimkowalczyk7466 Correct Jim (thank you for the Spock reference) there will always be someone faster and more coordinated. That's the beauty of evolution. Close is an asymptotic relationship to the infinite.

I think I've watched this 100 times. Firstly want to thank Zildjian for the incredible production because it sounds phenomenal. All the musicians are obviously incredible and that is evidenced in their many performances - particularly the cross over with Snarky Puppy live performances. Gergo has a uniqueness and a relaxed conservation of movement that facilitates his speed and power. For all of the technical ability it never feels un musical, ever. There are some amazingly fast and technical players about that I just cannot connect to and I'm starting to realise that I think it's because I reject the ego that comes through their playing. With incredible skill, if you cannot reign your ego in, it can be to the detriment of amount of the soul you can express through your instrument. I never get that feeling in Gergo's playing. The linear precision aspects are not stiff because there is so much dynamic control and play around and over the barline within complex time signatures. It's just joyful to listen to and obviously this is supported by the skill of the other musicians. Most good producers know that you can have all your ducks in a row with your mic choices and desk and equipment and space but if you can't create an environment in a session where musicians feel good and able to perform at their best you will never capture the best performance. This is an absolute all round masterclass in capturing a performance and everyone involved deserves applause for the thousands of hours of learning and listening that culminated in that room on that day.
