    Hi Nick. Fantastic retoration on the transporter. I have just purchased one but I am a newbie [more like and oldie really] to Dinky restoration so I was wondering what paint you used for this one. I have found one called sky blue on ebay that seems quite close. But I wondered what you used? If you don't mind sharing?
    Many Thanks, Roger

    • @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739
      @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roger and thank you, the blue paint I used was holts acrylic car paint but it had no colour name or code on the spray can, I just went by the colour of the cap, it isn’t quite the right shade of blue, slightly darker but not too far off, the brown was Humbrol dark brown, number 29 in a spray can, again not quite the right colour but not too noticeable.
      Hope this helps, all the best, Nick.

      @@crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739 Thanks for the information Nick. I will go by the colour on the can as you did. Just got to find something suitable. I'm saving my restoration of the transporter until I have finished some Jaguar XK120's I purchased recently. They are my practice pieces. One has some pitting on the roof and the sides that have not covered with my Hycote primer. I am hoping it will sand to a good finish. We shall see. Thanks again, Roger

    Hi Nick. Discoloured carrier film can often be 'cured' by leaving the decal in direct sunlight. The inks usually don't fade but the film does return to clear... loving your work.

    I've just watched this video again Nick. At the beginning you described it as a 4 rivet model, unfortunately not the 6 rivet version. Can I ask you please why you say, "unfortunately" not the 6 rivet version? Is the 6 rivet model better in some way, or easier to restore? I'm curious. 😁
    I've got 3 of these Bedford car transporters, one is original and in near mint condition. The other 2 have been painted (badly) so need restoring. Like yours they're 4 rivet models but the bases are light blue, not brown like yours. Does this make them earlier or later than yours? Was the 6 rivet model an early or later version?
    Both of yours that you showed looked super restorations, it was a very enjoyable video. All the best. Peter.

    • @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739
      @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Peter, the 6 rivet ones are more valuable if you have a good unrestored one, I think they were earlier models, I guess once you have restored it it doesn’t make a lot of difference as you will have devalued it anyway, I think the all light blue ones are earlier models but I can’t be one hundred percent sure on that, the ones with the dark blue cabs are the later ones.
      Take care, all the best, Nick.

      Thank you Glyn, I have tried before more than once to get paint on eBay but they won’t ship it to Jersey, I know they won’t send it by plane but not sure why it couldn’t come by boat not sure why it seems to be such a problem as the shops and stores manage to get their paint! I guess it’s worth having another try.

    Cracking Video- really enjoyed it. Interesting set up with the spray booth and I like what you did with that hose as I am reluctant to drill a hole in my external wall to get the hose through! What make is the spray booth? Take care in this Lockdown.

    • @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739
      @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Malcolm, the spray booth is model number HS-E420DCLK, if you google that number it will come up. You still get a strong paint smell with the way I have it, but you don’t get the spray paint particles going everywhere, you also need plenty air holes in the tub the pipe goes into not to put too much strain on the fan motor, as long as the holes are covered with some sort of sponge or filter like material. I only use it if the weather prevents me from painting outside.
      Hope this helps😊👍

      Thanks Nick,it is a somewhat addictive hobby.
      I just feel that by restoring these lovely toys it's paying homage to the people who went to work in Liverpool and Wales manufacturing the very toys and it was their income to feed and educate their own children and have their own holidays and of course Hobbies.
      It's in a way giving back.
      A Toy never retires it would seem.
      I have beenrooting on eBay for the projects and it's the postage n shipping to where I am in Dublin that throws me a bit.
      Bob Willis is having a trying time with his Partner unwell but gosh,he gets sent some bloody cracking good toys to restore.
      I've just bagged a couple of Daimler's Ambulance from same seller,I haggled him a wee bit on the postage and we agreed on circa £20.
      I do a little customising on my toys,purely painting in the many wonderful details you find in relief on the castings.
      Hope to show you a few finished toys in the future.
      The ole tyres are expensive aren't they?
      I only started the hobby late last summer.
      You might check out M.K. model supplies for spares and re casts,he's in Norway,good prices.
      Steve Flowers is not in trade
      like everything bar the grocers.
      Greatful we got food,water and a roof over our heads and... Some nice little tin orphans needing some paint and refurbishment.
      Best regards to you n yours.

    Hope your doing well Nick. Whose a lucky boy to have a missus who adds to your hobby. This looks like a bugger of a model to unassemble /reassemble . I think a concave nail punch would have helped with the wheels. The people who produce these reproduction pieces have a lot to answer for, I'd command a refund if they are faulty. They need to learn people wont pay for deficient parts. Even with all your troubles on this one very nice result.
