- HI ALL, WELL HERE WE ARE AT LAST, THIS TIME WITH THE RESTORATION OF A DINKY TOYS ROVER 75 ( NO.156) WHICH WAS KINDLY DONATED TO MY CHANNEL BY MR. MARTIN DARE. A PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD ONE BUT DID LEARN A LESSON WHEN I STUFFED KITCHEN ROLL INSIDE THE MODEL WHEN PAINTING THE LOWER HALF OF THE TWO TONE PAINT ON THE BODY SHELL, WHEN I REMOVED IT AFTER PAINTING IT LEFT A BIT OF FURRING AROUND THE WINDOW OPENINGS WHICH I ONLY NOTICED IN THE CLOSE UP SHOTS THAT YOU SEE ON THIS VIDEO, I HAVE SINCE RECTIFIED THIS SITUATION! I never liked the appearance of these cars but once I had a ride in one I realised what excellent cars the real ones are. Great renovation.

A lovely little restoration sir. Old Rovers are not especially common in the US, but my father's friend did have one when I was a young lad. I remember thinking it looked a bit frumpy, but my pop's friend loved it like a new bride.

Obviously some silver spooned 1960s hippy kid did the last paint job.
I'm happy for the car in that you have done it justice restoring it to a former glory. The paint work finish is very nice and attractive. It will display very well.

Excellent bit of masking work Nick and superb detailing too. Personally I like the 'chrome' hubcaps, I've done it on a few of my models too. I always fit treaded tyres as well even if they weren't fitted originally, they look so much better than the smooth ones.

I have a few variations on the 'Auntie' Rover theme, from a number of manufacturers, Nick, but no Dinky Cyclops. What a superbly detailed casting that was - for its year, remarkable. I'd have been tempted to run the second colour around the rear screen, leaving the bootlid in the pale colour, but I think your colour combo is nice. Pretty neat split, too! Nice one!
Thank you Fraser, I was tempted to put jeweled lights in it but then I thought with no windows or interior it would look silly, the two tone I wasn’t sure quite how I would do it so in the end decided to go with how Dinky did it, but I think it would look nice the way you have suggested, might have to get a couple more of these to do in different colour schemes and splits👍😊🐸🐸

Hi nick lovely resto if it helps you or others I've been trying different ways of applying molotow on those 70s 1.10 motorcycles I've shown you Martin.1 if you can air brush it do so..by far the best results 2. If you brush it and it looks crap don't brush more over the top it will only look worse clean it off and start again 3.once applied don't go any where near it it takes ages to dry.4 buying refill is best way of buying it . but when you get it right you can't tell it from proper chrome
Thank you Nigel, yes you’re results with the Molotow are superb, on those model motorbike pictures you sent me, the problem I had with the bumpers on this one was that because I had lacquered the model before applying the Molotow, it just wasn’t covering properly even applying it pretty thickly, not sure of a way around that other than like you say spraying it on, which would have meant a lot of masking and risking pulling paint off plus being very time consuming, time being something that I always seem to be short of lol🤦🏻♂🤔 All the best, Nick🐸🐸

hi again nick good to see you back.beautifull restoration again.nick what size drill bit do you use to drill out the rivits
I don’t use any one size in particular but often I will use a 5.5 mm, sometimes a 6mm, according to how pressed out the rivet head is, sometimes smaller than that, sometimes I will start off small with a 2.5 or 3 mm and then move up to the bigger ones, as a rule I choose one that is very slightly smaller than the actual rivet head so as not to damage the base if the drill goes a bit too far. I hope this answers your question and I haven’t confused things lol😁🐸🐸
