Small comment, but at 11:44, there is a caption saying the OG heel is more vertical. If you tighten the laces at the top 2 eyelets as much as on the OG (or even pinch them together with your fingers), the collar at the back would straighten up to the line of the heel :) Great comparison though!
Appreciate using the other factory comparisons. Best comparison I’ve seen and dispels the idea that OG 85’s universally looked the same. Especially seeing complaints of the wings logo placement/embossing.
Yep, exactly why I went into detail about the wings and midsole thickness etc. Some people comparing them saying they are off when they clearly don't know and understand there was different factories. The stp is definitely the closest specs for the 85 retro and most likely model used to reproduce

@@ogorbust1697 if only they made all Jordans with better quality with polyurethane insoles like they all use to be. They give us some cheap insoles, it’s ridiculous for the prices they charge. The insoles were even worse back in 2006+ they only recent became slightly better with a few og colorways with polyurethane insoles.

Since taken the time to build them in this manner, definitely very stp factory influenced. 3 pairs so far made with this shape hopefully we see more soon. Love the comparison… that leather analysis annoy me though😂the upper material is quite plasticky and is as thick as af1s. Definitely thicker that j1 retros but the leather is the same as on all white forces
Retro 85 leather definitely has a sealant on it I think your feeling that "plastic" like. The photoshopped black/red was even more so imo.. it would be great if they used banned air ship leather quality on retro 85s.. just nothing like the original 1s like oil and water lol

Yeah man, these 85 retros are must haves. Double up is a must for natural grey. Standard retro aj1s don't even come close. Only buy really appealing colorways these days
I think the more narrow look is just being broken in and laced around a foot tbh I feel like shoes look like thst over time depends on how you lace your shoes I feel like mine d

In terms of the next 85 I hope they get the toe box shape alot better and the back straighter, but for this release I wish they had done the sandpaper swoosh/leather ankle collar and got the grey darker at least.

You should watch my latest video with nike convention and court force. Blazers etc they have DIFFERENT shades of grey lighter and dark. Yet all labeled natural grey, just Jb misinformation as usual and now uneducated think the ogs and retros are all "neutral" not the case.
My BY factory chicago 1s are my most treasured babies. my game plan is to swap the outsole with the newer retro 85 outsole and give em a nice restoration.
After watching it, I love the 1985 silhouette. It's higher and tougher than retro. And the quality, even the retro is good enough, but the OG is better.

Perhaps Nike calls these neutral grey and not natural grey because it is a different color. The grey of the Jordan logo is obviously a much lighter tone on the 2021's. Perhaps this tone is named neutral grey and the darker tone of the OGs in '85 is natural grey. Obviously these little quirks on Nike's part are intentional though they certainly may lead a collector to scratch their head and wonder why Nike always has to tweak it a little bit. My question is, have they released any shoes in natural grey recently?
i tried to buy the neutral greys on nikes website, i placed my order in at 10 oclock exactly, maybe a second or two past 10am, and i didn't get the shoes. i got all butthurt and told myself i was done collecting shoes. a few weeks later, i ended up buying three freaking pairs of the neutral greys for resale prices of about $580 each pair, tax and fees included in the price. nike pisses me off with these damn jordans. as a collector, i need them, and they know that!
Lol yeah man, the natural grey was definitely a must have. Well worth it, they'll only go up. Never released since 1985 and I imagine they will be waiting a long time again before they return.
You know you can lace the retro 85s just as tight as the OGs, right? The only issue is if you're worrying about resale and whatever, a shoe that's laced properly will change its shape.
@@ogorbust1697 that's not true though, I've laced my varsity reds tight with no issue, and their shape is changing to look significantly closer to the OG. Keep in mind the leathet starts out stiff so it's obviously not gonna want to bend out of its original shape until it's broken in.
@@TyyyJ sure, I could tighten the retro 85 more so but both are laced with the same tension. My black/red 85 are ds and weren't laced for example and the panels were closer together without being laced. The OG shoes were a bit more narrow overall as I pointed out front on shot of both of these. That plays a role as well in shape and how they are built
@@ogorbust1697 I won't argue that OGs aren't a bit narrower or perhaps more tightly constructed but when laced tight and broken in the retros do a pretty good job of replicating the original. The biggest differences in the shape in my eyes are the back of the shoe which is a bit more curved, perhaps due to some added bulk on the retro due to thicker layered materials used in that area and the toe, where I think they made the mud guard too tall on the sides at least and the top panel too narrow. I don't mind how it looks and it's miles better than the 2015 style retros but it's definitely a bit different from the OG.
@@TyyyJ No retro will ever totally replicate the OG, different materials, build etc. The retro 85 is definitely the best AJ 1 retro to date and more than happy with how they look. Comfort wise too they are really great.

I love how some of the 85 pairs are super high. Those are the OG 1s I like the most.
I also noticed that a lot of the OG's seem less wide then the retro's. I have a slim foot so the retro's my feet slid around.

What about the Insoles from both of the shoes?

I just wish they’d switch over to the 85 cut retro for all mee Jordan 1s. It’s far closer to the 85 original it’s just a better look if you ask me.

If swapping the outsole/midsole that is definitely the route you'd want to go. Retro 85 definitely mocked the OG pretty close.

They are both laced the same, one isn't tighter than the other. As I point out in the video, the OG lays more narrow up the foot.
