  • Thanks to Guro Brandon Ricketts for the invite to meet and spar with Kuya Ronnie Buenafe: A Guro of Ricketts Ilustrisimo, Manaoise Sinco Teres from Pangasinan, and Dog C-Ala E of the Dog Brother Clan. I was happily shocked by how non-telegraphic, precise with timing, and powerful his strikes were. Thanks again Kuya Ronnie for a great day!
I aim to bring my skill to his level... still shocking to take in that he's 60. Even though this was padded, he left purple bruises on me that lasted 10 days before clearing up.
I pulled my Doblete Rapilon out of cold storage to honor one of my teachers Jose Mena by sharing some of his old Luneta Flavor with Kuya Ronnie. Doblete Rapilon was originally a Mena family system from Ilo-Ilo. I added some footage from a demo he did in the early 00s. His laughter, gumption for life, and skill are missed.
For the original footage of Jose Mena visit • Great Grand Master Men...
For the sparring music I used "Filipino Kudyapi/kutyapi music, but it's a trap beat - Kudyapi Trap" beat.by Aizn • Filipino Kudyapi/kutya... Do check out and subscribe to his channel so he can keep making great music!
Also at the end is Rosas Pandan - Solo Guitar - Paul Adrian Moldez • FILIPINO TRADITIONAL S... another great Filipino music content creator. Please watch, like, and subscribe to support him.

I was very curious about the art of Doblete Rapilon; even seeking to learn it. I was under the impression that it died out in the Philippines with GM Mena. I live in the Philippines and could not find anyone who could tell me anything about if anyone is still teaching it. The only thing I could find online about the art was concerning a GM Mena student teaching in France.

exactly , can not find anything about this style. Everything is reffered to Dany Faynot. Maybe the style is under contract with military organisation(?). How come nothing about his family keeping the system alive?

Do you ever notice that none of the parryings, checking, disarming and footwork ever show up in this video or in most Arnis/kali tournaments? This is a testament that all these Kali systems developed in FMA get thrown out of the window, and people resort to basic hacking and hitting.

disarming is just for ordinary person. try disarming a trained fighter and you basically dig your own grave.
and in this video i watch it. its say head target only match. si basically they ignore the footwork and just. gmhit and hit. to get the head. in real fight. you just have to move your foot or else you'll die..
when rules change. the fighting quality change. 😊.
      .
rules for the head not for arms or body
they even have a padded training sticks. 🤣🤣.
so what else do you expect?.
      i see a fotwork.
kali ilustrisimo is nit need to. move and move unnecessary. its precise and evasive. if you try a fancy move on trained fighter you just dig your grave also.
so the basic is the most important.
      basic sdtrike+ footwork= advance tecnique

@@biologicalstatistics3320 in kali arnis tournament like modern arnis is just for training. i can say its rubbish . where you hit and hit.
but there is a. sparring like the first hit wins. like hit the arm. bhead or body.

Nothing got thrown out the window, This is a headhunting foamed weapon match on pavement with short weapons, not a full on spar involving grappling nor an actual death match. Disarms are very difficult to do and require good skill/timing, and other guy has to be poorly skilled. It's absolutely ridiculous to think arnis disarms were developed for no reason, When countless other warrior and soldier cultures like medieval knights (HEMA) and Japanese Samurai (Aikido/Kenjutsu/Jujutsu) also developed disarms, and modern militaries are taught modern CLEARLY there was a strong reason and need for doing so, When warriors are fighting to death and say screw it and decide to charge at each other. The whole mainstream gay reddit "Only muay thai+boxing+bjj work" mentality isn't going to cut it. You're going to need know how to handle your opponent's weapon and get it out of his hands. And NO Sports arnis tournament matches are not reflective of true arnis. The closest you'll get is either dog brothers or videos where arnis fighters are going up against HEMA practitioners. Here's an example of a solid arnis practitioner going against a hema fighter: th-cam.com/video/L4JIY8uoFRA/w-d-xo.html Arnis is more tried and tested than even boxing, It's not supposed to look pretty like a kung fu movie th-cam.com/video/biXpNl9VJcQ/w-d-xo.html Here's another example. If you know anything about sword/stick/machete fighting then you'll clearly be able to see the setups and logic in the senior's movements that isn't basic hacking and cutting
