Love this. As a practitioner of Kali Escrima (Ilustrisimo) and Silat, these things may look easy to do but they are not in fact when you have a real sparring session. Specially if you're dealing with another trained individual. It boils down not only to technique, but sheer speed, and reflexes. You'd be amazed how quick some people can be the blade and how deadly they could actually be. It takes many years of practice, of repetition, of creating real life scenarios. But, at the same time, it is great to learn. It is a great valuable experience.

Grand Master Oliver is awesome in his method and training method. I have viewed many knife training videos and by far this is the best.
I am more of a gun guy, but after getting stabbed by a knife I wanted to learn what to watch out for and how to avoid getting stabbed ever again.
I used to own a night club and we did see our share of fights, but the bouncers always broke it up and threw one or both parties out. The night I got stabbed was a typical night the club was about to close, last call was already called and I was in my back office counting up the drawers and closing up, when I heard some commotion and saw on the security camera screen that there was some argument happening with the bartender and a client. I walked out of my office to see what was taking place (bad move) and when I reached the bar I saw 2 guys arguing with the bartender to let them have one more shot. I had never seen these guys before and I told them that we really cannot sell them anything as our license doesn't permit us to sell after 2 am. While I was sorting things out a regular customer of ours crept up on my side and before I saw, he had stuck a knife in me, in my lower right side. It was a sharp pain and blood gushed out of me like a sprinkler... everyone moved back and my bouncers had the guy in a choke lock and then on the floor. I was shocked at what had happened and seeing who stabbed me.. a quiet little guy who was a regular. I started walking to my office door thinking shall I pull the knife out of my belly or just let it be.. I had a few of my employees by my side by then... I remember looking down at the floor I could see a big blood trail. I felt dizzy and the bouncers had me up off the ground and placed me on the table. I could hear sirens and then someone shaking me to wake me up. The paramedics had arrived, while I had become unconscious, they woke me up placed all sorts of stuff on me and secured the knife, which was still sticking out of me, with some sort of duck-tape and we were off to the hospital. Later the doctor said that it was good that I didn't pull the knife out, because if I had then most likely I would have been dead.
The S.O.B. who stabbed me had no recollection of his actions and was very sorry that he stabbed me. He told the court that he was afraid and he wanted to stab the other guy he thought but he stabbed the first guy he saw... F**king creep. They said that he was on medication and the alcohol made him delusional. He was termed to have suppressed aggressive behavior disorder... What ? I sold the bar for whatever I got and came out of that business. Oh one thing I didn't mention, the bouncers who are supposed to check everyone, didn't check the regulars and thus this jerk had smuggled the knife in his pocket.
Lesson ONE: Stay in the office and be ready call the police. Lesson Two: Check everyone including employees for weapons and Lesson Three: Never let anyone come close to you. I had a lot of sympathizers and everyone gave advice. But the advice I gave myself was the 3 lessons I mentioned.
I also have been shot before, but that is another story.

Fwiw, I'm sorry that happened to you, and I support your 3 lessons! There is another video with Garduce where he explains that you will not see a knife attack from someone who is really trying to hurt you. So, best advice is to stay away from anyone who suspect might come at you with a knife.

Brother, don't take it to heart too much.
If you can, You gotta be free of any bitterness over any of it
      It is better for you.
Time helps a lot in regards to the journey with such events. I have personally been involved in life or death combat situations throughout my life.
I grew up on the mish ( Indigenous mission) and in one of Australia's hardest towns.
Non--Indigenous people out there can't really safely go outside after around 8pm at night, and everything is settled by warfare.
Knife happy methed up brothers and sisters chargin around everywhere. People fighting with machete, sticks, clubs, traditional weapons, star pickets, and guns are used often also, usually to maliciously wound though, occasionally, people are shot dead. No murders are basically ever solved out there.
      Noone EVER talks.
Two tribes that were at war for over ten thousand years were put together on one mission. Warfare ever since too, cuz, to this very day. Police wou😮ldn't really go near the mish anymore when I was last out that way.
I am mapped in scars now. My worst wounds were 3 stab wounds to the neck ( sneak go attack without any aggression or any warning whatsoever...) Nose bitten almost clean off, hanging by a thread, and blind in the right eye.
Am 46 years old and lived, and loved, and fought my way around and through it all somehow surviving to be here talking with you here and now.
Best of luck on the rest of your journey. Onward!!🤙

  • @aly8380

Lots of comments saying how running away is best.
    Agree. But.
What if you stumble in your haste especially because your are actually thinking of what is behind you.
What if the guy with the knife runs faster than you.
What if you cannot run away because of your surroundings or because you cannot leave behind someone else.
Knife defense training has its place.
Like fire insurance, hopefully you won't ever need it.
Because when you do need it, you need it very very badly.

Seems like the same empty hand defense that u say won't work (in your other vid). Knife attack is intense, wild, all over the place - and he can use his free hand to assist - I've NEVER seen stuff like this work in sparring (with blunt tip but hard practice knife) - if I were to attack, it would be one (MAYBE two) quick slice at a time with my other hand assisting.

    • @MrDonkyr
      @MrDonkyr ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm completely agree with you but you don't see techniques like this in sparings because this drills, arest techniques and secure the weapon techniques are changed and made for police, security officer and other professions like these. This techniques work good when there are at least two of you and your purpose is to catch alive the bad gay. If you are alone you need survival and killing techniques and never concentrate only on the armed hand because how you say there have one more hand and you don't know is there have second blade or you will take some punches(the bed things is the most of instructors don't explain this) 🙂✌

I think this was trolling at its finest! I think they are making fun of viewers that believe this really how things work! It was an inside joke. I have had to defend against knives, hammers axes chains you name it. You have to get it done in the first two moves and it will always be different. Practice has to be very dangerous and the whole going back and fourth thing is going to get you into a mindset in which you won't go for your only chance to thwart the attack which is only possible at the very start of the encounter. Back and forth training will result in the belief you can thwart the attack several moves into the engagment. The angrier and more emotional the attacker is the faster and harder the initial attack is the easier it is to thwart. A cold blooded intelligent use of a weapon of any kind still must be thwarted or you get wounded in the first two moves nothing changes except your chances of dominating the encounter is very slim. It's ok to politely beg for your attacker to stop or not to begin in the first place, that is more effective than going physical. A lot of times an attacker is either is drunk or high or suffering a manic phase of a mental illness and thinks you are someone he has a beef with or thinks your the one threatening him allowing for you to begg for mercy letting him know you are not the guy that banged his girlfriend last tuesday. Another very effective approach after you have really and purposefully done something to make the person want to stab you is to ignore him. Don't look at him more than a glance turn your back as you make a phone call and when the would be attackers confusion replaces his outrage his breathing will slow and he will start to move around in a restless and frustrated manner. That is when you apologize say your sorry and tell the guy the truth. I used to do jobs that put me in that situation fairly regularly. The guy will appreciate you explaining yourself and even telling him about previous situations you've been in so long as they happened recently. How do you know whether to beg, ignore or thwart? If the person attacks you trying to put the Burton you then you have to thwart the attack or in some way move into a place that geometrically makes the attack impossible like climbing inside your car or any car or get creative and go inside the guys house and lock him out then find away back out or arm yourself with anything laying around. The more unusual your defense is the more likely you will survive longer than the attacker can maintain their anger. If you have a weapon but need to deploy it running into any house shutting the door deploying your weapon and aggressively presenting yourself as ready to engage will stop the attacker at the threshold. This works best if you are doing it in his or a friends house. You have to attack the second he steps across the threshold. I have never had anyone step across the threshold using that technique. It is what I call a crazy Ivine which is when a submarine runs away from a pursuing opponent only to circle back around and accelerate at your opponent trying to arm them. You can use variations of this tactic in an infinite number of ways. If your opponent does not immediately attack you then you chose to beg or ignore based upon your situation. If you did nothing to anger the person and have no idea who he is begging is a good bet. When he hears your voice he will realize you are the wrong person or you were never a threat. He might get you a beer and want you to leave on friendly terms. Whatever he offers you a beer or hit off a joint or pipe take it say you have never done it if that is true but you will do it now. Talk a while and refuse to drink another beer or take another hit using a bit of self deprecation and head out. If you use the ignore strategy just let the guy know your sorry and you won"t do whatever you did to outrage him again and walk away. If you thwart the attack and the attacker stops bewildered or simply loses his motivation go ahead and talk him down from there usually saying you will walk away right now or you will kill him or put him down. Works better than you might think. You never deal with an armed attacker with just your physical skills that is the biggest mistake you can make and never do anything predictable the more bizarre your defense the more likely you'll take away the anger. When you do something the attacker has never seen before it forces him to think about the situation in a logical confused manner then start to formulate a response and he is likely to lose that rage and become almost docile. May just stand their frozen in thought. You'll never survive empty handed encounters with armed assailants (armed as in weapons not firearms. The second amendment is not just about firearms. A knife is a type of arm) you'll never survive just using some move you learned in some class you took. If you are going to hardware a defence your training partner needs to go all out and you need to thwart the attack right away. Back and forth training gets you killed. The exception to all of this is if your already a freaking bad as street predater with decades of experience and you disagree with everything I've said based upon you methods and beliefs. There are lots of street knights who will think every one of my recommendations will get you killed but Bruce Lee said to know a way is to understand something about all ways. Everyone needs to find their own way.

In full speed most of those techniques are utterly useless and most attacks are prison style where they are using a leveraging arm to pull you in and stab multiple times aggressively. Also try switching hands with a blade in the middle of an adrenaline dump when your fine motor skills are non-existent. Not gonna happen.

The last ten knife murders in my country have been complete surprise attacks. The knife was in and out before the people even felt the pain. Knife attackers do not square off, show you the knife then allow you to do your "techniques." They come from behind and are gone even before you start bleeding. Knife "defence" is BullShitto.

The thing is, be contextual. If someone sneaks you with a gun, the same outcome. So do you not practice? It's all about the skill, to increase your chances, in a violent/deadly force encounter. Not pass everything off as crap. Situational Awareness is very important and understated in S.D. scenarios. Stay alert

@@johnashley642 So you completely missed my point. Or something ...
So explain to me how your training helps you deal with being stabbed in the back while you are waiting for the bus?
How do you practice for that?
How does your S.D. prepare you for from behind surprise attacks?
What so-called self-defense techniques do you employ when the attacker is gone before you start bleeding?
These are rhetorical questions - you have no practical answers and you know it.
If you do answer, NO RED HERRINGS - talk about being attacked from behind by surprise with a knife and only that ... please.
      Cheers!

All training is great, but knife fighter tend to strike in quick rapid fire stabs. So I am just not sure about blocking a strike t his. So many issues, someone who knows how to fight will not hold their knife like that they hold it backward and against their arm. Slash slash…. One last thing, understand the physics of distance. A guy as far as 10 feet to 15 can be on you in an instant. Two big steps…

Remember knife fighting is just one skill of a warrior.. that's not the real thing in the video...a warrior will try acquire everything to defend himself..from guns to assassin's... it's just a drill or an exercise.. it's fun...
