Thank you so much for talking about the warranty. I did not know they had the warranty and I called them up because I have the X4 and the felt has come unglued multiple times. They just needed proof of purchase and a couple pictures for the warranty claim and I believe they are going to send me the X4S!

If you look in the bed of most pickup trucks near the rear, you will find an indention or molded slot for a 2x4, or 2x6 or whatever 2x you like on each side to slide a board across the bed about a foot or two. This is to keep crap from sliding toward the front of the truck like groceries or pop. Install one and you won't need the walking cane to retrieve junk that made its way to the front.
I had the x2 for 4.5 years. It was great. Almost no water came in except for at the tailgate from the top seal/ends where it doesn’t seal well. Fast forward to my new truck and the X4s disappointed. The first one the aluminum slats came apart just from rolling it on the 3rd day I had it. The second one that sent me wasn’t wide enough to lock into rails. The third one is leaking water through the top vinyl. It’s not repelling water at all and is still full of water days later. When you roll it up the water seeps out onto the side rails and down into the bed. They’re sending me an MX-4. Love the look of the X4S but I’m going to take my chance on something else. Just tried to install my x4s today and it’s defective. Hope this is not a trend with hoping to get a replacement

My mx4 leaked and was defective.
They sent me a replacement and still water came thru the panels. Too much water gets in the bed. Now they are sending this roll up cover, I’m hopeful but not confident that this one will work for me.

Both of my clips have broken now on my X4. Otherwise I still love it. Been over 4 years of Minnesota brutal winters and it's held up well.

I use cargo net bags anchored just behind the tailgate for groceries. Groceries and kids backpacks fit great. For stuff like 36 can sodas cases I can still fit them between the net and tailgate and it does a great job keeping things still from sliding deep into the bed.
I havent had any issues with the X4, but I do like the flat black finish and those plastic covers that cover the seal towards the back on the x4s.
A good upgrade a few years up the road when it finally goes.
Just put this cover on my new Mav and took it through the wash same leakage pattern. Thought I put it on wrong. Glad to know it just is what it is.

I just fixed my felt fabric that started coming unglued after a trip to Alabama last Spring ... I re-glued it using commercial grade Lock-tite spray adhesive; hopefully it holds as it was a pain having it droop and flapp around in the back.
I like the 'grabber' pole you got. I simply use an extendable bar across the wheelwell in the truck bed; gives me room for bags, cases of drinks, groceries, etc and stops it from flying around in the back
Had the same issue….re-glued it once started slagging again…..then the exterior vinyl started becoming unglued…re-glued it once and it started coming up…..trashed it and put a gator recoil tonneau on it…
Nice review. Minnesota Tacoma owner here... My felt came off on my original revolver... and I soon learned that the felt is to protect your fingers from getting pinched in between the aluminum slats (maybe not because of or in addition to hot aluminum slats as you point out). Beware.
I've had three of those covers, and I love them; I just bought a new 2022 GMC Sierra AT4, and I have it shipped to a Linux dealer in Placerville, California. I'm want to have them install it; I installed the other three, but I've severely torn my right rotator cuff, and it's worth it to let them do the installation.
I WOKE UP ONE DAY COULDNOT RAISE MY arms past my elbows 21 pt session later I say I will watch a pro do it

The felt tape falling off issue was of concern for me too, really happy to see that they fixed that issue and the small stuff too! Nice pointing out the new way the tailgate seal works, I let people borrow my truck from time to time so know where you're coming from.

Just traded in my Ridgeline for a Ram 1500. Had a tri fold cover and it was okay. Looking for a review on a rolling cover and glad I found this.
FYI...a ratcheting load bar set about 18-24" from the tailgate, helps keep items from sliding towards the cab. Most run $25👍🏻

I have the same issues, felt coming off,rubber peeling up, straps snap. This was my 2nd warranty replacement same issues. Now I’m waiting on my 3rd cover, I will say the warranty they give u is great, never a issue with getting the issues resolved. Great customer service.
mine x4 is 4.5 yrs old and is really coming apart The cover is seperating on the edges and cracking between the slots. What is the warranty process?
After one year my X4S was delaminating all the way around. Getting a warranty replacement was like pulling teeth. I've seen the same complaint all over the web. Even with a new replacement cover, I wouldn't buy BAK again.

I have the X2 and my fabric underneath due to the heat has came undone I need to get it glued back together and yes the clip design is awkward 😬 . But I’m loving the look of the new X4 and the cloth was replaced with that nice rubber look and the clips is genius 😮 . I’d love to send them back mine to get credit for a newer model 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The new one is a definite improvement, but I've seen complaints of the corner pieces at the tailgate end falling off. I'd still choose the Truxedo Sentry. Both are same manufacturer and same price point.

Ha, yeah it’s a though one if you are looking to invest in a good one. I still love mine! 5 year warranty is great peace of mind on an investment like this too.

Someone tried breaking into my retrax pro and couldn’t bust the lock and tried it pry it the sides but failed, they tried to grind it but my neighbor heard it and scared them off!
You can eliminate the need for that retriever tool by installing a truck bed mesh cargo net. They work great for securing groceries and/or packages from sliding around the cargo area.
Unless your bed is full front to back. Yeah yeah, you can roll the top. I get that. But being an older dude with failing knees... I can see where that would come in handy and save me from climbing in and out 😁

Just installed my x4s…
2 big quality control issues with mine.
One end cap was broken from the cheap plastic they use to secure in place with.(hopefully customer service sends a replacement)
Very thin metal shavings inside the rollup that got everywhere while installing.
Install was easy and it looks great. Lets see how it holds up in a few months now
I have had 2 of the bak covers.
I live in Texas and yes it’s always hot in the summer.
I think that the first cover I had on my 2014 f-150 was the aluminum model with some type of vinyl cover.
My latest F-150 2020 was same cover.
Both no problems in the first year of ownership.
The second summer for both the underlining May for rolling covers up fell off.
The glue would not hold them up.
I tried to repair each one with different glues but to no avail.
Now the cover I put on in 2020 just literally fell apart.
The vinyl cover on top the aluminum slats started shrinking and I mean shrinking.
Last week I tried to roll it up and upon trying to lock it back the slats just came apart and of course the vinyl let go.
I removed it and took it to the curb.
I think it’s time to move on to a different cover!
@boogiedahomey I am glad I see this post before placing my order. In Texas as well. How about the warranty? Did they get you a replacement?
BAK needs to come out with a rotary opening knob like EXTANG did with the XCEED. Thieves have found ways to stick wires in betwwen the cover and tailgate to hook the pull wire and open the cover no problem. I had an XCEED on my last truck and wanted to get one of these roll ups on my new one, but I'll go for the EXTANG XCEED, hard flip cover again, strictly because of the rotary opening knob. EXTANG has even upgraded their most popular cover, the SOLID FOLD with a new rotary knob. BAK definitely needs to catch up on this, in my opinion. I just found out that EXTANG has an upgrade for the XCEED, called the ENDURE ALX.

I really want to get one but I’m worried about how long it will last considering the reviews I have seen of the x2 and the x4 regarding the vinyl ripping or the glue coming off. How many years do you think it should last and how has it been for you so far?
I just installed an X4s on my truck. I have the tonneau closer to the tailgate. When I first installed it I could close the tailgate manually but it wouldn't close all the way using the fob, it would drop again. I left it closed and the heat of the sun formed a seal against the tailgate. Now it closes on its own and has a much better seal. I haven't taken it through a car wash yet but I have to assume it will work better. I'll report back.
My X4s doesn't keep the bed completely dry, but I never expected it to. The tailgate gets wet, not soaked. The rest is mostly or completely dry. I'm happy.
In addition to my other comment, the felt on the interior X4 which is designed I understand for noise reduction also had a glue failure.
I had to choose a bed cover for a company truck GMC AT4. I had just a few minutes on the fly to let the office know what i wanted so they could order it for me. I google searched for a roll up bed cover and I saw this one and picked then sent the link to the girls in the office. I was told by the installer that it was the best roll up cover on the market. I was very happy with my 2 minute search. Never once did it leak and looked great. I changed jobs and had to give back the AT4. I just recently bought a new Chevy Z71 and will be buying one for my new truck as well.

Love the new version. Only drawback is, when I load my truck. The locking latches restrict me from using the full width of my truck.
I'm concerned I would bent or break those latches if I was loading something heavy and near the sides of the bed. Anyone have that problem or am I being paranoid for no reason?

You never talked about the fading/sun bleaching of the vinyl. Do you know of any protectants that are recommended for keeping the vinyl in a “like new” appearance?
303 Aerospace protectant - I've used that for years on my black trim pieces on my vehicles. This being some type of vinyl will benefit from the same.
They should make a giant sardine can tool that sticks out the side so you can use it to roll the cover open.
Seriously though, after having the flip back tri-fold one and the roll back, which would you choose? I really like the roll back one I am just worried about how the vinyl will hold up in the brutal Arizona sun.

I have the exact X4 cover. After 2 1/2 years, the glue failed on the right side. I do not keep it in the garage. I live in Florida. The heat seems to have taken a toll on the glue and in fact, the vinyl pulled away on the right side of the vinyl top such that it had to be replaced. Thankfully, it is being replaced under my Ford F150 three year warranty just before it expired. I’m not sure if they are going to replace it with the X4 or the X4S. We’ll see.
Put one on yesterday. Easy to install. Looks great. Works great.

How easily do those plastic pieces come off on the very end of the cover? I'm worried about going through the car wash and them popping off.
They do only snap in. If you’re worried about it, bit of 3M automotive double sided tape would make them rock solid. I saw someone do that once.

Great video, looks to be the best cover for my needs out there, don't have my truck yet (yeah laugh it up, I'm going with a Ridgeline very soon, I call it a truck, but even the doubters have to admit it is a REALLY nice minivan) but this is on my shopping list and will be purchase #1.
I am going to order this new cover, I love the way you showed the old one and what you would like to see fixed, I also love the new design of the tie down strap. My /18 sierra has original cover and I really like these roll ups with the slats that are very strong. Great video.

Had cover 4 years for personal use and top rubber coating cracked up. Also on ram box the side rail make it to narrow to haul a piece of plywood over tailgate. Felt on inside fell off and rear real like yours letting go. Also doesn't seal up behind ram boxes and tailgate. Like the way it installs and works but quality isn't there.
Also had kids hockey Equiptment stolen out of back. Not that hard to get into it. I think they just pulled up and didn't break but still got in. (Truck was locked and tailgate)
I had a bak flip g2 for 12 years, it didn't leak, very protective against theft, but plastic clips broke over time, and the plastic clips on the end broke, and it was impossible to see when i put my tires n it

Too soon on this x4s, but with your x4 did you have winter time issues opening and using the cover?
I am on my second one ...the first one began to unseem itself I began to see the white insulation on the cross slats
What brand/link and how deep into the bed can you store things? Thin space like groceries or slightly deeper like a storage tote or 2
Thanks for this video I’m almost confident you sold me on this as my next truck bed cover. I love everything about it. I was gonna do bakflip mx4 but I want access to the rear cameras on my truck by cargo light when rolled or set up.

Does anyone know the build material difference from x2/x4 and does the x4 rattle make noise while driving like the x2 . That’s my biggest complaint is the noise

Great review, im planing to upgrade to this cover as well just one more thing is missing from it a secure lock where u can lock it to the rail on both sides so u cant slide any hook under and pull on those wire and open it until u unlock it with a latch with key or something. If it would have that would be the perfect cover still im gonna get one !

Pray tell comrade..., would there be a little rod or crank that could slide in the end of that roll, so as to roll it up or unroll it past the wheel well of a duly pickup?
My felt came completely off.
The heat doesn't bother me it's the pinching of the hand that is bad as you unroll the top.

I have their (BAK) quad fold cover and love it but it’s 12 years old and I’m thinking about a replacement. With my current cover I had times when I would need to flip open one or two of the sections to allow for taller items to be fit into my bed. If I would get this new cover of yours, how does the roll stay secured if only open 1 1/2 - 3 feet from the tailgate? Thanks
You should check out my latest video if you want a roll up that stops part way. It’s by roll-n-lock. This one does require you roll it up all the way if you want to secure it.

I'm considering this cover for my Chevy truck. Have you ever had any issue hitting or having something catch on those locking latches that stick out?
How does the cover do in cold, freezing weather? I've seen a few YT videos of them unable to unlatch or roll.

No idea, just tired it on the Chevys. Is it like a T-Slot system? I’ve seen other bed covers use those.
I'm curious how well that top side cleans up over time..some materials seem to absorb dust more than others and you end up losing that black look over time
Holding up well here in Minnesota. I do have it in a garage in the winter months though. I still recommend this cover most. Love it’s look and functionality.
Did you say the bed cover can be partially rolled back or needs to be fully rolled back when the bed is in use for bigger items?
From what I understand you can partially stop wherever you have the middle mounting bracket for the side rails. However, if you look at the overall design you do need to buckle down the rails in order to prevent them from rolling so ultimately that's where you want the cover to roll up to.
"you lose your 12 pack of pop" tell me you're from the north without telling me you are from the north. Hahaha I'm a Texas boy that lived in Iowa for 8 years. I never got used to saying pop lol.
Get the Rough Country hard rolling tonneau cover. It’s half the price and the quality is better IMO.

I was wondering if one could have roof racks mounted with the revolver x4s system installed. Has anyone done that?
I have a BAK Revolver X2 from 2015 with a TracRac SR sliding rack that I added in 2017, which has worked very well. If I remember right, the TracRac sliding rails are mounted through the stake pockets of the truck, and I think there are some hard rubber shim strips between them and the truck rails to keep it all level.
Do you have any special pricing for the X4S? Really like my X4 however the X4S really looks like a better design. Great review.

Are these roll-ups an issue in cold weather?
I tried three times to get this cover. Not one of the three fit and I got my money back. They don’t seem to care at all about their customers. I did at least get to see the build quality and it didn’t seem like a great long term solution.
Great video and review. Very nice cover. One thing I didn't see was drain tubes attached to the rails at the front of the bed like on the folding covers. Does this cover require drain tubes like the flip covers? I apologize if you included it and I missed it. I was busy while trying to watch this video so I stopped and restarted a few times and may have missed that part. Thanks.
No drain tubes on this one. It makes a seal all the way around the top perimeter.

The MX4 had tubes that drained the water out. Do the revolvers not have that?

SKÖL neighbor! I am a big fan of this revolver X4s. I like how it’s always locked when the tailgate is locked. The roll-n-lock and Retrax I’ve reviewed had big canisters that get in the way as well as a second key to keep track of. I never use the key which means I’m rarely ever truly secure.
I just bought the x4... had no idea they had a newer model!
Both have a 5 year warranty and are great options. My dad bought my 2 year old X4 as soon as he heard about this video lol.
@@TruckOwnership101 i guess the most things i am envious of are the new color and tie down mechanism. other than that, it appeared to be mostly cosmetic upgrades, but still nice upgrades!
Great video!! Just wondering if a bed extender would be able to work with it? I seen other videos with the older model. That the locking levers would get in the way of it flipping in and out of the bed
The locking levers are identical to the old one, so they still might be an issue depending on the bed extender.
What is the price for x4 s
How does this keep the water out in the rain. Truck is the family vehicle so need to keep things dry.
It does a really good job. I keep my most important things in the center in the event a drip or two gets in from the sides, or some mist gets in from below the tailgate. They make dust seals for that area that might be worth looking into…
How does it handle in extreme cold especially in MN? Does it freeze and you can't lift up...
On the worst days sometimes the spring loaded side locks don’t twist to the open positions.

Man, my x4 felt fell off, straps, broke, vinyl top cracked in 3 spots. 2 years minor use.
Just had warranty replacement and was sent the x4s. Seems to be better quality in the tweaks made.
