Tip for protection application. Roll the cover back so you can treat it in sections while standing inside the bed. Lightly mist that section and wear a nitrile glove one hand, use that gloved hand to spread the product out as evenly as possible. You can just let it air dry or use MF towel to mop up any excess. FYI, 303 Protectant (blue bottle) or 303 Aerospace Protectant (white bottle) are same . We use this application method to treat convertible tops.
Well done video review. I recently had an X4S installed on my Ram 2500. The X4S does not have a generous waterfall front weather seal, the ends of the side rails are unfinished, basically cut metal. The side rail ends leave a sizable opening for water, insects, etc. to migrate into the bed. In addition to the tie-down options, yours is a much better and functional looking product.
Great video! I have the X4ts cover on order for my 2024 Canyon AT4. I already have the Elevate rack here ready for it and am going to have my kayak on one side and a locking cargo box on the other side. Should be a great setup.
Nice set up.. I have a 21 f150, and before that a 2017 RAM 1500, both with the x4s and Adarac rails .. the t-slot wasn't available at the time, and Adarac was one of the only compatible options. Good to see BAK finally caught up with demand!
Thanks! I was debating between this one and the regular X4s. Now that I know it can work with other accessories, I'm going with this one. Even if I never end up adding accessories, at least I have the option to do so if I decide to later one.
Nice review and will be interesting to see how can use the t-slot on the new model. I have been using mine since 2018 on my F150 and am always operating the cover for small loads. The weak point is the end plastic caps that can pop loose (thanks to BAK for replacements).
@@WaterFowler41 yeah I have a tri fold on my super duty and a cheap roll up on my rebel the revolver is the best imo I’ve had roll n lock too the cassette takes up too much space for me
Very good vid, thanks. And a beaut of a cover. The one thing that isn't clear, is how well this seals water out of the bed at the back end when the tailgate is closed, from the back corners across the center, and how that is accomplished. How well does this keep water out in various types of weather and power washing and such? Thanks.
Just wanted to say this is a fantastic video and I've never done it before but I used your affiliate link and bought myself one keep up on these kick ass videos
You can attach whatever you want to the rails BUT the trick is to find the correct t-slot bolts that drop into the rails. I would love to add some boat cleats to the rails but still not totally sure which t slot bolts are the most compatible.
Awesome video! One question that no one seems to clarify is for the bulkhead weather seal. Did you run the seal under the cover rails or stop it flush?
How does that rubber seal laying flat all along both sides hold its seal in the snowy cold of winter? Rubber softens in warmth but hardens in cold, at least rubber I am familiar with.
Haven't been through a winter with the truck yet but I don't foresee any issues with the rubber seal keeping the elements out of the truck bed. Any moisture that gets passed the seals ends up in the rails and will ultimately flow through the drain tubes.
@@WaterFowler41 Your answer makes sense, but where are those rails and flow tubes. I wish you or someone in their video demonstrated those. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen that explained or demonstrated in other videos either. I'll watch the video more again more close trying to see those if I can.
Awesome hopefully you used the link in the video description! As far as extra t bolts, I have a call in with the manufacturer, I’m trying to find some extras. My elevate rack came with some.
Hey great video, because of it i also purchased the same cover and in the process of choosing a rack system. I like the truxedo elevate but i rather not have one that is so high at all times (18” in the lowest position). I was looking for one that in its lowest position it’s able to accommodate the height of the cover in its rolled up position. Which is about 12” or so. If you know of one please let me know. Thanks!
Great video! Only thing I’m not sure about is the roll of ribbed stripping. It’s not mentioned in my Instructions or in any videos I’ve watched. I assumed at first it was to help seal the edges, but not seeing it in the videos. Where did you install?
Yup its for the front bulk head, there are two different seal options one for it you have a spray in liner (or no liner) and the other if you have a plastic drop in liner. The thinner seal is for when you have a drop in liner as the drop in is much thicker.
@@WaterFowler41 Thank You! I eventually got in touch with customer service. I mentioned maybe they should point that out in the instructions, but she didn't seem interested. Anyway, thanks again for the video. Made my install that much easier.
Thank you for this video. I will be going this route. Where can I find t-slot inserts to install some chase lights? I would like to mount a couple BD S2s or DD SS2s. Thanks in advance!
I sent an email over to Bak asking this, when I get some info I will post in the videos description. I ended up using extra hardware from my Elevate rack (later video) to install chase lights but I want some more t bolts and I cannot find them at a hardware store.
SDHQ just released a bed rail chase light mount for t-slot rails. Their website doesn’t list the bak revolver as a compatible bed but it does list other realtruck branded beds with t-slots. I just installed my x4ts yesterday and I’ll be ordering the SDHQ mounts this week. Hope this helps you with your build. Side note, did the aerospace 303 keep the bed looking new? Or did you go with something else? Thanks!
Can I get more info on the chase lights and how they are mounted? Or can you send me the link to the video? Thank you I subscribed to the channel over this video
I just installed the bak x4s on my 24 raptor and have an issue with the tailgate hiting the end of the cover when closing. Is there adjustment for that?
Curious what rack you went with. I have this on my 22 Tundra and was hoping my Yakima Overhaul would work but it does not. Only adjustable rack I found so far is Elevate.
Could you expand on why it didn't work, because I'm also struggling with this. Real Truck told me it would be compatible but I only ever see the Elevate rack on these. Did you try using the Yakima t-slot adapters on the OverHaul rack?
@@Adam-sn3fs It is the width of the Yakima bases at the bottom. They overlap the rubber seal on the x4ts by about 1 1/2 inches. To be able to use the cover you would basically be removing the entire seal. If you are ok with leaving the cover closed then yes the Yakima rack can be used.
@@Adam-sn3fs A little surprised they said that it would work. I even emailed the guy that does the install videos after and he was not surprised that it would not work.
@@Adam-sn3fs Yes I did try two different sets of the T slot adapters. I have the set from the Diamondback cover I sold plus I bought the Yakima tonneau cover adapter kit. The T slot adapters fit but the problem is the Yakima bases are too wide and overlap the rubber seal on the x4ts.
A t-bolt with a head that is 3/4" will work in the track for adding accessories. If you watch my Elevate rack install, you can see the bolts provided in that kit. They are 3/4" wide and slide right into the end of the track.
Not good State with hot Summer. The cover material gonna shrink and pull off both sides of the rails and at the back of bed cover 2 1/2 years later. The aluminum gets so hot, no glue can’t bond for long.
That happened to mine at about 2 years in. BAK is sending me new one with no hassles. They say they have improved the glue and quality of the cover. We shall see.
Assuming you are asking how much weight you can put on the rails since this isn't exactly a tonneau cover built for hauling loads like a Diamond back is, they don't list the specs for this cover but I would assume they are close if not equal to the specs of the Elevate t-slot rails which is 500 lbs when driving on road and 750 lbs when parked (rtt with people in it).
Why isn't anyone being honest with the quality of this cover? The title should be, Superglue Not Included. If you had an older BAKFlip from 10-yrs ago, you will be very disappointed with the amount of plastic. The locking mechanism used to be housed in aluminum - now it's thin, brittle plastic. The end caps are as well - they fall off way too easily. Upon receipt, all plastic parts were cracked and/or had fallen off. Even worse, of the four screw holes for the locking mechanism, only two were used per side - so the entire locking mechanism falls out when you try to use the cable. This would be fine if sold for $100 - that's about all it's worth. This isn't a cover for the working truck - it's there to get into place, be left alone and look good (assuming the endcaps don't fall off as you drive).
Sounds like you got a dud or are beating the heck out of the cover beyond its intended purpose. I’ve been extremely happy with the cover as have most across the forums. Regarding the 4 holes for 2 bolts per side, that’s not uncommon as many of these rails are used across different applications, cutting one type of bracket is a lot more efficient than cutting multiples when you look from a manufacturing lens. Also, 4 bolts aren’t going to provide any noticeable benefit over the two the cover requires.
Cover is brand new, unused, out of the box. And yes, partial assembly is a huge problem. The cable housing lifts off of the rail when trying to use the cable. They drilled four holes for mounting, but only used two. As for the old one with aluminum parts - yes I did beat on it for 10-years and, yes, it held up perfectly. Should have pulled it off before I sold the old truck!
Been looking for a real person using this and not just marketing guys. Thanks
Its an awesome cover! any questions let me know.
@@WaterFowler41Do you think that Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbars will fit, I saw that they are easy to remove.
