I had the old vinyl Bak Flip fold type that started to basically fall apart after 4 yrs. I didn't want to buy a new Tonneau cover since they are super expensive new but I found a smoking deal ($300) on a relatively new X4s with no dents or issues I found on FB Marketplace. The owner actually bought a used f150 that had this cover, which luckily was the same year as my truck and wanted to put a cab over camper on it. Luckily for me he put the X4s up for sale and I grabbed that cover quick. I drove 35 miles to his house to get because I new how great this cover was especially for the price. I did learn through other TH-cam sites to use Aerospace 303 on the cover to help with summer and winter weather wear. So far I have loved this cover and hope to get a long life out of it.
Nice review. I have had mine for over two years and it has been great. I purchased this own because of the appearance and the fact that the top is metal not fabric that can be cut through. I have to park outside and it has survived temps over 100 degrees and single digit winters. Two things that I don't like are that, as you mentioned, when it gets cold, icy, etc. it is almost impossible to roll up. That is a big concern if you haul stuff often. The second thing is I wish it could be opened and secured at partial lengths instead of having to roll it all the way up each time. Other than those items I would highly recommend this cover. Pricey? yes, but worth it to me for the appearance and security of the harder top.
I have had mine for about two years and it’s fine. The little plastic pieces on the side can be a problem but I went to the Ford dealer and they gave me new ones for free. It’s been great
I have almost lost those pieces several times when rolling up. I know to watch carefully now. I have it glued in place with a wall anchor on the little piece that holds it in place.
Have had the Bak Flip on my truck for 10 months. Have had heavy rains and puddles of water three times near tailgate too. A friend of mine experienced hail damage on his Bak Flip. It also broke his windshield. 🤷♂️
About two months ago, I install the X4S on my 2024 Chevy Silverado with a 5'8" bed. Coming from the extang solid fold, I like the cleaner looks of the X4S and the extra bed space when the cover is rolled up. Installation wasn't terribly difficult but alignment can be a pain. I think the cover needs to be about an inch longer to provide enough coverage at the tail gate and bulkhead. I also think the bulkhead seal could be better by using rubber than foam. Lining things up as the directions call (lining up the cover with the rail) has the cover being short on the tail gate end. Line the tail gate end where the rubber seal is flush with the gate, the bulkhead end barely makes it. In the end, you have to compromise to provide enough coverage at both ends to provide some resemblance of weatherproofing. And even then, the cover will let some water in. A good soaking rain will let about two dixie cups of water inside the bed from the tailgate and corners at the bulkhead. As far as weatherproofing goes, the extang did a better job but it is also a on top of the bed cover. Weak points are the corner caps at the tail gate and rubber seals at the bulkhead. Extending the length would help at the bulkhead but something needs to be done with the plastic corner caps. They present a small gap to let water in and are only held in place by a plastic clip. You gotta be careful or they will snap off. On the road, the cover holds up nicely with just a little noticeable ripple with the wind. Can't complain because the thin blades of aluminum that makes up the hard cover. I don't think the cover will go anywhere with the locking mechanism that really secures the cover. While there is room for improvement, I don't have any regrets on the purchase and really like the cover. I like the low profile, clean look. I like having the ability to secure the cover with the tailgate open or closed. I like the amount of bed space available with the cover is rolled up. And I like the security the cover provides. I do think the cover is about $200 over priced, but the pros out weigh the cons enough to take the sting out of the cost of this cover. Hopefully BAK will continue to improve this cover.
@@AdventureRocks One more observation. The knobs that you use to screw the cover into place are difficult to tighten. The nylon lock in the nut is really stiff and the plastic knob a little on the small side. I ended up having to use a pair of gloves with the textured palms to get enough grip to tighten the knobs all the way down. The tight spacing between bolts doesn't help matters much. I will give BAK customer service high marks in that they not only sent me shims to use as I tried to straighten the fit but they also sent me plain old nuts to replace the knobs with. Adjusting the cover is so much easier using a wrench than wrestling with the plastic knobs. Using nuts does eliminate the "tool free" removal but I keep a socket set in my truck tool box, making it a non-issue on my end.
I hear you, it is pricey. The Truxedo seems to be a good value and it held up nicely to the elements while keeping things dry. I had it on 2 previous trucks and no issues.
Hey my friend/neighbor has the Truxedo roll up and it’s 4 years old looks great and going strong. He is always working out of his truck so it’s got lot of use.
My Truxedo was the LoPro and had the lifetime warranty. After 8 years it got a hole in it and they replaced it with not many question asked. If I hadn’t got lucky and found a deal on my next 4xs (which I love!) it would be a truxedo.
Yes I would love to get this cover but that’s a bit out of my price range. Maybe in a few years or if there’s some sort of sale like you said. It is a real beauty. I have a cheapo roll up for now that the dealer threw in on my Sierra 1500
You have an amazing looking property, seems very peaceful. What state are you in? Good review of the Revolver, I'm leaning that direction after years with a backflip.
Nice. I"m trying to decide between this BAK Revolver bedcover (the x4ts actually, as long as it doesn't leak more than this one) or the smooth black Diamondback HD bedcover. I love everything about the Diamondback except that it doesn't roll up to quickly and easily open the entire bed like this one does.
I hear you. I really think biggest selling point on the X4s is the appearance...it just looks so sleek and OEM. There are probably more durable options out there at same price, but they may not have same aesthetics. Personal preference in the end. Mine is still holding up fine so far, going on 11 months.
I wanna love this cover and buy it but after all the reviews from utube i cannot pay the asking price for this and wait for the issues and administration that goes with them. I love the concept though. There is no perfect cover but this is pricey!
I had one fall apart and another get shredded by crosswinds. I will never buy one again. The lack of locking on the sides allowed the wind to get under the weather seal and just rip it off. I am moving to a more secure cover for my '22 GMC 3500. The lack of side locks is a game changer for me. It was good for covering, but security is bad and lack of strength is bad.
I like my x4s on my 4 year old AT4. When researching for mine it looked like the separation was occurring on the x4 not the s. Mine is garaged. When mine was new I coated it with 303. Mine was under $1000 installed while I waited.
thanks for the videos. could you do me a favor? when you have it rolled up behind the glass, can you measure the diameter of the roll? and also how far from the glass to the rear of the roll? I have a fifth wheel camper and I'm not sure if it will get into the way while I'm turning. thanks
Thank you for watching. Sure, no problem. When rolled up, mine measures 11.5" protruding from center cab glass. And, the roll itself, as far as height off bed rails is 8.5" diameter. Hope this helps!
I drive on dirt roads a lot . You either get Bad dust or Bad mud , only choices available. Looks difficult to impossible to clean. I have a very inexpensive roll up vinyl tonneau cover and I can’t get it truly clean.
Thanks for the work you put in on your videos. Very helpful to me as I'm getting ready to order a 2025 Sierra 2500. I'm sold on the Revolver X4s cover. Right now REALTRUCK is selling the X4s for $1,279.99. What do you use to clean or condition the X4s? Also, is that the BedRug Classic Bed Mat in your bed? Those look nice as well. Thanks
Thank you for the comment. That's a great price considering all things. I tried the ceramic coat on the cover and it seemed to take pretty good...same ceramic coating for the paint. I use the same soap on it too...pH neutral and it seems to clean-up pretty good. Mine stays garaged out of sun a good portion of the time, so that helps to be fair, but it still looks really good.

Sorry to hear. I had to adjust mine on the tailgate seal a little after install to get the compression on seal just right. Where are you getting water?
@@MrCN173 Copy. I found it tricky getting the position just right on that tailgate gasket to "compress" the right amount to seal against tailgate. Try loosening your knobs that hold the bulkhead side in place...then square it up tighter against the tailgate...might only need 1/8" or 1/4" of movement toward tailgate to fix. It helps if you have a second helper to watch the seal against tailgate while you tighten the knobs. Once it is adjusted right it seams to keep water out pretty good. I just get some at the far outside where it meets the sides at tailgate joint/gap.
Great point. It's easy to forget about the warranty after you purchase. From everything I've heard they stand behind the product. Thank you for comment.
Once I got mine adjusted right on the real seal against tailgate, mine stays nice and dry.
