  • "Netanyahu is history, he's done," Ehud Olmert told DW. He called the current Israeli leaders "violent, messianic thugs" and said that long term, Palestinians must be able to "exercise their right to self-determination." The center-right politician and former prime minister added that there was no alternative to the two-state solution with the Palestinians. On the issue of the scores of Israelis taken hostage by Hamas, Olmert said there was "no basis for negotiation" with Hamas - since, in his view, the Islamist militant group was not interested in negotiations. Olmert also told host Tim Sebastian that he thought there was little likelihood of direct military action against Iran, even though Tehran had "coordinated" the attacks and that a derailment of a US-sponsored diplomatic and security accord between Israel and Saudi Arabia would serve Iran's interests.

    He's not wrong. Bibi doesn't want to deal with moderates and reasonable people, because he's not reasonable. He wants all the land and negotiations are pointless if your not going to give the other side anything. If you don't act reasonably, expect to deal with unreasonable people. I just pray the decent people on both sides can negotiate when the dust settles here

    Indeed, regardless of whether he deliberately turned a blind eye to encourage it, Netanyahu has benefitted from this attack since it diverts attention away from his attack on the independence of the judiciary and his unpopularity.

    Netanyahu should not have a hardline approach towards Palestinians in the first place. That would drastically reduce terrorism, not eliminate altogether

    Justice for the Palestinians. The Arab world needs to unite and force Israel to return all looted Palestinian territory. But such an explosive attack would easily be labeled terrorist.
    They need to form a political party representing the nation to support the world's justice-loving people to fight for national unity.

    The 1 state solution is the only way forward. A state where Palestinians and Israelis live side by side with all the same rights, same opportunities, same freedoms.
    All people want the same core things. They want safety for themselves and their families. They want to be free from hunger and they want to feel like they are part of something larger than themselves. Give the people that and stop intentionally sowing division and hate for the sake of political power. Then you will stop the evil and you will have the country everyone dreams of.

    You're wrong as Iran is mainly Shiite and Hamas are Sunni and the two don't agree on many things regarding religion. Netanyahu was given ample warning by the Egyptians of the attacks that would happen but he ignored it. Was it deliberate so that he could act to obliterate Hamas ie Gaza? Were those killed just collateral damage? See the video of the woman accusing the IDF of shooting those living in on kibbutz. Sorry if I'm wrong but it's food for thought. And if you replace Nyet please replace him with someone who's compassionate and with a soul and heart for all lives.

    Speaking of messianic Jews in the territories, what about your own settler daughter Orli? It's been a while since I rode with you in your Peugeot when you were the mayor of Jerusalem as you delivered me to Bet El. Took a while but the time for real soul searching has arrived. Begin and Sharon engineered the settler movement for political reasons. I guess hindsight is 20:20. That said, you're looking well, Ehud!

    I think that pointing fingers and blaming is not going to help Israel but to hurt it. Best to just learn from this intelligence failure and move forward and build better and build back. Causing divisions and resignations now is only going to work in the favor of Israel’s enemies

    Ehud Olmert proves that he is like the Bourbons of France, he has learned nothing and forgot nothing. The notion that Israel can live in peace next to these Palestinians is laughable. You don't negotiate with people who cut off the heads of children.

      @harrynikken 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

      He was talking of Palestinians of good will of course. Not HamaSS. But at present there are not enough people of good will on both sides to pull this off.
