This era of high school running equals the Ryun, Lindgren years. Great job to all. Forget the cinder track comparsion, equipment, etc. You have the same desire as they did.
@Don Jindra These kids are tremendous athletes, super focused and the internet allowing kids to instantly benchmark their performances against other kids across the nation and world has played a big part in raising the competitive bar (20 years ago, you vaguely knew how good runners were in your state by reading newspapers before competing in a state meet) . But all that said, it is absolutely ridiculous to dismiss the effect of track surfaces and super spikes. People get sick of talking about it, but it doesn't make it any less relevant. The consensus is the spikes alone provide .75 seconds to 1 second per lap on the mile. That is massive. Still, these kids are incredible and it's admirable how focused they are.
@@Thomas-fk3cw I know that these are excellent times no matter the surface and equipment. But I do think it's hard to compare times today to those of 45-50 years ago when I was a distance runner. I ran plenty of races on a cinder track. In fact, in college we still had a cider track. Personally I liked cinder for practice but I know the times were better on better surfaces even back then.
@James Caricola On top of the shoes, track surfaces, social media/internet national/global benchmarking, they are also on college comparable workout programs from eighth grade on. In 1986-1991, I went to same high school with 2 time Olympian Alan Culpepper (olympics: 10k and then marathon in following olympics). I was a very average runner with spotty dedication. He was super dedicated, rarely ever missed workouts designed by a private coach. He was locked in from 8th grade on. Alan ran a 4:08 mile in senior year. As dedicated as he was, the training regimens are next level these days compared to 30 years ago. His training would pale in comparison to top high school athletes today. I don't think high school kids are actually better per se (I mean there hasn't been some biological evolution in 30 years), they are just training at a mich higher level frpm middle scholl on and running these crazy times at a much younger age. And then you layer in the superspikes and other aforementioned factors. Tidal wave of high school kids running super fast times. As far as juicing, I just don't know. I'm sure some are, with everything so competitive and scholarships, money on line. But don't know how widespread or rare that is at HS level.
The reason for the article is because a high schooler broke 4 minutes. A comment was made that someone else broke 4 minutes. Asking if that other runner was a high schooler is a legitimate question. I was wondering the same thing. Who’s being the creep??
Yellow spikes everywhere. No top high school track athlete (let alone college or pro) is going to handicap themselves 3 to 4 seconds per mile by not wearing superspikes.

There is a big difference in cinder tracks. These are great times but the difference cannot be dismissed.

@@donjindra Definitely. Agree. Can't compare.

I don’t understand how it’s possible for people this young to run 60 seconds per lap, yet alone running under that range too, it’s just insane
Great coverage, thanks for showing the races we want to see!
Man their 800 split was my PR and yet they weren’t kicking and still had two laps to go
That’s still a really good 800
Outstanding!
Congrats Rocky! What a benchmark to beat.. way to go!
Congrats!
Hansen joins an elite group of high school milers, congrats to him!
The mile is becoming a dead sprint at this point
Its getting bigger wdym
@@Nathan_iceblossom12345 no he doesn’t mean it’s a dead race, he’s saying it’s become a sprint
@@xelp435 its not a sprint, maybe for some people but its just not

WOW!
I went to the Pasco invite in Washington, and one of the kids ran a 4:05 mile along with his teammate at 4:07
This guy went to a middle school in my county.
This man signed my shoe

Great job Rocky, but I just saw Happy Gilmore accomplish that feat no more than a hour ago!!
Bro started in the back as well

JACK ELIASON THE HOMETOWN HERO
The LAST guy finishing his 3rd lap looks slow....wow, so far behind!!! NO NO NO NO. This dude is actually REALLY FAST. lol. Good, and then next level.
He ran faster than roger banister did in his first time to break 4 minutes for the mile..so he has that story he can tell his children .
what'd the guy say in the background at 3:33💀
Is that gary on the camera???
yes
🤯🥳
Let's take a wild guess at what shoe everyone of them was wearing.
Exactly
