I’ve raced Leo several times, and watched him win countless times, including his 14:14 5K this fall, and I’ve never seen him lose. I can not wait to race him next year in college, and see where he goes from here!
As a former teammate of Leo, Ive never seen anyone like him. When I was a senior in highschool he was almost beating me as a freshman. Very proud of my boy!
Fewer people have gone to EVO championship for Smash Melee than climbing Everest. Thus climbing Everest is easier to fo than registering for a tournament.
3 of those guys running are on my team, absolutely unbelievable what these young athletes pulled off even if only Leo broke 4 it was still well worth the effort

Not going to lie here those videos make me pretty emotional because as a track athlete and cross country runner I understand the countless hours and months and years you have to spend constly grinding to get to this level and the sacrifices you have to make. Really inspiring! Great performance.
@Dawson Thelin Question: What's the advantage of having someone (here, Boyden) leading for 3 laps? Is it psychological to have a pace setter in front? Or, is their actually an aerodynamic drafting advantage? I appreciate drafting on a road bike going 30 MPH. But does it also apply at ~15 MPH for runners? Or, do both psychological and aerodynamic reasons apply?
That is amazing. The closest I ever came to that was a 5:07 in seventh grade in 1966. Our football team was undefeated that year, too. I played defense. It was a good year. Wish I had kept running. Thanks for posting the video. I need to get my running shoes back on again. I hope Leo and Thomas keep up their running.
@@timmythehydra7481 Thanks, but there were always one or two faster, so I chose chemistry. I did start running again at age 30 and did well at local meets (26:32 200 meter in my late thirties). I love the 200 meter race. However, the Masters meets have dried up in recent years.
Yeah those were HORRIBLE pace setters. Any decent high school runner could've run a 1:59 and kept them on pace. I think that's why the second guy didn't break 4.
So impressive! Having been a miler myself back in 63-64 @ South Eugene H. S. In Eugene, Or and 1965-66 @ Roosevelt H. S. In Honolulu I can thoroughly appreciate what a wonderful accomplishment this was. Congratulations Leo!!
There's records of highschoolers running sub 4 minute miles, but you won't find the records on the internet. I saw one kid run sub 4 in Alaska in some backwater low population town.

That's incredible! I ran 4:04.5 as a Jr in college back in the 70's. I never got any faster than that. Breaking that 4:00 barrier is still the benchmark for today's distance running athlete. It certainly puts you in very select company; especially if your still in High School. Well Done Leo!

Watching Leo Daschbacb run that last lap makes me cry! His stride and turnover are incredible and relentless. What does it feel like to be able to do that? So much strength, training, and determination. And, of course, none of them collapse at the end. They just stop running.

I keep thinking about this as a movie, where I’m the leader until Leo passes me and I yell “GO LEO” “YOU CAN DO IT”! And as I’m following him I forget about my own running and am fixated on the clock just past the finish line. When the time is shown I have so much joy for Leo and relish in the fact that I had the best seat in the house!!

I keep thinking about this as a movie, where I’m the leader until Leo passes me and I yell “GO LEO” “YOU CAN DO IT”! And as I’m following him I forget about my own running and am fixated on the clock just past the finish line. When the time is shown I have so much joy for Leo and relish in the fact that I had the best seat in the house!!
