I did my engineering in Vignana Nagar, Bengaluru, and the place where Iyer Idly is located is just a few minutes of walking distance away from the apartment where I used to live. I started living there in the year 2008. Even then the quality of their idli was top notch. I have seen his father and his mother run the shop together and occasionally saw him assist as well. I and few friends of mine from my college used to eat there regularly. Myself being someone from North east India, I wasn't an Idli fan but I became a fan of Iyer Idly. Probably no one makes Idlis as soft as they make. And with that their unique tasting and amazing coconut white and green chutney.😋 I believe one of the mantras of their success is to focus on one thing and do it really really well. And another mantra is consistent quality and hard work.
I loved the fact that it was not only about a person who left his job to start a business/follow his passion but also his perspective on life, basic life values and his priorities was so on-point. 'Food is a basic human right' ...how many profit oriented business would think about that? Loved his perspective!
All these south indian peopls have such a great mentality about money, they are not greedy, they are not dying to earn profits or working too hard to reach a goal...they are just calm & composed about their business, money & life...organic growth. Not worrying too much about money & business, they know one day if everything is lost, they will again build it in same way...Cool entrepreneur.

Equation for GMV or the variable naming is wrong (menu price - cost of goods sold) will be negative. Menu price of 1 idly say 50rs. but cost of all goods sold will be very high.
Appreciate his efforts but the food isn't that great. Not to be a spoilsport but the moniker of "Idli King" is sort of false. I'd still rate SLV Banashankari or Veena Stores Malleshawaram serve better idlis. But having said that, Iyer Idli while not the best tasting, is not adulterated so feels clean after you eat.
@Tharun haven't been to malleshwaram in a long time. But from what I remember, Veena Stores, CTR are great places. I find most generic restaurants to be of same quality anywhere in the city. Close by in Sheshadripiram I found this really small dosa joint. Excellent stuff but I don't remember exactly where it is. Famous for ghee dosa.

Though food is very essential for everyone, But when you are doing business with it, i think one shouldn't mix up business with Charity! considering an Indian mentality, Ferrari owner won't eat where Auto driver eats and Auto driver can't eat where Ferrari owner eats. ( Just speaking keeping the price and status point of view) So, one may need to Target a specific customer base and do business in order to have a good profit margin! Of course, you can help people in many ways! But if you've got customers from all backgrounds and there is no harm for the profit margin, then it's really great! All the very best!
