This is my favorite episode. “I always hear ‘punch me in the face’ when you’re speaking but it’s usually subtext” is such a brilliant line, and “I had bad days” is a great line too.
The books make it clear Sherlock is not in love with Irene Adler, he just has massive respect for her and recognises that her abilities match his own. That's why he only calls her THE woman. The very first short story opens with line: "To Sherlock Holmes she is always The woman"
I love this episode. The back and forth with Irene and Sherlock is fantastic. Also love how it shows how much Sherlock actually cares, whether it was realizing that what he did/said to Molly was rude, or how much it bothered him that they went after Mrs. Hudson.
a thing to know about canon Watson: over the years of his friendship with Sherlock, he goes through 3 or 4 wives. so seeing Watson with a new girlfriend in every episode is kind of fitting for the character in a modern setting. we never really knew what happened with his wives in the books either. they would just be there in one book and gone the next. (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is not known for his great consistency, honestly :D)
… where did you get this information? In sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books (the original Sherlock Holmes) John is only married to Marry, and in the books it states that he loves her
My favorite episode. First, it features my favorite character, Mollie. She is just about the only thing that humanizes Sherlock. Second, the ending reveals what Sherlock genuinely is: a superhero!
If I recall correctly, the line 'because I took your pulse' was improvised by Benedict Cumberbatch. Credit where it's due, the line nails the tension of the scene.
Ooooh Ellie you have soooo much more to come with Sherlock. It’s watching you be so fixed to the screen that proves how much your enjoying the series 👍
If you didn't pick up on what Mycroft and Dr. Watson were referring to on the phone call, Sherlock Holmes is a Heroin addict. If he's stressed or bored, he will use Heroin.
Great reaction, especially on Sherlock and Irene’s first meeting, your face 😳 You realised what the safe code was before the last 2 numbers were entered, didn’t you 😉 The scene transitions was amazing and great lines too! 👍 “An American attacked Mrs.Hudson, I’m restoring balance to the universe” 😂😂😂 He really cares about Mrs. Hudson.
Irene Adler is very much part of the original Sherlock lore ^^ Sherlock is never said to be in love with her, but he massively respects her She's in Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies as well, played by Rachel McAdams
Love Sherlock - and love the fact that it is, however loosely, based on the original Sherlock Holmes casebook stores. Having read all of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories, it is nice to see the lore honoured - Irene Adler, the Women - has always been part of the Sherlock story. Along with Moriarty and the pun they use for "Reichenbach Falls". This series really has to be the best interpretation of work ever made. Loving it!
"Sentiment is a chemical defect found in the losing side"... The greatest line in the show! He loves her and only refers to her as "the women"... He refused to give her identity because this is his self defense mechanism against feelings... I adore her... She is amazing and he is perfection ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just finished my sherlock rewatch I'm so glad I can watch it again through your vids it really is one of my favourite shows of all time it gets me invested like nothing else omg
It's kind of a shame in a way that Benedict & Martin's careers got so big - I'm always holding out hope that there might one day be more Sherlock than we got! This is one of my favorite episodes & although it's almost a throwaway line Sherlock uttering ''Mrs Hudson leave Baker Street? - England would fall!'' as he puts his arm around her shows that he really does care! I remember the whole first meeting with a nude Irene Adler got a LOT of complaints when first aired on BBC 1 - but I think (if memory serves!) the episode also received a lot of critical praise as one of the series best episodes! Irene Adler was played by Lara Pulver - normally she would be quite distracting enough, but the Ellierose look today was giving her something of a run for her money! 😍😆
This episode was based upon "A Scandal in Bohemia" -- the book which (like this episode) introduced us to the character of Irene Adler. A very nice reaction ... well done.
Great reaction! I love Sherlock, and have to say this was my favourite episode of the entire series. There are many ‘very good’ episodes across the seasons, but this is one of the few truly great ones.
As someone who found you through your reactions to my favourite bands (Motionless in White, Black Veil Brides, Bad Omens, Ice Nine Kills, Falling In reverse, Lorna Shore etc etc…) I can’t express how THRILLED I am to see you reacting to my favourite show! And I promise you’ll come to love Moriarty as much as we do lol
24:00 - BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS HER. In one of the final scene's of Tom Cruise's 'Edge of Tomorrow', you can see 'the woman' (as an extra) among a crowd of people within a room, paying close attention to an important news broadcast.
Bout time!! No really, thank you, and you’ll thank yourself later. Such a great show. Thanks for what you do. May your views and likes always be equal.
Slurring his first line with her still makes me chuckle. Just as he's established as a sociopathic Rain Man, he's a 13yr old for the slightest moment..
I've noticed that everyone who watches this episode seems to share a similar mindset to mycroft and John that sherlock is in love with 'the woman' but when I watch this episode I don't see that, what I see is that she was the only one who could get sherlock out of his slump (is that the right word) he took this case on begrudgingly, found that he couldn't solve it in seconds and delved into it, he's not in love with her he loves that she was able to help him and in return he saves her life and she's not in love with him as she stated she is gay/lesbian so not into men, what she sees is a mission, someone who was able to ignore her 'influence' and likes this challenge as sherlock likes her challenge. Love isnt what's going on it's children who have found a new game that they are learning how to play and win.
If Mycroft thinks she is dead - then she is official dead (for other criminals too) = the perfect protection-program (and it’s Sherlock‘s present to her) !
By the way: Sherlock would know if Mycroft lies about Irene‘s dead. Why should Mycroft talk to him about a living Irene in a protection-program? When Sherlock wants to see her, Mycroft can’t help - and that means she is dead.
Ellierose Sherlock Reaction Summary: [Meets a new character] "Oh My God I hate him/her/them, so annoying!" [Episode Ends] "Oh my god I love him/her/them. I hope they return later."
Remember when you first watched and said you didnt like Sherlock but by the end you were hooked. You had the same journey with Irene, as we all did. Just as im sure the writers envisioned.
Yess, my favorite episode! I adore the dynamic between Irene and Sherlock and still ship them to this very day. Lol. Though now you're probably going to get inundated with people telling you to react to Fleabag and see if you still feel the same about Moriarty 😂
„Are you expecting me to beg?“ - „Yes.“ .. “Sorry about dinner.“ okay but Sherlock was so cold in that scene 😂 even Mycroft was like : 👀 your reactions are so far very entertaining 😌 hehe I do hope you got to appreciate Moriarty as the villain a bit more by the end of the season tho
These hot takes! lol Maybe it's cultural differences? My only problem with Irene Adler and Jim Moriarty is trying to figure out which of them I love more. They are both so well-written, well cast, well acted. They are two of my favorite villains in any TV show. See you next episode :)
Omgggg youreeeee backkkkkkkkkk girlllll🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗also i love when you do these kind of hair styles ,ive literally screenshotted them so i can remember to wear mine like that😂
Guy Ritchie did a couple of Sherlock Holmes film adaptations with Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock and Jude Law as Watson. The character of Irene Adler ("The woman"), also appears in those films, played by Rachel McAdams. Like this tv show, those films are not super faithful to the original material, but they are very fun adaptations, with a lot of action. In case you ever want to watch more Sherlock Holmes stuff after you finish the show.
Easy now...the person you THINK is Moriarty might not be. Remember that Moriarty gives orders from the shadows. So anyone claiming to be Moriarty is likely to be a puppet.
There are 3 things that are constant in any Sherlock Holmes adaptation. 1 Sherlock and Watson are always a team 2 Sherlocks most formidable foe is Jim Moriarty 3 Irene Adler is Sherlocks greatest love.
Kinda funny hearing you not like Irene. This might be my favourite episode largely because of her. I'm gay but if i were to ever fall for a woman it'd probably be someone like her. Lol
There are so many takes on Sherlock Holmes. The Robert Downey movies are good, Moriarty is a big burly college professor, who will physically engage with you. The BBC must have 7 or 8 versions in their archives. But this Sherlock in modern times is probably the best. Firefly a one season show with a movie finale is a good option. A space western.
hi 👋 new sub, late to the party. Fun reaction! This is my favorite episode of the show (with some close runners up). Irene Adler is an iconic femme fatale and Lara Pulver was mesmerizing. Just wanna say though: Irene is gay and Sherlock is basically only attracted to intellectual matters. It's not a straightforward heterosexual romance (far as I'm aware), but they are very special to each other... another reason its a favorite for me! Anyways, looking forward to getting stuck into more of your Sherlock reactions. 😊
Video: I could be the Sherlock Holmes for females! Too late. Enola Holmes on Netflix beat you to it. Enola is the baby sister of Sherlock Holmes (played by Henry Cavill). There are 2 episodes and they are SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!! A must see.
Once you've finished with Sherlock, you should check out Elementary - it's basically the US version of the same show, featuring a Sherlock Holmes who has moved to the US. I love both

yeah, mine too. definitely. The Woman was always my favourite adversary in Sherlock Holmes and they totally did her justice here.
The way Sherlock and Watson stare down Mycroft after he yells at Mrs. Hudson. Perfection.
My absolute favourite too; & Lara Pulver played the iconic femme fatale Irene Adler perfectly.
The books make it clear Sherlock is not in love with Irene Adler, he just has massive respect for her and recognises that her abilities match his own. That's why he only calls her THE woman.

the "Sher-locked" scene HAD me in chokehold and still has me tbh
“He’s not actually going to throw him out the window-“
THUD
Perfect timing all around! 😂
"She's a little bit annoying, but so is he..."
So true Ellirose!
"Mrs. Hudson, leave Baker Street? England would fall."
That's the sweetest comment Sherlock ever made
I would consult a therapist to discuss why Sherlock throwing a man out of a window caused you to get excited 😂
I’m not sure a therapist could even help me 😭😂
@@EllieroseReacts I would recommend a female therapist as well 🫣
@@EllieroseReacts oh, girl, we were all there ;) there are even songs written about Sherlock's 'Purple shirt' ;)
And just how many times _did_ he fall out of that window, Sherlock?
Oh it was all a bit of a blur, Detective Inspector.
I lost count.
🤣@@EllieroseReacts
We were all Sher locked into the show after that one
a thing to know about canon Watson: over the years of his friendship with Sherlock, he goes through 3 or 4 wives. so seeing Watson with a new girlfriend in every episode is kind of fitting for the character in a modern setting. we never really knew what happened with his wives in the books either. they would just be there in one book and gone the next. (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is not known for his great consistency, honestly :D)
Also it’s from “Jon’s column” I imagine he would be less than forthcoming about his personal life, at least the embarrassing bits
let's be fair the man was a bored dentist.
I think the music from this episode is the best in the whole run.
It's definitely part of why this is my favourite episode.
Agreed. The Sherlocked theme and the editing at the end is marvelous.
Forgot how brilliant this show is. Getting all those excited feelings back like seeing it for the first time.
A great movie with Benedict Cumberbatch is:
"The Imitation Game"
I agree. The overall concept (code breaking using mathematics) doesn't sounds so hot but the movie is insanely well done.
Literally my favorite movie
"The woman" is what he always referred to her in the stories as well.
If I recall correctly, the line 'because I took your pulse' was improvised by Benedict Cumberbatch. Credit where it's due, the line nails the tension of the scene.
No, what was improvised was Benedict Cumberbatch whispering the line into her ear rather than just saying out loud.
@@Allexstrasza Given that it's how he figures out the password, there's no way he possibly could have improvised it.
When it first came out the "Sigh" ringtone was everywhere. "The Woman" is Sherlock's true love.
Ooooh Ellie you have soooo much more to come with Sherlock. It’s watching you be so fixed to the screen that proves how much your enjoying the series 👍
To me, this will always be the best episode. Their chemistry is amazing!

Ohhh that makes so much sense!! Thank you!😂
You can tell this is "old" now because she always called it a "Camera Phone". Implying most phones don't have cameras haha.
And those early cameras were such potato quality I doubt she'd be able to blackmail anyone with one of its photos 😁
Great reaction, especially on Sherlock and Irene’s first meeting, your face 😳 You realised what the safe code was before the last 2 numbers were entered, didn’t you 😉 The scene transitions was amazing and great lines too! 👍
“An American attacked Mrs.Hudson, I’m restoring balance to the universe” 😂😂😂 He really cares about Mrs. Hudson.
My favourite ep of the series. Lara Pulver... well....
The great thing about Irene Adler is there are no easy answers with her.
Irene Adler is very much part of the original Sherlock lore ^^ Sherlock is never said to be in love with her, but he massively respects her
She's in Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies as well, played by Rachel McAdams
Andrew Scott who plays Moriarty is absolutely brilliant, he is my favourite actor of all time. It hurt my heart what you said about him 😢
I know! It’s blasphemy to say such things about the Hot Priest!
@@mariahdaley4773it astounds me that Moriarty and Hot Priest are played by the same man. Amazing actor
Andrew Scott's Moriarty is more creepy than scary it's his unpredictability that adds the scare factor and the insane amount of pre-planning he does.
What does he play a hot priest in😅
