In the original novel, Moriarty is supposed to be an ugly old man so having him as a quirky young man is very a plot twist. This episode is also a ref to the final fight between Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty. Both were supposed to die, falling from a waterfall because the author wanted to stop writing this story. However, fans from all over the world came to protest at his door house until he wrote again about Holmes’ adventures 😂
@@annipsy2185 if I was Conan Doyle I would be so fed up … XD the guy was literally pressured to continue to write about characters he didn’t want anymore
When Moriarty blew his brains out outta nowhere just to prove a point, i still remember my heart stopped for a moment when i watched that scene for the first time! Andrew Scott did something remarkable in his portraying a character like Moriarty imo, huge fan of him since... anyway really loving these reactions from you to one of my most favourite serieses of all time, keep em coming! 👀
"I don't like him, I'm sorry" I mean, that's kinda the point :P Moriarty isn't a man you should like, he's basically Sherlock Holmes if Sherlock used his intellect for bad The reason WE like him is his performance, not because of what kind of person he is. The performance is absolutely stellar
It was announced, before airing this episode, it would probably be the last one as the actors has become to big and would be difficult to schedule the filming in, so we were all wachting, knowing they could really 'kill off' Sherlock, as AC Doyle did try, when writing Sherlock hundred years before, so when we saw Sherlock at the end, Mark Gatiss tweeted: Gotcha!!!! But mostly, we were just relieved it was not the ending of Sherlock, it was just a long wait, but we were used to that anyway, and I found it all worth it. Glad you're enjoying this too.
“why am I crying? He can't be dead it's only season 2" literally all of us who didn't watch it live😂🥲 this show is just so well written and acted that you get maximal immersion into the story and characters
One of the things about this version of Sherlock that old fogies like me love is...while they change the details from the original stories of 100 years ago, they include aspects of the originals as an homage. So we "Sherlockians" get the inside jokes. I won't go into them all...the show is designed to be great for the young audiences of today (rightly so) even without knowing the originals. The one thing about this episode is it does exactly what Arthur Conan Doyle did all those years ago...he killed off Sherlock. (He wanted to end the stories). Public demand was so nuts that he had to bring him back...and he deliberately avoided giving a plausible explanation....which is something to keep in mind for the next episode. Some people didn't "get the joke", but I love it. LOL
The Study in Pink springs to mind. In the original the police believe that the incomplete message was intended to spell 'Rachel' when it was actually the german for revenge. In this show they swapped it around. I thought that was neat :)
There is a Sherlock short mini episode that is a prequel to season 3 called "Many Happy Returns" and a special after season 3 called "The Abominable Bride" before season 4.
Out of all people making sherlock reaction videos I feel like you are the most accurate one✋😭 Don't worry when Sherlock jumped I cried my eyes out too (knowing there are still two seasons left🤓🤓)
I love and hate this episode. The whole frame job/convincing everyone he's a fraud drives me INSANE, and I've rewatched it less than the others. ...Can you tell I was blamed for a lot of shit I didn't do as a child? 😂
Lovin the reactions to Sherlock, just wanted to add, when this came out in real time S2 Ep 3 aired 15/1/12 and we had to wait till 1/1/14 for S3 Ep1, which was so infuriating!! Can’t wait for you to watch the rest. You should defo give Fleabag a go!
One of the things that frustrates me about people's reactions to certain scenes and twists in shows like this (and this is no one's fault, as it is just a byproduct of having watched a show/movie much later than it's airing date), is that they watch these shows KNOWING there will be another season following. KNOWING that somehow, the main character survives whatever predicament, no matter how completely inescapable the situation or final it is, because they know they have another two seasons worth of story which include the person who has 'died'. Again, I don't fault the people who watch these shows and who disconnect and rationalise like this. Rather, I just feel bad for them, as they've been deprived of the true essence, emotion and feeling of the show's twist or climax. Having watched the show as it was released, the horror and denial that flooded my body, not knowing if this was how they were really going to just end the show was a unique, FRUSTRATING, but also wondrous feeling. The audacity, the daring, the loss, the surprise, the feeling of impotence to alter the outcome of the ending. All of it. You can't experience something like that whilst actually KNOWING that it isn't the end and that somehow they all make it through.
Arthur Conan Doyle really did mean to kill Sherlock in the book this was based on but eventually he wrote more stories and explained Sherlock faked his own death
the end spoiler was rly unneccacary xD in teh books sherlock was killed of by doyle but the backslash of the fans was so huge, it was like the worlds first shitstorm so he had to bring him back but the intend was that he was killed xD
Just wait until the next season. Not only the reveal of how it was done, but the introduction of Mary. If you think this series is good now, you have a treat in store.
As others have mentioned: if you want to see Andrew Scott in something else watch Fleabag season 2. Even if you don't want to see Andrew Scott in something else, you should watch Fleabag season 2.
andrew scott's moriarty is definitely an acquired taste, i also found him too weird initially but he was quickly grown on me you can certainly say a lot of things about his portrayal but he ain't boring, really appreciate the choices he's made playing this character
In the Sir Arthor Conan Doyle work, Sherlock dies during the story of the same name so I thought he was dead. The rest of the stories are then done as flashbacks so I thought they would do something similar for the show
"it's season two, he's not gonna die" -- yeah, imagine being the rest of us, when it came out and Sherlock hadn't been renewed for a third season yet. (Steven Moffat confirmed on Twitter right after it ended, that there would be a third season).
The story in which Conan Doyle killed off Sherlock and Moriarty is "The Final Problem." In that story Holmes tracks Moriarty to Switzerland and confronts him on a ledge at the top of the Reichenbach Falls. They fight and both topple off the ledge and are lost in the waters below. Thus Conan Doyle was able to get rid of both Holmes and Moriarty, and wouldn't have to write any more Sherlock Holmes stories. Or so he thought. The reading public had other ideas.

okay but to see some more andrew scott in likeable roles ( not that i don't love moriarty ) you HAVE to see the icon the legend 'fleabag' by phoebe waller bridge!! also, if you're wanting to keep with a detective / drama, life on mars is super cool and a short-ish double series compared to some of the long runs like lucifer or sherlock

You have to understand. We waited something like 4 years between season 2 and season 3. He died, but not really, but Watson was completely CRUSHED. It was devastating. And then we waited I think 4 YEARS before the next season. Keep that in mind when you watch next episode. I think it's important to really understand how we felt when we watched it, and the feelings the director / writer wanted to produce
