In 1965, after boot camp at Paris Island and infantry training at Camp Geiger, I was sent to Basic Electronics School which at the time was in San Diego, followed by Ground Radio Repair. My MOS was 2841. The total classes lasted 10 months. That MOS kept me out of Vietnam. BTW, back in my day there was no such thing as a contract. We raised our hand and swore to defend the Constitution...etc, then we went wherever they sent us.
Hi Clayton, as always good video. Just to clear out a confusion, what jobs do Marines who go out on the field or go on combat missions have? Do they have a separate jobs specifically related to fights or Marines with any job will be called upon for missions or combat?
That's a pretty broad question since almost all MOSs have a chance of actually going out into the field. I'm guessing that what you're thinking of is called Combat Arms which consists of infantry, artillery, and armor; these 3 MOSs will spend the most time out in the field since there job revolves specifically around combat. Other MOSs that are attached to combat arms units can also go out in to the field about as much in order to support them, people who are in motor T, and comm especially, in fact one of the comm MOSs is the only non-03 MOS allowed to try out for Recon. However, even non-Combat Arms units might spend a lot of time in the field and potentially see combat because of the nature of their jobs, engineers are a good example of this and even some air wing units; when I was in I was a 7242 Direct Air Support Operator and I'd go out into the field fairly often, not into direct combat but not that from where the front line would either.
Is it true at the end of the day the Marine Corp basically picks the job for you after boot camp depending on the avsab scores and the low and high enlistment in a certain field or mos.
When I was in, during the early 2000s, I was an 0151 Administration Clerk (which is now currently, MOS 0111). During my last year, I was able to fill a Billet of a 7041 Aviation Operations Specialist in my unit, and I really enjoyed that job of scheduling Marine Corps aircraft. I was also able to fly with the squadron as an enlisted aircrewman. I always highly recommend enlistees look into Aviation Operations and/or enlisted aircrew as an MOS, because I really enjoyed both!
That's awesome, thanks for sharin your perspective Lamar! I encourage people to cross train into a job that they enjoy if the first one isn't a good fit!
Bryceson Cabading - Don't FB, too many anxiety driven housewives. I was being a little funny and sarcastic, that's all. The Sherlock comment from you?? No different. Update your photo, you've a camera on your phone, right? You always want to be a kid? BTW, there is no such thing as a guaranteed MOS. The recruiter might say that, you may sign something saying something close to that, but if you can't cut the school - guess what!? 0311!! Read the fine print on your contracts! Hail Smedley!
If you're open to suggestions, you should definitely make a video on money/finances! Would be interesting/ helpful to hear how you manage your money ect. Thanks for taking time to make these btw, I know it can be time consuming but I appreciate learning stuff from your vids!!
Manimal Gaming armour probably, or you could start off as a helicopter mechanic and work your way up to a crew chief spot you also got EOD also human intelligence and the list goes on
03GRUNT_96 Reserve says Infantry Rifleman, he gets Rifleman. Active duty says Infantry Rifleman, he could get: Artillery Rifleman Ammo Technician Tank Operator Humvee Driver
+irontale travelbat When you enlist, you sign a contract. In the contract, you should get the guarantee - in writing - that you'll have the job you signed up for.
My recruiter put me down for electronics and I want infantry. Almost everyone I've talked to has tried to talk me out of infantry (because i scored 94 on the ASVAB) but its what I've wanted to do practically my whole life. My recruiter is willing to put in the paper work to switch my contract but the NCOIC at the recruiting station isn't going to let me. Also they want to ship me oht on July 18. What should I do?
If you have questions about what jobs there are specificly go on to Marines.com use the career tool and there is a list of evrey area and all the jobs on the specific area
Hey clayton I just had a question on if you know how hard it is to be in the silent drill platoon. I'd like to have this job because those in the platoon are infantry marines and that I like to do exhibition drill due to being on my jrotc units armed drill team and color guard I just wanted to ask so I can prepare myself before trying to get into that.
So how exactley do you pick your mos? I know that you down get to pick it like you did in other branches but is it as simple as telling them you'll only sign for a certain one?
I agree, it's all up to you although what's available to you at any given time is dependent on what schools are picking up around the time that you would finish boot camp and MCT. You also have to keep in mind that what MOS you can choose is also dependent on how well you do on the ASVB, the better you score on it the better your choices.
Riceball01 hey i got a 45 on my asvab and my recruiter recommended reserves just so i can get my mos and get boot camp done and over with . is this a bad idea?
It depends on what you want. Going Reserves isn't necessarily a bad thing, esp. if you want to go to college at the same time, the Reserves is perfect for that. It really comes down to this, do you think you want to be a Marine full time, as you job? Or do you want to be Marine but want to go to college and pursue a civilian career at the same time or possibly become a Marine officer? Don't let your recruiter pressure you one way or the other, decide for yourself what you want and stick with it, your recruiter can't tell you know and you'll still become a Marine either way.
Riceball01 I will do anything to become a Marine. I scored 45 on asvab and was my second chance if i fail the 3rd time i wait 6 months and my recruiter said best thing to do is just go reserves but would i be able to become a enlisted officer instead of reserves?
One question.. i have a tattoo on my left arm of prayer hands and my sisters name.. think that will hurt my chances of joining? Its like a inch bigger than my hand
Whos Man is this? tell them you want 0300. but i recommend looking past that. you could be a gunny or something like that and still be under 0300. Just check out other things under infantry
i was 17 when i went to MEPS and didn't get a job and I'm close to going to bootcamp and I still don't know what my MOS is, i told my recruiter my top MOS pick but i still didnt get confirmation about my MOS
You will know on your way out the gate from boot camp. Other than that, look at your contract. CAREFULLY. And even then, there is still no guarantee. Even a minor disciplinary action, 0311. Discrepancy in your paperwork, 0311. Health issues, say you break a bone or get shin splints in basic, 0311.
I'm a Poolee who doesn't ship until June, but I'm really interested in the Public Affairs field. Is there anything you can really tell me about it, because there's not much on it that I can find with a simple Google search.
So I want to be 03xx but I want to insure I get infantry. Will the recruiter pick and MOS for me secretly without me knowing/telling me. I guess basically my question is will he put me as a janitor without me knowing.
+Daniel Buckner You will be able to lock in as a 03xx which means you can't be switched last minute to another job -- even though you're still gonna be a janitor.
Hi,my recruiter keeps telling me they only have radio operater but I want to become a MP for reserves . He says that the station where I want which is in hialeah,FL ,they only have radio operator . What should I do ? I really want to become a Military Police.
cristian o Try another branch of the military that will accommodate your wish, Don't be rushed into a job you don't want or don't enlist until there's an opening for MP.
I wanted to do Army and try to become a ranger. I am obsessed with always being on front lines. But I watched Marine videos and Army videos and now I find myself wanting to become a Marine. What would you suggest I should do if I wanna be on the front lines all the time.
Listen. DO NOT BE 0311! Most of 0311 (Rifleman) is sitting on a base 5,000 miles away in the hot sun, or patrolling for 10 miles at 3:30 AM. If you want front lines, become Force Recon. However, the glory Hollywood makes front lines combat look like is not real. You won't see family, you will always be paranoid, etc.
You will get it back after boot camp. But then you'll go to Marine Combat Training, where they'll take it away again until training is done. After that, you're free forevaaaa
do you know anything about the musician MOSes because I have been thinking long and hard about what I want to do and I have no clue what I really would like to do in the marine corp however I do enjoy playing music but I was more thinking of that as a job I do after the marine corp
Yes, it's called being a "range coach." Basically, it's a secondary job that you can pick up. So if you went into a job in the armory, you could then earn your way as a range coach later on. It would take a little while for sure, but it's a chill job.
2020 changed everything. My son had no idea what MOS school he will be sent, even though he really, really wanted to be in heavy duty MOS. He was sent the least place he wanted to be😞 MOS combat engeniring☹
+SGT Johnny USMC Uh no bro, Cobra is Marine. The Bell AH-1 "Super Cobra" is the primary attack helicopter in the Marine Corps with the AH-1Z Viper on the rise. I know quite well. I have called in many 6 line fire missions to them in my day. MANY. The army uses the AH-64 Apache and I have called in quite a few missions from them as well. NO ONE deals out death like the devils flying Cobra's. Saved me and my Marines on more occasions than I want to remember.
+SGT Johnny USMC Okay man, if you say so. 2 minutes and Google will easily settle this. Or, try usmc.mil and scroll through the various units of 1st 2nd and 3rd MAW and then scroll through the Army's air units and come back and try again.
Good afternoon sir, I'm currently a poolee awaiting shipment to MCRD San Diego in October. I am extremely excited but also nervous. I struggle a little with retaining information at a fast pace. What are boot camp classes like and how could I accel in the classroom? Further, my M.O.S is aviation ordinance, would you happen to know how long schooling might take for that specific M.O.S schooling??? Any response is greatly appreciated. Best regards, Poolee .B.
Adrenaline Junkie Good luck getting into a tank battalion. There are only two of them. If you get a good score on your EST then you have a good chance of getting a good score on your PICAT/ASVAB, and therefore a semi good chance of your MOS or MOS field. So if you don't get 1812, then you may get at least an MOS in the 18xx field.
Adrenaline Junkie Well that's not how it works bro. You can be confident as hell for any job, but the Corps doesn't guarantee jobs, only job fields. If you get a GT score of 90 and there is a slot for the 18xx MOS field on the week you ship (your recruiter can explain that), then you have a chance at 1812. Only a certain amount of slots are opened for each type of MOS. For example with mine, I ship next June, there will be 4 slots opened for the CE MOS field and because I'm a rising senior I get a 410 and will get a MOS 18xx contract. I want Armor too.
Once you reach your black belt in Marine Corps Martial Arts, you can go through a course to become an instructor. You'd most likely teach Marines in the morning, during lunch, or after work. The closest thing to an actual 'Martial Arts MOS' would be a MCMAP Recruit Instructor at a recruiting depot, but I think you need a minimum of 4 years in to do that.
ClaytonFilpo thank you so much! Can i get my black belt in my first four years there? As in will they give me time to get my black belt my first 4 years?
+ClaytonFilpo ok but I'm just not sure because my cousin went into the armed forces and put in a request for a certain MOS, but he ended up not getting it
Everyone has a cousin that did something that contradicts what I'm telling you. Trust me. Go in there. Lobby for yourself. Don't accept anything less than the MOS you want IN WRITING. Period.
i know this is and old video, but i was wondering if you could go to MOS school multiple times if you wanted to do different things after your contract expires?
You talk to your recruiter, once you've settled on an MOS you just make sure your recruiter puts it into your contract that you're going to be X MOS and you're done.
+Larry Sanders You can be an 0331 machine gunner, then as a B billet, you can send in a package for drill instructor. However, if you want to go as a MP(5811) You would have to lat move to 0331, which isn't always simple.
I'm looking to be a 5811, but I've been hearing that many people don't get the specific jobs they desire. How often does that happen. Will I somehow become something horrible like a "Waste Management Specialist" when I at first wanted to become an MP?
I know that, I've just heard that the Marine Corps ultimately decides where it needs you. Even in active duty, my mos would be secured if I signed up for it?
Raul Graciano There is an MOS field that includes "Supply, Accounting, and Legal" including 4421 Legal Services Specialist...~ assuming nothing has changed
Man i really want in, but my dad parents dont want me to go!All they care about is just my schooling and going to college. How should i convince my parents?
Show them me! You can still go into the Marines and earn college credits, learn A LOT about a job you love, and then get out and go to college FOR FREEEEE
Go Reserves... First ensure academic success upon graduating high school so you have college to fall back on (Not everyone graduates Recruit Training- so be prepared for a worst case scenario)
hey Clayton I have a couple of questions, first do I have to chose a mos, second if I do have to chose what if I already have a applicable skill "for example I take metal trades in boces" do I still have to go to mos school?
And another note for my job that I have chosen my recruiter told me I can get an AA or even a BA while active duty if I bust my ass, is that true? or is it all a fluke
***** The Marines have so, so many great jobs. (the same as any other service, really.) Just about any job you find in the navy and airf orce can be found in one form or another in the marines.
MMA in the marine corps is known as MCMAP. It'd widely regarded as sort of a joke, HOWEVER, there are some badass instructors and it does teach you a lot of great leadership principals. You can become an instructor on the side to help teach other Marines and help them promote faster and learn marine corps traits. The only full time job is if you were to go to Parris Island as a staff sgt and become a mcmap instructor for recruits (a very very slim chance)
***** Ask yourself what you like to do, what interests you? For me, it's video editing and being goofy on camera. So, I made it my job! You like math? There's a job for that. You like finance? job. Maybe you wanted to be a weatherman, there's even a job for that. You just gotta dig deep. There's so many jobs, there's even a job to be a horse groomer. Ya, ik.
+USMC Devildog Depends on your attitude really. Security forces guys promote a lot quicker than regular grunts, so they definitely have that goin for them
ClaytonFilpo Alright thats the contract I signed for and have just been hearing a lot that it sucks and ill hate my time in and things along those lines. I mainly signed that job because I was told I travel alot as security forces, do you know if thats true or not?
Thank you for all your helpful videos! I want to join the Marines has a combat correspondent as well, but I am afraid I'll end up stuck behind a desk just like I would at a civilian job. Do 4341s ever get deployed or get close to combat zones? What are some of your duties?
+Madeline Griffith Short answer: yes, 4341's deploy all the time. Slightly longer answer: you do learn a lot about journalism and media, which is good. There is a lot that goes into photos, video, writing, social media, ect. So no, you're not gonna be constantly deployed, but you'll deploy just about as much as any other mos.
Is MOS school a Monday through Friday thing ? Do you get weekends free ? If I have a family obligation one weekend, would they let me be free for a Saturday and sunday
ClaytonFilpo What is a sub MOS? Is it a second choice if your first choice fails, or is it something you can do in addition to your MOS? If the second one is correct, does it have to be within the same field?
Best way to explain it is this: There's Infantry, right? But then there's a BUNCH of MOS's that make up Infantry. So when you contract, it'll say infantry. BUT, when you get to school, you'll have to choose between different Infantry jobs. If you fail, there's no telling where they'll re-class you. Could be infantry, but it could not.
I'm considering joining up as an ESG (Embassy Security). This MOS is pretty hard to find a ton of information on. Anyone know of any collateral duties that you have to do? What about morale and job satisfaction? I appreciate the help, thank you.
clayton i told my recruiter i wanted public affairs like you and he told me their was a 5,000 dollar bonus and i signed up for public affairs, but it had a name something like mass communications, im confused, did i get the job?
Good Evening, Sir. (USMC poolee formalities aside) OMGGG CLAYTON YOURE THE MAAAAN, BRO i cant wait to be a a marine just like you im a poolee now still in high achool i leave on august 7, is bootcamp really that physically demanding? i hear you have to pull off 7 and 9 mile hikes...
My recruiter already told me that he couldn't get me just 2111. Said he could get me small arms tech, machinist, or electro optics repairer on the contract. Which I would be happy with. Could they end up sticking me in a different MOS under ordnance? Or would I be guaranteed to end up in one of those three if that's how it written? Thanks and sorry if that's confusing.
In jobs like that, you can get promised a position within the field, but it wouldn't be until the end of boot camp that you find out the exact job you'll have within the field. If that makes sense.
It doesn't HAVE to, but it is very smart to do so. On your resume are you going to tell them you drove AAV's and crushed stuff when you are applying for a taxi driver or bus driver?
World War Tanks Everyone and their brother wants to be an 0311 when they first sign up. Enlisting in a different MOS allows you to pick up skills and trades that set you up for a job after the military. When you get out as an 03xx, employers aren't exactly looking for "machine gunner" on the resume. I have learned video editing, broadcasting, photography, writing, and social media management since I've joined.
ClaytonFilpo After your service (assuming you want to get out eventually) are you going to go for the same "reporting and journalism" field. Or try something else?
If you are smart enough, TAKE INTEL.... If you can get it, DO IT. We don’t have Field Day, that’s enough right there. Everyone is treated pretty equal.
How hard is it to get an infantry mos? I will be enlisting this coming fall and I'll try to go to basic between my freshman and sophomore year of college (I'll be reserve).
i did it man! finally a marine! i got METOC as my MOS
good shit, brother
What’s your rank now?

Is it true at the end of the day the Marine Corp basically picks the job for you after boot camp depending on the avsab scores and the low and high enlistment in a certain field or mos.

Read the fine print on your contracts!
Hail Smedley!
Truer words spoken
Chris Lichowicz I agree 100%. I think it takes 4 logistical Marines to support 1 Grunt. Nothing wrong with supporting the Grunt. Old Marine Sgt 73-77.
If you're open to suggestions, you should definitely make a video on money/finances! Would be interesting/ helpful to hear how you manage your money ect. Thanks for taking time to make these btw, I know it can be time consuming but I appreciate learning stuff from your vids!!
Absolutely, great idea. I'd be happy to make a video on finances!
you just might be the smartest sounding marine i've ever met
katie lee Don't let the good looks fool ya. Just as dull in as the rest;)
I'm going in for aviation mechanic. I'm hoping for something like ospreys.

Manimal Gaming 19d
A lot of MOSs do, it depends on what you want to do.
hey dude you should make a videos about active Duty vs Reserve, it would help a lot of us and tell us the pro and cons of each
03GRUNT_96 Reserve says Infantry Rifleman, he gets Rifleman. Active duty says Infantry Rifleman, he could get:
Artillery
Rifleman
Ammo Technician
Tank Operator
Humvee Driver
0311 for life
Luisito Santiago that's rifleman, right?
Russ Irons yes
Luisito Santiago this made me think of eric andre
0317 FOR LIFE
Bullet catcher
How do you make sure your M.O.S. is secured?
Get it in writing from your recruiter
+ClaytonFilpo what type of writing? like a contract or just on a blank peace of paper? because this is confusing to me
+irontale travelbat When you enlist, you sign a contract. In the contract, you should get the guarantee - in writing - that you'll have the job you signed up for.
ClaytonFilpo Thank you for explaining that to me :D have a nice day :D
When could you put in time to move up in belt colors?
My recruiter put me down for electronics and I want infantry. Do electronics. Ship. You'll be happy
Do 2 or 3 years of that and reinlist for infantry. I don't know that's what I'm planning when I sign up
Clayton what does the electronics mos usually pertain to?
Also are you alowed to bring your phone to mos school
If you have questions about what jobs there are specificly go on to Marines.com use the career tool and there is a list of evrey area and all the jobs on the specific area
I want to be a gunsmith but I have no information on it and cannot seem to find any??
Hey Clayton can you talk about bootcamp and tips of being ready ? Much appreciated bro
so when do you get to chose your mos field
Hey I'm planning on going in as an electrician I don't care either way but how often do they see combat
What do you do when deployed? Like how does communications work in war?
thought about doing swat after marines.
Me too
What division?
+Volrest Volrest dont know yet
+Volrest Volrest might do welding
you have to be a cop for a while
When you recapped it really helps. Thanks!
Are you a photographer?, Nah I'm a combat correspondent. Classic FMJ
Can you do an enlisted job if you join as an officer for example 'Regional Band'
Some schools ate long some schools are short I spent a year in my school but most are 3 months but some are shorter some are longer

James Sakimae First you must complete 4 years of infantry, then you can switch to silent drill. I believe that's how it goes
ClaytonFilpo thank you
My brother is going to the us mc 😰🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Public Affairs it is, thanks Clayton Flippo!
What Do you do as an MP in the corps? i wanna go Lapd later so what would be a good job for my future in the civilian world?
what are some jobs in the marine corps that gain ton of respects, and what are some jobs that everyone wants to be in?
Most jobs people think about when you hear "marine" is probably 0331 or any infantry job
All jobs are respected tho
1311... O311 is what you're looking for.
what cant a LCpl do to a pfc? i guess im asking like, could they tell you to do something and you HAVE to listen?
Technically, yes. But those ranks are so low that if you try and pull that in the fleet, someone's gonna tell your to fuck off haha
I'm thinking about going for an infantry and I specifically want 0311. I would like to know the pros and cons of 0311 from anyone with experience.
What if I wanted to become a sniper? I know its one of the hardest things in the marine core to do or should I look into the army?
One question.. i have a tattoo on my left arm of prayer hands and my sisters name.. think that will hurt my chances of joining? Its like a inch bigger than my hand
Most likely :(
how can i get infantry in the marines?

So I want to be 03xx but I want to insure I get infantry. Will the recruiter pick and MOS for me secretly without me knowing/telling me. I guess basically my question is will he put me as a janitor without me knowing.
+Daniel Buckner You will be able to lock in as a 03xx which means you can't be switched last minute to another job -- even though you're still gonna be a janitor.
oh okay, thank you. that's true all marines are professional janitors lol
exactly
Do 5812 get deployed like the 03's because I know it's and mp mos but I've seen them with infantry
Hi,my recruiter keeps telling me they only have radio operater but I want to become a MP for reserves . He says that the station where I want which is in hialeah,FL ,they only have radio operator . What should I do ? I really want to become a Military Police.
cristian o Wait it out until an MP job opens up. Don't let the recruiter pressure you.
cristian o Try another branch of the military that will accommodate your wish, Don't be rushed into a job you don't want or don't enlist until there's an opening for MP.
How long is mos school for heavy equipment operator ???
I wanted to do Army and try to become a ranger. I am obsessed with always being on front lines. But I watched Marine videos and Army videos and now I find myself wanting to become a Marine. What would you suggest I should do if I wanna be on the front lines all the time.
+Charlie love it, it's my dreams
+Yours Hero I am no marine but I want to be one and I want to be front lines also! So I would say infantry or rifleman :)
Oh ok. And thanks! :)
Kyle Truszk_ I'm deciding between tanker or paratrooper.
When can you use your phone after boot camp ?
You will get it back after boot camp. But then you'll go to Marine Combat Training, where they'll take it away again until training is done. After that, you're free forevaaaa
do you know anything about the musician MOSes because I have been thinking long and hard about what I want to do and I have no clue what I really would like to do in the marine corp however I do enjoy playing music but I was more thinking of that as a job I do after the marine corp
They are very very much about the spit and polish...
Andy Fletcher wym
cooltobeaguy....???
Could you elaborate more on public affairs, I was interested in the job as well.
Hey Clayton, I want to be a firearms instructor. Is there any specific MOS for that? Or would I have to do something else to work my way up to that?
Yes, it's called being a "range coach." Basically, it's a secondary job that you can pick up. So if you went into a job in the armory, you could then earn your way as a range coach later on. It would take a little while for sure, but it's a chill job.
2020 changed everything.
My son had no idea what MOS school he will be sent, even though he really, really wanted to be in heavy duty MOS. He was sent the least place he wanted to be😞 MOS combat engeniring☹
What about the ASVAB test ?
Stick with becoming a HMDA in the Navy or should I join the Marines?
Do you know if there is a specific MOS to be a gunner in a Cobra? Thanks
I stand corrected
Best regards,
Poolee .B.
Jaredb2241 my son is shipping out of St Louis Sept 6th and his MO is Aviation Support. Good Luck I'm sure you'll cross paths sometime.
Is a machine gunner a good job
Auxinn idk. I want to be a tanker but I don't know what skills that would offer me outside of the marine corp
Allen Saunders thanks
Allen Saunders I really want to get into a tank battalion and I am confident I can do it
Adrenaline Junkie Well that's not how it works bro.
I'm a Jiu Jitsu instructor in California and I'm wondering if there's an MOS for martial arts or jiu jitsu instructor in the Marine Corps...
You can earn your black belt within the first year, most definitely. You'd have to be super motivated though
Can anyone tell me if there's a sure fire way to get infantry or armor?
Walk into a marine recruiter office and say I want 0311, in about 2 seconds he will hand you a contract.
+Greg Akopyan exactly what greg said
+ClaytonFilpo ok but I'm just not sure because my cousin went into the armed forces and put in a request for a certain MOS, but he ended up not getting it
Everyone has a cousin that did something that contradicts what I'm telling you. Trust me. Go in there. Lobby for yourself. Don't accept anything less than the MOS you want IN WRITING. Period.
+ClaytonFilpo ok thanks. Btw, is how would u apply to become a sniper?
Is Marine Guard Force any good?
i know this is and old video, but i was wondering if you could go to MOS school multiple times if you wanted to do different things after your contract expires?
Most of the time, yes actually. A lot of MOS schools will teach civilians as well as long as their company pays for it.
How will you got about securing your MOS
You talk to your recruiter, once you've settled on an MOS you just make sure your recruiter puts it into your contract that you're going to be X MOS and you're done.
What about Marine Band?
is a MP a sub MOS cause I wanna be a 0331 and when I hit Sergeant I wanted to become a DI
+Larry Sanders You can be an 0331 machine gunner, then as a B billet, you can send in a package for drill instructor. However, if you want to go as a MP(5811) You would have to lat move to 0331, which isn't always simple.
Hahaha sure......... I would say they support 03's not protect them what-so-ever. Also were you in? *****
Is it possible you could create a video about some of the uniforms the Marine Corp uses and their nuances? -Thanks anyways
I'm looking to be a 5811, but I've been hearing that many people don't get the specific jobs they desire. How often does that happen. Will I somehow become something horrible like a "Waste Management Specialist" when I at first wanted to become an MP?
Just make sure you sign on for the mos you choose. You can pick your mos
I know that, I've just heard that the Marine Corps ultimately decides where it needs you. Even in active duty, my mos would be secured if I signed up for it?
+Rookie yep. 100%. That's a contract my friend, no one can break that
+ClaytonFilpo
Ok, that makes me relax a bit. Thanks for answering my questions and for the helpful vids.
Hi, sorry I ask you so many questions but I have one more. I want to be an 0311 but my parents are against it... Any advice?
+Dakota Snyder Have a sit down discussion between you, them, and your recruiter
I wanna get into business and law what job should I look into in the Marine core?
Raul Graciano mp prob
Raul Graciano There is an MOS field that includes "Supply, Accounting, and Legal" including 4421 Legal Services Specialist...~ assuming nothing has changed
FYI, it's Marine CORPS.
What mos is for support and stuff like that
Mr Fathead what do you mean support
Everything that isn't infantry.
I want to be a combat Engineer, do I have to pick 3 jobs and hope I get the right one or can I secure the job like you said?
I want to be a dog handler and I'm scared what will happen if I fail
Are you allowed to leave the country during your 10 days of leave after boot camp ?
Matthew Pinnock no, Maybe puerto rico, if you have family. But otherwise, no. never.
Okay, thanks :)
hey Clayton I have a couple of questions, first do I have to chose a mos, second if I do have to chose what if I already have a applicable skill "for example I take metal trades in boces" do I still have to go to mos school?
_Pyro 32324 yes you would.
And another note for my job that I have chosen my recruiter told me I can get an AA or even a BA while active duty if I bust my ass, is that true? or is it all a fluke
na man, its true. im currently working on my associate's
The only full time job is if you were to go to Parris Island as a staff sgt and become a mcmap instructor for recruits (a very very slim chance)
well you cant start classes for tuition assistance till your 2 years in, so unless you pay out of pocket that ia mostly bs
Ya, ik.
Is motor t a good job?
hell yeah 2nd FSSG 2nd TSB A Co.(the red patchers!)
You get Motor T?
Truck driver lol
Can you actually choose your job in the Marine Corps? I’ve been told that all they give you are open contracts
Considering Public Affairs as my #1. Thanks for the info. Needed it. Motivated me more. Gotta better description for me on the mos tho?
Check out the Defense Information School. They have a website and fb page. (it's the public affairs mos school)
Thank ya.
So 56 training days and I assume thats not including weekends? Sorry, tryin to figure out the course length for the girlfriend.
training days include saturdays and not Sundays
Thank You.
So what jobs is the Corps really looking for, and what jobs have a high promotion rate
Whats your experience with marine security forces, do people generally like their job or hate it? Would really mean alot if you replied.
I mainly signed that job because I was told I travel alot as security forces, do you know if thats true or not?
mmmmm, yes and no. You'll probably get bounced around to different stations, but they are not lavish by any means. Take Guantanamo for example
Oh I see, thanks for the information and your time, I can't find a whole lot on marine sf
John M Yes.
As long as no one in your class fucks up and gets your LIBO secured, you should be fine.
+Bubba O thank you sir, were you embassy security?
What's a good MOS that I can benefit from in the civilian world after I'm done serving in the Marine Corps?
There's 300+ MOS's. Take your pick. You just gotta make sure it's applicable to what you would like to do later in life.
clayton i told my recruiter i wanted public affairs like you and he told me their was a 5,000 dollar bonus and i signed up for public affairs, but it had a name something like mass communications, im confused, did i get the job?
You got the job (and an awesome bonus!) They recently changed the name of "mass communicator"
Hey Clayton. I'm looking to go into ordnance. Can I get a specific MOS such as 2111? Or am I only guaranteed to get any MOS in the field of ordnance?
My recruiter already told me that he couldn't get me just 2111. Said he could get me small arms tech, machinist, or electro optics repairer on the contract. Which I would be happy with. Could they end up sticking me in a different MOS under ordnance? Or would I be guaranteed to end up in one of those three if that's how it written? Thanks and sorry if that's confusing.
In jobs like that, you can get promised a position within the field, but it wouldn't be until the end of boot camp that you find out the exact job you'll have within the field. If that makes sense.
+ClaytonFilpo yeah I get what your saying. Thank you for your reply and thanks for all the videos.
I want to join the marines but my teeth are fucked. I got hit in the mouth with a baseball. Will that hurt my chances on getting in?
I mean, I've seen some dudes with some jacked up dental. I think you'll be ok
Ok thanks for the message/ comment back
Do you get paid at mcrd boot camp
Do Combat Correspondents travel a lot? Or are you primarily stationed somewhere? Do you ever actually go into combat?
+Alejandro Beltran You get to travel a lot, for sure
I'm going to MEPS this Wednesday and I haven't picked my MOS yet. Should I contact my recruiter and pick my MOS?
+Rob Gonzalez not right away, i'm sure you recruiter is taking care of you. just focus on meps for now
Just curious, why does your job you have in the marine corps have to translate into the civ world. I mean I want to be 0311.
It doesn't HAVE to, but it is very smart to do so. On your resume are you going to tell them you drove AAV's and crushed stuff when you are applying for a taxi driver or bus driver?
All I'm saying (and Filpo too) it's good to get technical skills that translate to the civilian world so you get good job experience.
I'll probably go into public relations, but who knows. Anything could happen!
If you are smart enough, TAKE INTEL.... If you can get it, DO IT. We don’t have Field Day, that’s enough right there. Everyone is treated pretty equal.
Have you been deployed? And if you become infantry or 0811, what are the chances for you to deploy?
It's 0311.
You'll deploy for sure!! But maybe not to a combat zone
How hard is it to get an infantry mos? I will be enlisting this coming fall and I'll try to go to basic between my freshman and sophomore year of college (I'll be reserve).
Jeffrey Schindel, Jr. If offered at your nearest (or whichever you report to) reserve base, you get to choose your desired MOS.
Thanks, I wasn't sure if the likeliness of selection was based on PFT scores or something.
Jeffrey Schindel, Jr. ASVAB infantry wont be as demanding. But your PFT would be crucial
I went to Fort Benjamin Harrison to be a reporter. Same school?
+Michael Hawkins (Michael732) The school has jumped around a few times over the years. it's now on Fort Meade in MD
