This was the best old world wars in a while. They quickly pointed out any mistakes and were very careful to avoid any sloppy mistakes. Clarence should play more often.
Major kudos to the Beastman player for sticking it out like he did... That miscast on his 1st turn _really_ screwed him over; but, he took it like a champ & gave the Empire one hell of a fight regardless! Hats off to you my good Sir. 👍
Clarence is the best player you guys have had on. It was kind of refreshing seeing someone well versed in the rules man I really miss playing WHF, the community was amazing.
3 items to point out: 1- It's great to see Clarence back. The way he teaches and explains is very appreciated. 2- Cullen - Great job on this bat rep. 3- Don't ever switch to 9th Age, please. It sucks and 8th is better - only reason I am a Vault Member and will continue to be so while there are OWW. Thank you for the games.
Excellent game. Always a pleasure seeing Clarence. Can't believe that Cullen didn't try the fireball execution in that last turn. Just pump four steam points, move a d6, 3 point steam gun, then also fireball in the magic phase with spare dice. Might have also been worth the vanity dwellers on either of the characters just to see if they fail hard enough.
By far miniwargaming's best battlereps and on TH-cam on a whole, plus Clarence is a real joy to watch playing while getting beat up so bad always keeping his cool. You guys rock. The loss of the Demis was just hilarious though.
Finally some use of chaff units and good tactics - I thought, I would never see them in this battle reports. Also good to see a (former?) ETC player showing sharing some of his tactics. Thumps up!
Fantastic battle rep. Great commentary. You don't rush it or speed up the pace of the talking, but instead take the time to explain what happens. Thank you.
Clarence + Beastmen made this video for me. Seeing an experienced player who knows his rules is always a blast. Throw in a fringe army like Beastmen and you've got yourself a winner.
I may not have played in a long time but I'd say Clarence didn't prepare his army against full-plated knights. He should have used bigger, faster, stronger, fear-causing monsters to help counteract the knight's armor save.
Fairly new sub of the channel, Clarence is a great guy, explains strategics thoroughly, really good player. I'm going to search for other batreps with him, amazing dude.
Small tip when playing Beastmen. It makes a big difference to allow marks for the army. You get info in the Glotkin End Times book. You're using the 50% lords allowance from there, might as well be able to use marks. When not using marks, Beastmen are severely underpowered. Great game though, really enjoyed it.
Rael Since the 50% Lords/Heroes got errata'd into the core rules, it was actually "standard" play. Using marks from the End Times book also let's you add daemons, WoC, roll on the Reign of Chaos table...etc which kind of feels like cheating if you're playing "pure" beastmen.
I would argue you're not really playing Beastmen, you're playing End Times Beastmen, which is a very different animal. End Times rules are generally frowned upon as they are really unbalanced. If you're going to game for advantage, why stop at just using Marks of Chaos?
I suppose it's just a good idea then to sit down with your opponents and hash it out. A lot of folks feel though that "end times beastmen" out of Glottkin sans the weird magic chart is a great fix for the old 7th edition Beastmen book and does a good job of making Beastmen a little more competitive. I agree that a lot of the end times stuff was weird and unbalanced but...8th has basically turned into garage hammer anyway so if you're playing with friends for fun...
If GW does revisit Fantasy I'd like a return to square bases for larger battles and skirmish being an addition to that. I don't know if it's possible to do skirmish with square bases though, I assume AoS went round like 40k for good reason. Love all the old models. Unfortunately the Total War games are probably the only chance I'm gonna get to enjoy fantasy units.
Once again showcasing the power level dif between 8th and older books. As said earlier try 9th Age as the Beastmen are actually really good. Great guy though!
Seems to me some armies were nerfed with their 8th edition books [WoC? still OP tho lol]. And both beastmen and skaven especially seem like strong enough armies to me if played well. While Tomb Kings with an 8th ed book is often touted as one of the weakest armies. Game was lost with the miscast which I suppose you can blame on 8th rules but it was terribly unlucky, Cullen dominated magic for the rest of the game and spewed out toughness buffs. Turned out to be a very fun match anyway! Love Clarence and beastmen!
Skaven in 8th can be absolutely amazing! They seem to be practically made for it despite being an older book. Beastmen are a solid book but in this edition they tend to suffer due to their monsters being made not taking hordes and being able to wound on 6's. I love Tomb Kings, they got me into fantasy and in 7th they were the most balanced book. This meant they were fully capable of winning but you really had to pay attention, there was def no auto win button. In 8th their book suffered(IMO) from overpriced monsters and a lack of focus and the fact that chariots are weak against hordes. Cullen had a very solid list and dominated magic while mostly getting the fights he wanted, Clarence used tactics and did very well despite not having optimized his list against lots of low armour saves. Losing the mage did screw him as Cullen then was able to keep him from hurting his units and kept healing the ones that did get injured. It was fun to watch but as I said this is part of why 9th Age is so exciting, Beastmen can go toe to toe with Dark Elves, High Elves, or WoC that all stomp them now.
easier to move units around, since they need to be line up. Imagine moving 30+ gors one by one into exactly same coherency. And that´s a small unit. In 40k units aren´t usually that big and even if so, it doesn´t really matter in what coherency you finish up.
How odd, playing the empire with virtually no missle/firearm troops. Those archers are nothing. Against the heavy infantry of the Beastmen you would think you would try and fight them at as much range as possible. The steam tank was also quite useless until the very end.
That's true, that's a mechanic I didn't expect. However for what the Steam Tank costs you could probably get a couple squads of gunners that have free range of movement.
This was the best old world wars in a while. They quickly pointed out any mistakes and were very careful to avoid any sloppy mistakes. Clarence should play more often.
pleese dont call it that it makes me feel ...sentimental
I love how clarence quickly and clearly explains every decision he makes.

Why can't you still play it?
Clarence!! I've missed you.
Thank you Cullen for the closeups, I've missed those..
It's CLARENCE! :D
Great batrep, loved the pacing and how well everything was explained. Unlucky miscast first turn really made it an uphill battle for the beastmen.

CLARENCE!!!
One of the best bat reps on this channel. Clarence, the way you explain teach and strategize live is amazing
Cullen and Clarence, you guys make a really awesome team for batreps!
Very Nice BatRep. I like it how clarence explain his moves and what he will do, this is great. You both are my favourit Fantasy Player with Steve :D
The positioning and movement of Clarence's army alone makes this bat-rep worth watching (even more than once). Very nice. Please more of this!

This lore of life wizard deserves a promotion
Clarence!!!
Much better than mindless Steve-0 movements

22:53 2+2 is 4...quick maths! #tanksnothot

YES BEASTMEN!
beatmen? fuck yes.
Great job Cullen! Looking forward to many more of your batreps!
Great to see Clarence back, and great job on the batreps Cullen
Clarence my man! :)) Not gonna miss that one, no way, sir! ;)
great game! you forgot your Demigryph stomp, wouldn´t have made a difference but anyways.
It’s great seeing Clarence back on the channel!
Very much appreciate Clarence's thoughts on his decisions while playing. Thank you.

But you don't have to take any of those units and can still have a "pure" Beastmen army. It's totally up to the discretion of the player.
I would argue you're not really playing Beastmen, you're playing End Times Beastmen, which is a very different animal. End Times rules are generally frowned upon as they are really unbalanced. If you're going to game for advantage, why stop at just using Marks of Chaos?

Without an across the board points reduction marks just make beastmen very expensive units for no armour saves
I like how Clarence walks through the math for every roll and measurement. I do this for every move I make. (Annoying the hell out of my buddies)
cullen you fool! You should have MOVED the steam tank on turn 6 and fireballed the wizard!
Clarence was the reason I joined the vault!
If GW does revisit Fantasy I'd like a return to square bases for larger battles and skirmish being an addition to that. I don't know if it's possible to do skirmish with square bases though, I assume AoS went round like 40k for good reason.

Try using a level 4 Shadows. The hexes really help Beastmen more than Death will, unless you get a lucky Spirit Leech/Purple Sun.
Clarence is just the man. Such a cool dude
Great job, Clarence! Great to see you playing Empire!
I like how you both played i know it was 3 years ago have any of yous played any other games
I don't think ive ever seen a Steam Tank perform in these batreps. They always get stuck, disabled by misfires or tar pitted by banshees :')
One of the best fantasy guests
yo those Ungors ran the Demis off the field... what the fuuuu
Man i never get to see beastmen. This is pretty awesome.
I love your channel ¡ Specially the fantasy reports, awesome to be able to see beastmen :3
I feel like every time I see beastmen on here, they just get crippled by the dice gods before anything even happens
goood old times i miss this so much :-(

oh wow awesome guest! magic is a fickle mistress
It's cool to see beastmen, but where are minotaurs and big monsters? :D
Bjun a
Y'know I've noticed something through many of these videos. I have been call about 80% of the dice rolls made.
That was some costly mistake getting your demi's side charged Cullen :P
Clarence!! You back! At last!
Two beautiful armies there👍
Love to see this beastmen army in aos
Clarence!
Clarence is the best guy on here tbh 😂
Hmmm. Steam tank definitely gained one wound back but went from 5 to 7 27:50
two spells were successfully cast, so that means 2 wounds for the steam tank i guess
CLARENCE! i love him! :D
Around 29 min.. "misfire dice". :D Not artillery dice! xD
Did...did Cullen forget he had Hatred on his knights from the priest?
Btw can you guys stop it with the 9th Age comments. 8.5 ed perfectly fine.
An excellent game. Praise Sigmar!
Can someone explain why they use those tray-bases things? I usually watch 40K stuff and I've never seen these before!
easier to move units around, since they need to be line up. Imagine moving 30+ gors one by one into exactly same coherency. And that´s a small unit.
In 40k units aren´t usually that big and even if so, it doesn´t really matter in what coherency you finish up.
Makes sense, thank you!
move over cullen , clarence is back!
Finally beastmen!!!
The over reliance on magic really hurt 8th edition.
Does Clarence parents have a real good marriage?
That movie came out 21 years ago. 15 years before this batrep. Still made me laugh.
@@altdorfkalle6227 :D
Superb report.
cullian looks really good!
Does anyone know where I can buy fantasy figures in November 2018 ?
How does the empire BSB have toughness 8?
Clarence is my favorite player to see!
Now i know why beastmen aint in 40k they got annihilated by the dice gods in this battle lol
I heard Clarence lives at home with both parents. And clarence's parents have a real good marriage
OMG that ungore vs demi fight XD
Beastmen! Yes!
Thanks RON^^
Clarence, go play 9th Age, Beastmen are actually good in that game.
And you can't loose your Level 4 on the first spell, when only throwing 3 dice -_-
"And you can't lose your Level 4 on the first spell because you never bring the useless git in the first place.'' Fixed for the 9th Age.
hell yeah, I just added 20 ungor raiders to my chaos army, they are the only archers chaos can get
?O_o
9th age is a fantasy game, it isn’t Warhammer fantasy
This is like playing total war. Harpies are only useful to tie down cav or arch
Thin Jack Black vs Bold JAckie Chan?
Beastmen vs bretonnia!
Also bravest Ungors ever!!
Omg a Clarence video!?!
CLARENCE!
How odd, playing the empire with virtually no missle/firearm troops. Those archers are nothing. Against the heavy infantry of the Beastmen you would think you would try and fight them at as much range as possible.

Well Clarence did a great job railroading the steamtank making it far less effective than it could hav been.
That's true, that's a mechanic I didn't expect. However for what the Steam Tank costs you could probably get a couple squads of gunners that have free range of movement.
Dont Beastmen have Ambush?
holy fuck that lvl4wiz fucked up
Clarence is so good
Does Clarence’s parents have a real good marriage ?
KLARENS IS ALVES MVP!!!!!!
beastmen o.O NICE
25:37 Same bruh
25:38 KEKW
Bunch of bukkake for Clarence in the comments lol
Reminds me of how lol some of the rules in WHF were. Still good, though.
Great
