Red Dead Revolver is a true "Wild West" story. Red Dead Redemption and RDR2 are not about the wild west, they are about the changing time between wild west and tamed west into civilization.
Red dead revolver is a spaghetti western, feels more like the classical western movies with simple moral lines and cowboys having attitudes similar to knights in Arthurian legends. Red dead redemption is more like the subversion of that.
Red always felt like a Clint Eastwood type of character. John was like a Deke Thornton, and Arthur is definitely a John Wayne. It's nice how each protagonist references a different type of Western hero
Red is definitely John Marston, you can tell by the scar on his face, rdr2 says it came from a bear attack to create backstory, but this was made before rdr, and wasn't seen by rockstar as the first game of the series
@@captaincodfish164 bear attack, wolf attack, either way rdr2 makes their own backstory. And can you tell me the differences between, red, and John Marston?
When Red is mentioned in RDR2 I was jumping like crazy. So happy and what a badass Red is he is literally became a legendary bounty hunter in RDR series.
I have a sneaking suspicion that red dead revolver was gonna be a spiritual successor to Gun Smoke. This was an early 80s Capcom arcade game, and it had a boss that was fat and covered in dynamite, much like the boss in Revolver called Pig Josh.
Fun fact: Red Dead Revolver was initially owned by Capcom as they were the publishers of Angel Studio, the developers behind the game. At first the game was supposed to be a more Japanese style arcade shooter, but after Take Two bought the studio and rebranded it as Rockstar San Diego, they reworked the game into what it is now.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, the player can encounter a man camping around Hennigan's Stead; he mentions that, before his brother died, he used to tell him stories of Red Harlow and will tell the stories to the player. In game files, the man in question is labeled as "REDHARLOW"

@@tarzan5932 Well no shit that it's basically GTA western. They did make Red Dead Revolver which was a pretty terrible game in comparison to GUN. Rockstar took note of Gun's success and when they finally did release RD1, they took everything that worked in GUN, including a lot of its mechanics/gameplay, and Rockstar vastly improved their own franchise. This isn't even new news, the inspiration from GUN was well noted by fans and game critics. GUN feels more like a predecessor to what Red Dead would eventually become. It's still a great game for its era.
Man that pig josh mission gave me so much anxiety playing it as a kid you never know when he’s gunna be running at you, especially on the turret it’s so nerve racking not knowing where he is! 100% one of the hardest bosses in the game.
This game was paying homage to all the legendary Spaghetti Westerns that had a cultural impact during the 1960s and 1970s. At the time, the developers gained the rights to some of the musical scores from said spaghetti westerns to create an immersive experience. The main theme is the main theme from Lo Chiamavano King, The tutorial section is entitled "Jackie" from the Minnesota Clay. Even some of the characters are nods to iconic spaghetti western characters. Mister Black for instance was based off Franco Nero's Django since he has a gatling gun in his coffin. While not a western reference, Mister Kelly is based on Leon the Professional. Overall, this is a really fun game and I really wish they would go back and attempt a remaster of this.
I just love that Rockstar used music from various Spaghetti Westerns for the score for this game. Favorite track is the whistling music during the train sequence which was taken from They Call Me Cemetery aka A Bullet for a Stranger.

Man this game was legendary i remember playing this as a teen and my dad was a huge western fan he loved watching all the western shows that came on tv but when i played this game he was there with me every step of the way including the duels
One of the first games I ever did 100% I even remember the weird method for unlocking the final showdown character. Involved burning to death a few times in a showdown match against AI and then winning the match while playing a specific character. Weird as hell but man the challenge levels, hard mode, all the decent replay ability for a game that old, it was damn good.
Played and beat this legend. Actually snuck into my uncle's room at my grandma's while he was in rehab. Snagged this game from his Christmas stocking, opened it and played it. I got grilled hard for that stunt.
There was something really satisfying about the way you handled and showed off the gameplay. Sometimes it’s frustrating to watch people play old games that I feel sentimental about but you really hit the nail on the head with this one and I thank you for it.
Just played this after beating rdr2. It was fun and interesting to see the roots of the series. Having not played rdr, I'm excited to see how it'll go. Music and general western stereotypes were superb.

@@tarzan5932 no reason to act sarcastic over it, he made a good point originally. And obviously rdr took inspiration from their main hit gta so it’s not like you’re over here sounding super intellectual as opposed to just coming off as a smart ass 🗿 everyone knows the shit already you attempting too spit 🥱
I just got on the houses and shot him from there
This game was paying homage to all the legendary Spaghetti Westerns that had a cultural impact during the 1960s and 1970s.
Literally read your comment during the train section
I actually did play this back on PS2 and got it again on PS4 Backwards Compatibility
You can’t backwards compat a ps2 game
@@CrackerWhacker1 I wonder if he means PS Now
@@Glennboh95 it literally got ported to ps4

I remember playing this as a kid!
The franchise has definitely come a long way, and young gamers nowadays are for sure lucky to have the absolute masterpieces out now.
As good as this knee was - it in no way compares to RDR1 or 2.
I used to play this game for hours on end.. my brother had a ps2, and honestly now that I’m older I think he took the memory cards out. BUT. I would play this game from the beginning almost on a daily basis due to not having a memory card. I never got sick of it. Everything about it was beautiful and great. I loved the story and how well the shooting mechanics were done. It really made you feel like a legend. I used to play the multiplayer mode against bots for hours. I loved the card system.
The multiplayer was amazing. All the cool weapons you could use!
I done the same thing with GUN
You can Buy it on ps4 and ps5 digitally
Me and my buddies still quote the character select lines to this day.
This game was so awesome. I've always wondered how it would hold up today with some (major) polishing
Bro same
2:22 reds dad got shot they had to use the halo sniper sound fx😂
Man this game was legendary i remember playing this as a teen and my dad was a huge western fan he loved watching all the western shows that came on tv but when i played this game he was there with me every step of the way including the duels
Badass man best childhood
One of the first games I ever did 100% I even remember the weird method for unlocking the final showdown character. Involved burning to death a few times in a showdown match against AI and then winning the match while playing a specific character. Weird as hell but man the challenge levels, hard mode, all the decent replay ability for a game that old, it was damn good.
Manny Quinn is arguably the best Showdown character.
@@arkeezy. I would agree if not for the sheer hilarity that Cooper The Barrel Man brings.
@@gravestheranger7945 As a Cooper main, I can confirm. I've, quite literally, never seen a man in a barrel before.
Red may be John Marston's self insert character. He writes books and tells stories about Red in the newer games.
Played and beat this legend. Actually snuck into my uncle's room at my grandma's while he was in rehab. Snagged this game from his Christmas stocking, opened it and played it. I got grilled hard for that stunt.
😂
This classic needs a remaster ASAP.
Remake
@@tobiohnea3309 A Remake that also come with a Remaster so you can enjoy it on your PS5.
Why? It was trash
It kind of had one with a PS2 classic version on PS4.
@@ascendancy4900 it didnt age well to say the least lol
3:36 I'm having flashbacks of read dead redemption 1. Those 2 rocks are unmistakable
Music and general western stereotypes were superb.
the quickdraw dueling mechanic was so cool back then, no other game pulled it off that good for a long time
I love this guy because he not one of those people who just talk trash about old games
Shame not so many people played it back then, had so much fun playing local multiplayer with my brothers, also replayed the hell out of the singleplayer. Underrated gem😍
Wdym? Tons of people played it... R* bought it because it was popular enough to generate more IP.
@@x8jason8x Take-Two bought it before it was fully developed, then Rockstar continued the rest of the work and added their touch to it. What I meant that many people think that RDR1 was the first so they skipped Revolver and didn't know it existed. Of course, this is based on what I have seen and read.
I REMEMBER THIS GAME NOW. Geez, what a throwback. i remember having to redo the big josh mission over and over. Thanks for the nostalgia!
I’m defo a red dead og fan. The first game before I played red read redemption. I this game is underrated. They was cool diverse characters, good theme song and not a bad story. The only difference this wasn’t open world. If they did remake adding open world concept then this would be just good
Red is uncle, uncle even said he was called the one shot kid when he was younger and red is the one shot kid
yupp
It's so sad that Red's cowboy life was cut short by *LUMBAGO*
thanks for uploading this, this brought back some memories for sure.. i remember being around 14 when this came out, and this game was so freaking epic. i've legit forgotten how good this game was for its time and era. in my eyes, this was better then the first GTA, and if one looks at what graphics and how smooth games can be in todays world. this even beats San Andreas
I think the shooting mechanics were better than GTA, and definitely worked out well for both RDR and GTA that they could borrow from one another.
I played this all the time as a kid with my dad, as well as Gun. Gaming was the only times we got along so the games we played have always had a special nostalgia for me.
Bullshit . Be gratefull you had a father
I think gun was the superior game out of the to
Two*
This is the game you would see someone playing in a movie about a kid that plays too many video games
I remember playing this game when I was a kid and I absolute loved it. I remember being stuck on a part where they are shooting off a train with a Gatling gun and you’re trying to catch up, I never beat it after hours and hours of trying.
I remember me and my brother picking this up with our blockbuster game pass (!!!) speaking of nostalgia and absolutely loved it… when RDR came out we where more exited then anyone we knew and it blew me away!! Great video Jayvee
"Mom can we get rdr2"
"No you already got rdr at home"
* the rdr and rdr2 at home*
This is one of my favorite games that i played as a child, I recently bought it again and its still a gem
Nice to see the connection to the clowns in GTA 5
Jayvee: pigjosh is the hardest boss
Radagon of the Golden order: am I a joke to you?
The game was a classic I loved playing it with my friend when I was 7/8. The game made me love Red Dead Redemption even more
Red is actually uncle, you can tell by uncles scarred right hand and scars himself.
I laughed so hard when he said is that where Jon wick got the idea for Jon wick
:)
Its funny I read your comment when he said it.
Played it back in the day on PS2 and beat it multiple times along with other great western game Gun.
theres a theory with a lot of evidence, that uncle from red dead redemption 1 and 2 is an older version of red from red dead revolver
Love this game. We used to get together after school and play against each other for hours. Red Dead and Dark Watch were always in the Xbox. The Governor was wayyyy overpowered and we banned him kind of like Oddjob in Goldeneye.
1:35 'Rockstar always does good sound effects"
Capcom: ok guess I'll die
I’m meant he isn’t wrong because Capcom sold the games most ideal were removing from the game Rockstar sound designer
This is so different from the others cause it started as a capcom game, but they dropped it, I believe, and Rockstar finished it.
this makes me wish i played this game back in the day! i would of been a junior in highschool when this game out but i think i was too busy being a sweatlord on CS 1.6 lol!
awesome video! makes the red dead series that much better knowing there was an earlier game!
i played it so much everytime you beat the game you unlocked a higher difficulty my best gaming moments i even fantasized how awesome it would be to have a giant open world lol
Have you ever played Samurai Western? It has the same style of this game, and it's AMAZINGLY fun, I was really impressed by that obscure and underrated PS2 game
The Red Dead Series is so solid.
Edit: I swear that the lip syncing in this game is better than odyssey.
AC lost me on origins. the world was great but somehow it wasnt fun at all
@@Fame_Rate weird. I loved origins. I thought odyssey was boring. And I think that valhalla is the worst game ever crested

That’s crazy that the credit intro song was actually used in Django Unchained opening sequence. I recognized it right away. 👍🏼
I used to Shred this game smoking bongs with my buddies all the time. Some of the missions actually were hard as hell near the end of the game! Super fun game and funny lines and exciting story line
its such a good game to smoke and play
I loved this game so much, I remember all the previews before it came out at first it was trying to be a different type of game and they changed it alot but damn I loved it, unlocked everything and played it to hell and back.
Red Harlow is actually mentioned in Red Dead 2 & 1
I hope you keep playing this one. I never played this game (although I was aware about it WELL before Red Dead Redemption came out) but it surprisingly looks really great. Not nearly on the same level as RDR but still, for nostalgic purposes it looks fun enough AND actually I am sure there are some easter eggs for RDR in it somewhere if you look hard enough. Rockstar loves them some easter eggs.
Red Harlow is spoken about/hinted at all through both RDR games, but more like a legend. Like the events of RD Revolver were highly exaggerated.
I remember seeing this game in a game informer when I was around 9 -10 I begged my parents to get it and they found it on ebay. I played the hell outta it had everyone but Mr Kelley because he was too fast.
Found the game was on ps4 and got it for $10 a few years ago.
I was so sad that the only references to the game were in like dlc characters for multi-player.
Also long live the best character Jack Swift.
If you like this game, you’d probably also like GUN which came out around the same time. Another classic from back in the day.
Thats the one I played its a core memory, I remember being home from school sick and playing it
I remember playing for the first time on a saturday it was so fun I completed it the next day. beautiful game
The fact that the scars on his cheek look like whiskers, like he's coming from a Halloween party, will never cease to amuse me.
Hell yeah! I loved this game! Such a spaghetti western cheese that is so much fun. Plus the music was just classic.
"He's the guy who's the talk of the town, with the restless gun..."
This is so nostalgic cause I remember playing this when I was like 4 on the ps2
12:12 He did buy that saloon, became his own best customer, and ended up as Uncle in RDR and RDR2.
The multiplayer was hysterically fun, with tons of extra characters and stages to unlock.
I agree. My brother and I loved multiplayer. It was underrated
This Game and “Gun” were the Best!!! Both good for there time I recommend “Gun” it’s similar to Rdr it’s open World An they have legendary animals you can kill.
wish they remake this, one of my first games i played after Big Mutha Truckers
I played it!!! I loved the fast draw mechanic in this game!!!
Earlier today I downloaded and began playing. It’s not really open world, but the missions are fun as hell.
This game was so much fun back in the day
Just a classic
My dad had this game for ps2 and my brother and I were so hyped to play it but it would load for ever so we never had the change to play it🥲🥲 the loading is nostalgic at least hahaha
no it's not renamed jhon, IT'S UNCLE lol
Damn so many memories. My step brother and I played the hell out this when we were younger. The multi-player was especially fun. I don't think it was online, I'm pretty sure it was meant to be local multi-player and with a controller adapters it could support up to 4 player plus bots. Endless hours playing this. Red Harlow needed a cameo of some kind in the Redemption games. Hopefully we'll get one if Rockstar ever releases another red dead redemption game.
Red does get mentioned in them, at least in RDR2, but I don't know if that really counts to what you mean
He is Uncle.
@@silasspeaks3301no he is not
Red Harlow was uncle all along
Wait ain’t this like the guy in the red dead 2 (forgot the name but the guy with the burned hand) in the gang that has kinda same story (tell if it is the same guy)
I played this game a lot actually one of my favorites but that may be my younger self remembering it lmao
You sir are an experted gamer
It's crazy how faithful they stayed to the style of the game as they went on one thing that would have been cool is a few more enemies that had a unique shape and size to them, everyone for the most part in RD2 are average human size I wish they had a couple big brute enemies like in this game
Like the giant you have to fistfight in chapter 2? xD
There's even a few in RDO.
