  • This is called a designer apartment because it's unique compared to others. There are many designer style apartments in Japan. The structure is quite different! I love this place because it feels like a house and it's very affordable! Let's take a tour!

Great plan. I did that in a renovation and it was wonderful! The only drawback was that my apartment did not have a separate room for the toilet. Maybe put that in your dream, too. It's so much nicer to have a separate throne room.

honestly, i love the look and aesthetics, but more than that i love how much you love it! everything looks it's best when someone genuinely enjoys it. it's on my to-do list to move to japan. Evenually.

Yeeessss! I LOVED having a heated drying fan in my shower/bath when I lived in Japan. It's so much more predictable than trying to dry them outside.

I dry my clothes wIth the heater in the bathtub room year-round. Never outside cuz I have airborne allergies ~ year-round pollen gets on clothes. I want a real dryer (not washer/dryer combo). Throw in a gas oven and I’ll be good to go !!

  • @lynda.grace.14

Don't worry about the colour of the kotatsu. One design pitfall people fall into is getting everything too matchy-matchy. If you want to integrate it a little with the other blonde tones, you could get a circular placemat in the floor's tone on which you could place a small plant or fresh flowers or a lovely piece of pottery holding fruit. Another way to handle what you consider a "mistake," is to place another object elsewhere in the room (like a gorgeous poster print or gallery wall on the area under the stairs, a large pot with a plant or a carpet runner in the kitchen space or whatever) in the same tone as the table. Then it will seem intentional.
The island is a perfect addition. Japanese kitchens are the most inconvenient places in which to attempt to cook. Great good luck for you as cabinets are usually limited, too. Wonderful space you have here.

Such a lovely apartment you have. I've been watching a lot of apartment tour videos from Tokyo, mostly luxury apartments that cost an arm and a leg. Those are pretty insane when it comes to size and interior design (most look like hotel rooms and have massive lobbies) . Yours on the other hand feels more homely, like you'd actually want to live there.

This video was amazing. I’d love to see a video breaking down the extra costs, like HOA (if that’s a thing) parking/ bike parking, water, gas, electric. Very curious I plan to move to japan with my partner, and getting a general idea would be so helpful.

Your apartment is really worth the money, and you did great about putting the bed in the loft and having the rest of the room + the other room (even if it's hot and ac doesn't work; at least you can use it when it's not as hot) as work spaces for each of you. \i love how you arranged your apartment.

Our apartment in southern Kanagawa is a little over 90,000en, 2LDK, two levels but it's like 30 years old. We have a small backyard as well. We didn't have AC's, one in the bedroom, and the kitchen, but we need one for the computer/office.
Our fridge is bigger slightly than yours. It's 45L that has a ice maker, next to it is a fast freeze area, a vacuum chill where it takes out all the air to help preserve food, a veggies area on the bottom, the freezer above it, and two doors to our main fridge area on the top.
I miss newer functions and a bigger bathtub. And we have issues with the flooring. So I thought we'd stay here for a very long time but if the floor doesn't get fixed, I want to leave. Kanagawa is great.

How about owning a home down the road? What’s the avg price for homes in the burbs/outskirts of the city?

Japan is the only country I know of where home values go to zero after 20 years even though anything built within 30 years are rock solid. Buy a used house and hire a “rehome “ outfit to fix up the house. Japanese craftsmanship is second to none and the house will be brand new. You’ll save 100s of thousands of dollars.

I love you two, you are such a cute couple. Kelly, you have been independent and inspirational women for son long, you kept saying I and my a lot. I know you didn't mean it; however, keep in mind it's "our" apartment, our this our that. Just an observation, not a criticism. The love you two share is seen throughout your videos.

Question I have for ya is, how much will be getting a house? As mortgage....

I assume the rent is $1200 + $100 per month. Is that correct? I know in America they usually state rent monthly. Here in Australia we usually refer to rent in weekly amounts.

How long of a commute is it from your apartment to a place like Ikebukuro? I need to find an apartment and don’t know if I want to live in central Tokyo...

I could know that it is a universal fact that females really love a "kotatsu warming table". I don't know why yet. 🐈🐆🐱😄

I'm to old for that bathroom...I'd have a stroke figuring out how to use it. Nice place. Take care.
