    It's amazing to see how the spaces you designed keep maturing and evolving. I remember some time ago when you shared your design process for this studio, watching it transform and adapt through the time, I think, reminds us of the beauty of the well-designed spaces and architecture.

    My father was a creative guy, very hip-mod back in the 60s and 70s. I grew up admiring Vignelli's Stendig calendar on the wall of his office. When we bought our 1960s house two years ago, the first thing I did to decorate our little home office was to hang a Stendig. I save and reuse the sheets for gift wrapping paper. A big red bow really pops on them. Great to see others enjoy Vignelli's design as much as our family has.

    Sweet! Well thought out! A really well thought out plan doesn't really come together until one has lived and worked in the space for a few years because it's not that easy to anticipate the needs and what works in an unfamiliar space, and needs and activities do change over the years as well.
    The "inspirational" objects laying around cracked me up, I know exactly what you're talking about!

    I hope you will see this, I have a few questions as as a 15 y/o who want to be an architect
    1.) How do you keep yourself focused so well and not distracted?
    2.) What's a good architecture school/college?
    3.) How do you feel most of the time? Happy? Stressed? Stuck?
    4.) What courses do you recommend taking for college?
    5.) How can I learn more about architecture if I'm searching for a summer job that could make me more educated?

    • @koehlerrock3830
      @koehlerrock3830 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm a Landscape Architecture student, and I can help answer some of your questions.
      1.) Staying focused comes with a good schedule. Find a routine you can work with and stick to it as much as you can. Having a planner helps immensely.
      2.) Architecture programs are pretty common across the world. You probably have a decent college close to you that will warrant good results.
      3.) Can't say for him, but for me, the things I feel most are excitement and stress. In school, you'll undoubtedly have a lot of coursework to work on, but there's always this thrill to add another tool you get to use.
      4.) Architecture and Landscape Architecture are pretty different coursewise, but still carry the same core concepts. I'd recommend talking to a university advisor about what minors you can use to compliment your major.
      5.) I can't accurately answer this because I don't know labor laws where you live, but look for related fields that can help you understand basic aspects of what you are learning about. Maybe a hardware store could be good.

    • @koehlerrock3830
      @koehlerrock3830 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DBK__ I don't know, it normally takes 4 years for a bachelor's (mine will take 5 though). A master's after that is normally 2 years. UIC in Chicago is also legendary for their architecture curriculum and programs, but can be pricey. I'd say you're set for in-state tuition.

    Such elegant and thought-provoking solutions to so many issues! You're really, really good.
    Just one thing you might want to have at the back of your mind. As an old HVAC guy, I cringed just a bit when I saw the calendar go over the minisplit. Cramping the airflow like that is not just bad for temperature uniformity in the space... it's quite risky for the equipment. HVAC systems want and need a load, and if the air goes directly from outlet to inlet of the device without picking up the heating or cooling load in the space... bad things often happen to the equipment. Keep in mind that although these usually have handheld remotes for control.. the actual thermostat is (probably) in the return plenum of the minisplit... NOT in it's handheld remote. (Yes, I know that's misleading and counterintuitive interface design. One could and should expect that the temperature sensor that controls the device is in the remote... but that's not the way most minisplit equipment manufacturers do it (for reasons known only to themselves)).

    Finally a setup not sponsored by grovemade and with some actual personality, plus very tasteful I think!

    Not an architect but I am kind of obsessed with your channel. Such a great aesthetic.

    If you want a mouse with a thumbwheel for horizontal scrolling (and completely customizable buttons for each app), I strongly recommend the MX Master 3. That coupled with a Magic Touchpad 2 is one of my favorite combos for design work.

    I was mesmerised from 00:01 all the way to the final second. Honestly I was just looking for inspiration for my bedroom youtube/art studio and realised that I am looking at another fellow architect/Photographer. Very nicely done!

    I'm Majoring in Software Eng and have done a class on Civil Modelling. Man I loved it so much. I grew up from a design background and seeing your video really changed my mind. I plan to move into Civil. It may not be related to it but It still makes you involve into structure and design.

    Fun to see a fellow architect redo his home office! I had my own practice for 12 years then rejoined large firms to bring in my own markets or expand theirs. Retired 2 yrs ago after working at a horrific unprofessional office in DC. I miss it tremendously.
    Will check out your past posts to see what you've been up to.
