@@Sam-sv6ng Yes there are many Hindu Punjabis in Delhi. I never said that they were rare. I am saying that young Hindu Punjabis in Delhi today who know how to speak Punjabi properly is rare today. Most have switched to Hindi. I know many such people personally. Sikhs in comparison speak more Punjabi mainly because it is their liturgical language and because they feel solely associated with Punjab.

My grandfather was a scholar of Sanskrit and he know Persian as well. He told me that there are similar words between Sanskrit and old Persian as well.
Many words have similar meanings in Turkish and some of them writing similar but means different words, I wanted to notice. In Turkish "kagaz" is "kağıt", "asman" is "asuman", "barabar" is "beraber" but it's little bit different from barabar because it means "together" and "gardan" is "gerdan", "doost" is "dost", "omid" is "ümit", "janevar" is "canavar" but one more little difference here because "canavar" is meaning "monster", "shayd" is "şayet". So in the sentence part I heard a word that means "humanity" from Punjabi side. It's very similar in Turkish, it's "insaniyet".

@@radiant6573 Persian was already used in administration and business, rather than try build up a bureaucracy and economy from scratch, they adopted Persian and its cultural norms, much like many countries like Singapore just continued using English for official and casual use instead of choosing a local language. Persian had many terms and phrases that could readily be understood by Punjabis and others so people just adopted them. Many places used Persian as well such as the Turks/Ottoman Empire, the Abbasid Caliphate, Afghanistan etc so it made sense to join the Persian-educated world. Countries that try to create their own system based on their own language can run into difficulties such as a lack of vocabulary, new terms, categories, genders of words etc Just look at when Malaysia tried to teach math and science in Bahasa Malaysia, it became the fastest backtrack in the world when they reversed it.

"kaghaz" in kurdish is paper too. "Azman" in kurdish is Sky too. "Sabun" exist in Hindi and Kurdish too and means "Soap". "Dost" exist in kurdish and Hindi too and means sth. Like "friend" or "comrade" Damn ALL These words exist in kurdish too.There are thousands of words which are the same. We are all the same root. The Persian style of pronunciation in India comes from Urdu. This has some differences to the way the same word is pronounced in Iran but it can be quite similar. Many Indians make a lot of mistakes in Urdu pronunciations but with a little bit of practice, it's very easy for us.
I swear the potohari dialect is so good. It's so polite. As a Lahori, the first time I went to Islamabad, I was so amazed at how sweet the potohari dialect is.

We use "Mitr". Not "Mitar". It's "Mitr" for friends. The word "waali" is definitely some sort of Arabic loanword on Punjabi, like "waali saabh", in West Punjab. Pure Punjabi has very few Arabic and Persian loanwords. The colloquial forms of Punjabi in the villages would have the purest Punjabi, and they would say "Mitr de naal", "with my friends". It's beyond obvious. There are Persian words that do have cognates in the Punjabi language, but that's because Punjabi and Persian, are both Indo-Iranian languages, it's because they're both Aryan languages. The Indo-Iranians are the Indo-Aryans and the Iranians, in other words, they're the Aryans. That's why.

East of indus river (punjab,sindh,kashmir) was mostly part of hindustan throughout history. yes OCCASIONALLY those regions were controlled by persians, but it was mostly under south asian kingdoms. Amazing video. Farsi was the official government language of India for many hundred years. So many words from Farsi are an integral part of Punjabi. I love the video. Thanks for posting it. I'm a Punjabi but I love the Farsi language. The tenth Master of Sikhs - Guru Gobind Singh ji, wrote a famous composition purely in Farsi. It's called Zafarnama. It was a letter written in poem form, to Aurangzeb, the emperor of India in the early 1700s.

Beautiful to note the similarities between Punjabi and Persian. I am from South India where we speak Tamil, but I can also speak Hindi quite fluently as well as read and write Hindi. I would love to learn to speak Panjabi and Persian / Farsi.

Very interesting to see the similarities between Punjabi and Farsi. The only word I question is "gardan" meaning neck...Gardan is really a Hindi/Urdu word, in Punjabi a neck is called "Tauhn".
A lot of Iranians don't know much about our neighbors Pakistan and India, the interaction I feel is not as much as it should be. I think it's also the same, they don't know a lot about us and our culture. I love these videos because it brings us closer, it lets us learn about each other and become friends and have a more positive outlook and perspective. We share a lot, but we also have our own unique cultures so we can certainly share and always learn more about each other.
Not surprising given that the region (south Asia plus iran) is one of the least integrated regions of the world. People are so divided on the basis of religion and politics that there's not much scope left for people to people interaction which is unfortunate.
Pakistan and India share a border near Baluchistan which is often like a buffer state instead given its own culture. The administrations of both countries are friendly but not very close, as Pakistan is afraid of its Shia population being manipulated by Iran and Iran's uncomfortably close relationship to Afghanistan's west, which has been a problem for Pakistan in the past. The high number of Pakistanis working in the UAE, Saudi and other Gulf states also makes any approach to Pakistan awkward for Iran as all of those states are pretty much anti-Iran.

Before Khomeni's regime occupied Iran, we had very close relations. The Shah even introduced stamps honoring the Pakistani nation, and named a major boulevard after Muhammad Ali Jinnah. For us Sikhs Farsi has a special meaning (than other Indians or Pakistanis) as it was the state language of Punjab for a long time and many Sikjh religious documents are written in Farsi. Armenian has many Persian words. In fact the word Arman is a Persian word and many cities in Armanestan such as Eravan and... Armenians and Iranians are branches from the same tree with different religion. In fact, Armenians used to practice Zoroastrian religion before converting to Christianity. The name Punjab goes back to Sanskrit, yes it’s Persian too but this area has always been referred to the same way, Sanskrit: Sapta Sindhu (land of seven rivers) idk what they counted the other two as Panchnada (land of five rivers) Persian: Punjab (land of five rivers) So it doesn’t come strictly from Persian, it’s just become the modern and most popular way to refer to it now. But throughout history the different names have meant the same thing, even the Greeks called it pentapotamia (land of five rivers) like Mesopotamia with two.
Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Beas, Ravi, Sutlej and Saraswati were together counted as 7 rivers and therefore the name Sapta sindhu. Saraswati obviously dried up around 1900 BCE and then the civilisation in the area declined and people migrated to the north and east from Saraswati basin.
Fun fact: @3:55 Mitra is the name of a deity both in Avestan and in Sanskrit. In Sanskrit and its derivatives it means friend. I believe that Mitra is also the name of girls in Iran. There is a chess player from Iran by Mitra Hejazipour.

As far as I am aware, there was a lot of Persian influence on North Indian languages during the time of Zoroastrianism, so I am not surprised of the close similarities between the two languages. But as a learning Farsi speaker, I accidentally mixed up Gardan with Goldan thinking flowerpot, but I thank you for this video 🙏🏻😎
I think there are two levels of interaction here, first is the similarities persian and Sanskrit share because of their common indo European origins and secondly during mughal era when the mughals considered persian language and culture as 'high culture'. Not sure about interactions during Zoroastrianism.
Gagan Deep well as far as Punjab goes, the influence goes both ways, those coming in were influenced just as much as the ones who were there already. In terms of language it’s whatever the roots of both languages are the same pretty much, but architecture is not Persian or Mughal, it’s what came to be Punjabi/subcontinental design due to amalgam of cultures. Things as basic as the shalwar kameez was adopted by Persians, Mughals, and virtually all of the subcontinent and beyond, and shalwar kameez is a Punjabi dress. So you see it’s not one sided. Idk what you mean by religious practices tho. Both sides should accept influence from each other, not just the Punjabi’s, otherwise that’s arrogance.
It’s actually the other way around old Persian was influenced by Sanskrit during the Vedic age. Sanskrit predates old Persian. Modern Persian influenced a lot of modern day Indian languages after the Islamic conquest of India. But modern Persian has Arabic/ Turkic mix in it. A lot of the similarities you see today are the results of Islamic invasions. Old Persian and Sanskrit is not spoken by Iranians and Indians anymore.
Thanks for sharing Bahadur; you have very interesting videos. Glad to see people from all across the Indo-Iranian/Aryan sphere discussing their languages. However, virtually all these examples were Persian words inherited by Punjabi during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal periods. I wish they would have chosen older Indo-Aryan / Indo-Iranian words for which the languages shared a root, to show the common ancestry of the languages; the only such example here was "dur" which was an old common originated word. It would have made it more interesting to go back into the ancient Sanskrit - Avestan based etymologies. Don't get me wrong, this is not a criticism, just a comment.
Persian is also originated from Sanskrit because place in sanskrit is called sthan and in Persian it is also called stan . But unfortunately our most of old history is under the ground latest several researches shows that indus valley civilization is more earlier than 6k yrs ago and other civilization was also in the parallel in whole subcontinent .

Hence There were many Arabic & Persian words available in Sindhi language already... First due to traders & Sindhi merchants...then due to religious influence... Also Sindhi is the first Non Arabic language that the Holy Q'uran was translated in... So get Ur facts corrected Mr Irani😎👍🤘

The descendants of Avestan today are other Eastern Iranian languages are other Eastern Iranian languages like Pashto,Pamiri,Yaghnobi and Ossetian while the descendant of Old Persian languages are Farsi,Balochi,Kurdish etc. But both Avestan and Old Persian were very similar to Sanskrit!😊😊😊

Amazing to see the similarity in the languages, and being from Amritsar(Punjab, India), enjoyed watching this video, and even enjoyed more how these people from different nations and culture gel so well together when they are on a foreign land. The Punjabi girl is from Pakistan and boy is from India, but but looking at their language, body language and chemistry etc no one can tell them that they are from 2 different nations. The Punjabi girls catch on word 'gardan' - isn't it also called 'gichi', its actually used hilariously at my natively, " teri gichi te rakha jor naal" :). The influence of Persian language on the this whole region has been interesting, and If India and Pakistan would not have been divided it would have really been a whole different "Superpower" in the East all together, Curse the Britishers. I wish someday in future the people of India and Pakistan can be free from this burden and meet greet each others family and recall fond memories of their true brotherhood.
Why would India and Pakistan be united? Rather they should be divided again into many nations like rest of the world. All world countries are divided on linguistic bases. Languages is the base of a Qaum. All the Christian and Muslims countries are divided on linguistic bases. India and Pakistan are formed on religious bases.

There would have been many countries based on the various rulers, like Punjab, Rajputana, Maratha, Gwalior, you can check there were 100+ rulers of various princely states, just the Punjab region had around 19 rulers 🙃 But fate has something else, and thanks to "Loh Purush" Sardar Patel, India became one and turned out to be power to recon with. Otherwise we would have been living in tiny countries who had no power of its own and dependent on others for protection and other necessities. Look at countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, even Pakistan(no offense) etc, they may call themselves free/independent but the whole world knows their situation. Further we cannot really compare to Europe since, those countries leveraged the early advantage in the race of industrial revolution and now have formed an alliance so called European Union. Sadly no such union have been formed in Asia, due to many reasons, one of them is most of the countries are developing and they could not think beyond their own problems, let alone helping each other. And I politely and humbly disagree with you, India and Pakistan was not really formed of religious basis, only Pakistan was, and the actual basis of division was political, it was just made to look like religious based partition. Lastly, I never said that India and Pakistan be united, You can reread my comment, all I wish is that since the people of this region are so similar in culture, so there should be alliance just like European countries and there should be freedom of expression and meet greet among the people of the region. In vedas which are in Sanskrit we get reference of SaptSindhu means land of 7 rivers. After that in Charak Samita the most renowned literature of Ayurvedic medicine, there is reference of PANCH-NADY Pardesh meaning Land of Five rivers. We had great relationship with western land according to Ayurveda literature. Eventually persians started calling our land as Punjab - land of five rivers. Our languages grew almost simultaneously. Sad thing is that now hatred and selfishness has divided us all. I hope a day will come when humanity will overcome all this.

Many words have similar meanings in Turkish and some of them writing similar but means different words, I wanted to notice. In Turkish "kagaz" is "kağıt", "asman" is "asuman", "barabar" is "beraber" but it's little bit different from barabar because it means "together" and "gardan" is "gerdan", "doost" is "dost", "omid" is "ümit", "janevar" is "canavar" but one more little difference here because "canavar" is meaning "monster", "shayd" is "şayet". So in the sentence part I heard a word that means "humanity" from Punjabi side. It's very similar in Turkish, it's "insaniyet".

Persian had many terms and phrases that could readily be understood by Punjabis and others so people just adopted them. Many places used Persian as well such as the Turks/Ottoman Empire, the Abbasid Caliphate, Afghanistan etc so it made sense to join the Persian-educated world.
Countries that try to create their own system based on their own language can run into difficulties such as a lack of vocabulary, new terms, categories, genders of words etc Just look at when Malaysia tried to teach math and science in Bahasa Malaysia, it became the fastest backtrack in the world when they reversed it.

The Persian style of pronunciation in India comes from Urdu. This has some differences to the way the same word is pronounced in Iran but it can be quite similar.
Many Indians make a lot of mistakes in Urdu pronunciations but with a little bit of practice, it's very easy for us.

We use "Mitr". Not "Mitar". It's "Mitr" for friends.
The word "waali" is definitely some sort of Arabic loanword on Punjabi, like "waali saabh", in West Punjab. Pure Punjabi has very few Arabic and Persian loanwords. The colloquial forms of Punjabi in the villages would have the purest Punjabi, and they would say "Mitr de naal", "with my friends". It's beyond obvious.
There are Persian words that do have cognates in the Punjabi language, but that's because Punjabi and Persian, are both Indo-Iranian languages, it's because they're both Aryan languages. The Indo-Iranians are the Indo-Aryans and the Iranians, in other words, they're the Aryans. That's why.

I'm a Punjabi but I love the Farsi language. The tenth Master of Sikhs - Guru Gobind Singh ji, wrote a famous composition purely in Farsi. It's called Zafarnama. A lot of Iranians don't know much about our neighbors Pakistan and India, the interaction I feel is not as much as it should be. I think it's also the same, they don't know a lot about us and our culture. I love these videos because it brings us closer, it lets us learn about each other and become friends and have a more positive outlook and perspective. We share a lot, but we also have our own unique cultures so we can certainly share and always learn more about each other.

Not surprising given that the region (south Asia plus iran) is one of the least integrated regions of the world. People are so divided on the basis of religion and politics that there's not much scope left for people to people interaction which is unfortunate.
Pakistan and India share a border near Baluchistan which is often like a buffer state instead given its own culture. The administrations of both countries are friendly but not very close, as Pakistan is afraid of its Shia population being manipulated by Iran and Iran's uncomfortably close relationship to Afghanistan's west, which has been a problem for Pakistan in the past. The high number of Pakistanis working in the UAE, Saudi and other Gulf states also makes any approach to Pakistan awkward for Iran as all of those states are pretty much anti-Iran.

For us Sikhs Farsi has a special meaning (than other Indians or Pakistanis) as it was the state language of Punjab for a long time and many Sikjh religious documents are written in Farsi. The name Punjab goes back to Sanskrit, yes it’s Persian too but this area has always been referred to the same way,
Sanskrit: Sapta Sindhu (land of seven rivers) idk what they counted the other two as
Panchnada (land of five rivers)
Persian: Punjab (land of five rivers)
So it doesn’t come strictly from Persian, it’s just become the modern and most popular way to refer to it now. But throughout history the different names have meant the same thing, even the Greeks called it pentapotamia (land of five rivers) like Mesopotamia with two.
Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Beas, Ravi, Sutlej and Saraswati were together counted as 7 rivers and therefore the name Sapta sindhu. Saraswati obviously dried up around 1900 BCE and then the civilisation in the area declined and people migrated to the north and east from Saraswati basin.

As far as I am aware, there was a lot of Persian influence on North Indian languages during the time of Zoroastrianism, so I am not surprised of the close similarities between the two languages.
But as a learning Farsi speaker, I accidentally mixed up Gardan with Goldan thinking flowerpot, but I thank you for this video 🙏🏻😎
I think there are two levels of interaction here, first is the similarities persian and Sanskrit share because of their common indo European origins and secondly during mughal era when the mughals considered persian language and culture as 'high culture'. Not sure about interactions during Zoroastrianism.

Gagan Deep well as far as Punjab goes, the influence goes both ways, those coming in were influenced just as much as the ones who were there already. In terms of language it’s whatever the roots of both languages are the same pretty much, but architecture is not Persian or Mughal, it’s what came to be Punjabi/subcontinental design due to amalgam of cultures. Things as basic as the shalwar kameez was adopted by Persians, Mughals, and virtually all of the subcontinent and beyond, and shalwar kameez is a Punjabi dress. So you see it’s not one sided. Idk what you mean by religious practices tho. Both sides should accept influence from each other, not just the Punjabi’s, otherwise that’s arrogance.
It’s actually the other way around old Persian was influenced by Sanskrit during the Vedic age. Sanskrit predates old Persian. Modern Persian influenced a lot of modern day Indian languages after the Islamic conquest of India. But modern Persian has Arabic/ Turkic mix in it. A lot of the similarities you see today are the results of Islamic invasions. Old Persian and Sanskrit is not spoken by Iranians and Indians anymore.

Thanks for sharing Bahadur; you have very interesting videos. Glad to see people from all across the Indo-Iranian/Aryan sphere discussing their languages. However, virtually all these examples were Persian words inherited by Punjabi during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal periods. I wish they would have chosen older Indo-Aryan / Indo-Iranian words for which the languages shared a root, to show the common ancestry of the languages; the only such example here was "dur" which was an old common originated word. It would have made it more interesting to go back into the ancient Sanskrit - Avestan based etymologies. Don't get me wrong, this is not a criticism, just a comment.

Avestan is much older than Old Persian and is an Eastern Iranian language while Old Persian is a Western Iranian language.
The descendants of Avestan today are other Eastern Iranian languages are other Eastern Iranian languages like Pashto,Pamiri,Yaghnobi and Ossetian while the descendant of Old Persian languages are Farsi,Balochi,Kurdish etc.
But both Avestan and Old Persian were very similar to Sanskrit!😊😊😊

Amazing to see the similarity in the languages, and being from Amritsar(Punjab, India), enjoyed watching this video, and even enjoyed more how these people from different nations and culture gel so well together when they are on a foreign land.
The Punjabi girl is from Pakistan and boy is from India, but but looking at their language, body language and chemistry etc no one can tell them that they are from 2 different nations.
The Punjabi girls catch on word 'gardan' - isn't it also called 'gichi', its actually used hilariously at my natively, " teri gichi te rakha jor naal" :).
The influence of Persian language on the this whole region has been interesting, and If India and Pakistan would not have been divided it would have really been a whole different "Superpower" in the East all together, Curse the Britishers. I wish someday in future the people of India and Pakistan can be free from this burden and meet greet each others family and recall fond memories of their true brotherhood.
Why would India and Pakistan be united? Rather they should be divided again into many nations like rest of the world. All world countries are divided on linguistic bases. Languages is the base of a Qaum. All the Christian and Muslims countries are divided on linguistic bases. India and Pakistan are formed on religious bases.

Otherwise we would have been living in tiny countries who had no power of its own and dependent on others for protection and other necessities. Look at countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, even Pakistan(no offense) etc, they may call themselves free/independent but the whole world knows their situation. Further we cannot really compare to Europe since, those countries leveraged the early advantage in the race of industrial revolution and now have formed an alliance so called European Union. Sadly no such union have been formed in Asia, due to many reasons, one of them is most of the countries are developing and they could not think beyond their own problems, let alone helping each other.
And I politely and humbly disagree with you, India and Pakistan was not really formed of religious basis, only Pakistan was, and the actual basis of division was political, it was just made to look like religious based partition.
Lastly, I never said that India and Pakistan be united, You can reread my comment, all I wish is that since the people of this region are so similar in culture, so there should be alliance just like European countries and there should be freedom of expression and meet greet among the people of the region.

After that in Charak Samita the most renowned literature of Ayurvedic medicine, there is reference of PANCH-NADY Pardesh meaning Land of Five rivers.
We had great relationship with western land according to Ayurveda literature.
Eventually persians started calling our land as Punjab - land of five rivers.
Our languages grew almost simultaneously. Sad thing is that now hatred and selfishness has divided us all. I hope a day will come when humanity will overcome all this.
The actual word in Teth Punjabi for animal is Janaur we now use Jaanvar due to the influence of Hindustani language.
