How come the vinyl doesn't show imperfections of the surface beneath; the peeling base on trim for example or stone chips. Because it's super thick? I was under the impression surface must be as smooth as it has to be for paint.

Feel really panic for my new RX7 FD wide bodykit because I exactly don’t wanna pay for painting, so I just trynna wrap them myself. The problem is they say I can’t wrap on unpainted FRP cuz the surface of it is not smooth. However I have seen couple of videos about people wrap on their bodykit without painting... I really need some help. Hopefully I can get some ideas from you! Peace:)

Bodywork is never part of the deal. I only do it as a favor sometimes. They need to get their bodywork right first

You can wrap anything that is smooth, just sand it then test some wrap on it to see if it sticks and it good. ParadoxStyling.com for materials
